Il y a peu moins d'un an, le livre "Déborder Bolloré" sortait en librairie. Quelques semaines plus tard, on publiait le livre aussi sur le site https://deborderbollore.fr.
C'était important pour nous que ces textes soient inconditionnellement accessibles, et qu'ils existent donc sous différents formats (web, #EPUB, #PDF)

- Don't need colour, but it's a plus.

So a fun little factoid for today... I used @kiwix to grab several sets of books from @gutenberg_org today.
What I didn't expect was for them to contain both the #HTML and #ePub versions of the books. But, beyond that surprise was an even better surprise:
When I tried to open an ePub book, Calibre was set as the handler for ePubs (makes sense), and automatically imported the book into my library (that's the surprise), instead of just opening the file.
That's a really nice set of interactions, that makes it easy to add some new books to my library. Only thing that would make it better is if the Gutenberg Kiwix Indexes had an option to sort by author.

Tried looking this up but got contradictory advice. Is there some specific technical reason not to use <br /> tags in an EPUB file? Is <p></p> always the better option?

O Windows demorou, mas recentemente finalmente adotou markdown (.md) como um tipo de arquivo de texto normal, não como "coisa de ráquer que entende dos blamber vou mandar um vírus e roubar sua senha".
Agora, espero que o Android faça o mesmo.
Agora, espero que Windows e Android também aceitem epub. Eu mando epub para minhas colegas leigas, elas acham que é vírus porque o aparelho não faz a mínima ideia de como abrir (mesmo no Android, que tem Google Livros).

2026 e o Google Drive ainda não é vinculado ao Google Livros, para ficar ainda mais fácil abrir epub.
Atualmente, preciso abrir o Google Livros e selecionar o epub nele. Se eu clicar no epub dentro do Google Drive, não tem a opção de abrir no Google Livros.
Mandei um feedback lá agora. Talvez alguém veja.

Still improving my xteink x4 ebook reader setup, setup a komga ebook media server docker and connected it with the XTEINK reader to sync ebooks.

I love #epub I just wish they were easier to manage. For example, it's difficult to obtain an EPUB for a lot of my books and it's difficult to get highlights and annotations show up in, for example, both #Emacs and a mobile EPUB reader, or even from one mobile EPUB reader to another.
As a result, I use #pdf s most of the time. Things like annotations and highlights get embedded in the document natively, and show up everywhere. Puts the "P" in "Portable Document Format"

In other news, anybody know how I preserve the hyperlinks for endnotes when converting from docx to epub?
(I'm doing the conversion via Draft2Digital, if that matters.)I'm trying to fix this for the 2nd edition of APPETITE FOR ANTITHESIS. I've been fighting with it for days now, and no online FAQs or forum posts have gotten me anywhere.
Help me, Fedi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope.

PP (Post-Processing) ~
While processing old books into epub, the aim is not to modernise the text.
Easier said than done.
Keep oldy-worldy word spelling, naturally. If such word appears a few times in the book, no brainer. Now if it appears only once, a bit less obvious.

Amazon now lets you download some Kindle books as DRM-free EPUBs. A step forward -- but once you start reading EPUBs, you notice how much quality varies between editions.
Proper typography, consistent formatting, good metadata. These things matter more than you'd think.
