Currently giving #Miniflux a try as possible replacement for feedbin. Don't get me wrong! Feedbin is great but it's time to move certain things to self-hosted solutions.

#Miniflux server that a friend hosts, combined with #Newsboat on the terminal and #CapyReader on Android.
Oh, and the web interface itself is great. Very basic/brutalistic and fast.

I plugged it into #miniflux, and it found a bunch. Try some of these:

@RareBird15 I use #Miniflux: https://miniflux.app. It's a web based fully accessible reader, it can be self-hosted, or you can pay $15 (14 euro) a year to use the instance the developer maintains, or you can use, for example, use some free Miniflux instance (Tweesecake used to have one but now it's not working for some reason). As for managing feeds, I categorize them. I also add podcasts because I don't like listening to podcasts in dedicated apps, I need my file that I post-process (increase speed, sometimes cut off intros-outros, sometimes raise volume).

The New York/California Post “Metro Section” RSS Feed
The New York Post Metro secution RSS feed now includes California Post articles. This was not concerning until I saw an ambiguous article about a new U.S. HQ for the maker of “Labubus”

good article by Cory Doctorow ( @pluralistic ) on using #RSS and generally making the web bearable (with some historical context)
https://pluralistic.net/2026/03/07/reader-mode/
(And I indeed read Doctorow's blog post on using RSS via my rss backend #Miniflux, using the wonderful Capyreader app (@_jocmp ) as the frontends on Android/GrapheneOS - and indeed on a black background with white text in a pleasant font (Vollkorn - http://vollkorn-typeface.com/ - one of Capyreader's built in options).

I played around some, and I think what could work for me for working with #RSS is saved searches.
- #NewsBlur does that pretty well, but it's a huge beast, and LLM-flavoured
- #miniflux doesn't do them at all (you can add external things that will do that for you, I guess)
- #FreshRSS does that pretty well, but is annoying to get it to download full articles, PHP leaves me with a bit of distaste, and authentication is weird/meh (apparently they mostly use Apache for it). -
I like #RSS. I have a lot of feeds. I'm interested only in *some* of the content they publish. I'm looking for a decent way to look at them.
Unfortunately most things I found either outright use LLMs for sorting/grouping, or are created using such.
#NewsBlur somewhat works for me with its filters and groups, and #miniflux https://github.com/eleith/miniflux-digest might.Anyone knows of other options? #selfhosted or local app. Ideally not "to email", but might work too.

e fixen ben!! :festasloth: porque despois deille a ver as novidades :rssblobcattoma: e vin o titular nunha canle:
Matthew Remski: “El yoga puede ser una puerta de entrada a políticas protofascistas”
a verdade, mandei todo á merda. Non lin a argumentación (nin entrei no artigo) e dame igual.
A culpa é miña :pats: , tamén cho digo.

Here's a #TapestryApp connector that hooks up #Miniflux (a minimalist RSS reader) to your Tapestry timeline.
I'm using it for my own stuff, but feel free to give it a spin and use it! 😉

Inspired by tonight's Homebrew Website Club, set up Miniflux on NixOS as an RSS reader. The grieving period for Google Reader, which was a questionable choice even before its demise, has officially concluded. Better a decade late than never.
-
While I'll admit this is somewhat self serving, I do believe that web apps rather than "native" apps remain the best path forward for most things, also on mobile.
The web remains the only platform that is not (entirely) controlled by #BigTech. There's no approval process. Web apps cannot (easily) be pulled. Whoever builds them is in full control of their distribution. There's no tax on "in app" purchases. Yes, the browser landscape is not as diverse as it ought to be and hopefully that will improve, but if you compare it to Apple and Google-controlled ecosystems like iOS and Android, it's still miles ahead. Also, they're way cheaper to build.
In 2026 I'm aiming to be more deliberate in filling up my dock and home screen (yes, I will likely stay on Apple operating systems for pragmatic reasons) with more and more web apps, replacing native apps. I think this doable now. OS support for PWAs has improved a lot (even on iOS). They can be icons on your home screen/dock, they can be fast, they can be offline capable, they can send notifications.
On my home screen right now some daily driver #PWAs: @silverbulletmd (notes), @phanpy (fediverse), #Miniflux (RSS reading), Voyager (Lenny and PieSocial client), @linkwarden (link collection), @homeassistant (still the native app, but 99% web tech), #Ghost (blogging), @plausible (analytics). #Feishin (@navidrome_releases streaming), @fastmail (email).

@psarant I've been playing around with #newsblur, but it's a beast to self-host, and I've gotten annoyed with it.
I'm playing some with #MiniFlux, with some alternative frontends it's pretty nice, and fetching full articles works pretty well, but "automatically mark those articles in this feed as read" requires external component, or setting such to be excluded from fetched feed completely.
On the other hand, from what I've seen with #FreshRSS fetching full articles takes much more effort. -
I think I'm getting annoyed enough with the #SelfHosted #newsblur that it's time to look into switching over to #miniflux for my #RSS needs.

Just found Capy Reader by @_jocmp and will try to use it with Miniflux (which is also new to me) 😊
I've been using TinyTinyRSS for the past > 10 years and it has served me greatly, but there have been questionable persons in the project and apart from that it was recently announced that TinyTinyRSS will not be maintained anymore.
I'm tired of hosting PHP applications. That's why Miniflux raised my interest.

📰 Konec éry Tiny Tiny RSS
Autor projektu oznámil, že 1. listopadu 2025 vypne celou infrastrukturu TTRSS – web, Git, fórum i svou veřejnou instanci.

Na Oscloudu ale panika není potřeba 😉
Máme v záloze FreshRSS, která TTRSS nahradí,
a už teď můžete používat i Miniflux – moderní a jednoduchou RSS čtečku.#rss #opensource #selfhosting #ttrss #freshrss #miniflux #oscloud

I wrote a #note about adding similarity based sorting in #Miniflux #feedReader: https://abhinavsarkar.net/notes/2025-miniflux-similar-sorting/
-
Wrote some JavaScript code to customize #Miniflux #feedReader to automatically sort articles by similarity. Now I can read similar articles one after another easily.
Edit: I wrote a note about this: https://abhinavsarkar.net/notes/2025-miniflux-similar-sorting/

Beautifully so! Also #dillo and #miniflux!
I wasn't able to get #brutaldon working, though. It does work with #Netsurf, however.

https://social.emucafe.org/naferrell/debloating-fire-tablet-08-29-25/
I read about the Fire Toolbox utility for “debloating” and customizing Amazon Fire Tablets. That inspired me to buy a cheap ($35-40) Fiire 11 tablet from 2021 on Woot back in April or May. I finally got around to using it. Unfortunately, because of updates, some of the Toolbox’s utilities like setting a custom launcher do not work reliably. But I managed to remove a decent amount of Amazon bloat and telemetry. My goal is to set it up as a device for reading articles from my Miniflux instance as an alternative to my phone. Here are my initial key steps:
- Used Fire Toolbox to sideload F-Droid Basic
- Installed Iron Fox (web browser), Markor (markdown editor), Frigolio (Wallabag client), KDE Connect, and Syncthing
- I configured Iron Fox to my liking and imported the uBlock Origin rules I use on my phone
- I logged into Miniflux on Iron Fox (synced my clipboard with KDE Connect to get my passwords
- I synced my Markor directory from my phone to my Fire so I could save links from my browser for my newsletter workflow
- Connected Frigolio to my Wallabag server by sharing clipboard with API key and login information from my computer via KDE Connect
I gave everything a test run in the morning and it worked well. Fire tablets have low-end specs, but Iron Fox felt about as snappy on the tablet as it does on my phone (Google Pixel 6a running GrapheneOS). One potential annoyance is that when I woke my tablet up (I had set it up last night), I was presented with a screen trying to get me to log into an Amazon account. I was prompted to finally set this up because I was being tempted by a $250 sale on Google Pixel Tablets (which are supported by GrapheneOS), but if the Fire works well for my limited Miniflux purpose, I think I will opt to save the $250.

https://social.emucafe.org/naferrell/hacker-news-ai-volume-08-17-25/
In what appears to be his first post on a new blog, Zach Perkel tackles when, precisely, AI took over Hacker News. I subscribe to an feed of Hacker News page one articles. The sheer volume of AI-related submissions is bleak, almost as bleak as whatever happened to page one subsequent to the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election. There may now be more AI posts than references to Kagi (if you know, you know). I have applied Miniflux filters to block much of what I consider to be the noise. That has significantly reduced the number of items in the feed. At some point I may think about using Hacker News RSS to create a more curated feed, more likely to yield articles of interest to me. Did I just give myself a new article topic?
