#WritersCoffeeClub September 5: “Do you track your word count? How? Why?”

Yes, via #Calibre , using the EPUB version of the manuscripts.

I find it useful to determine how large the word count of my "Master Volume" is - the collection of all the German folk tales I have translated so far (currently, it's at 723,482 words). For my book manuscripts, the word count gives a useful gauge how long they will be in comparison to my previous books.

Time for a Come to Jeebus moment: I will never get along with #calibre ebook management.

It's an incredible, capable, venerable piece of software, and my partially blind ass just continuously gets gut punched by its interface hard and often enough that I spent a chunk of this evening picking apart the broken bits of 5 separate Calibre libraries I've tried to maintain over time. All failed.

So, I now have a sanely curated set of named folders on my NAS for ebooks:

Ich überlege mir einen e-book reader zu kaufen.
Ich weiß kindl ist ungeil aber was nimmt man stattdessen?

Ich hätte gerne etwas das funktioniert und wo ich e-books von überall her drauf nutzen kann.

Ich habe zb einen Calibre-Webserver.

Seit meiner Teenagerzeit lese ich fast gar nicht mehr und würde das gerne ändern.

Cool wäre vllt wenn es einen Sync zum Hörbuch (Audiobookshelf) gäbe?!

Just migrated this #Mastodon server's #DockerCompose setup from #DockerDesktop to #Colima. (Also migrated #CalibreWeb.) On an 8 GB RAM M2 #Mac mini with 8 cores, you need all the memory and CPU savings you can get.

Got Melissa and I onto #calibreweb for our #kobo readers. I wrote a CLI tool to manipulate the #calibre and #calibreweb databases so I could automate things, but once that was done it was pretty straightforward to get the readers syncing with their native sync method.

I'm hesitant to expose plain HTTP outside the house, and Kobo seems to force HTTP for at least cover downloads, so for now they only sync when at home. Not a huge problem, but not ideal.

J'ai enfin installé Calibre-Web sur mon NAS et j'ai configuré ma liseuse Kobo pour qu'elle se synchronise avec. Maintenant, je peux ajouter des livres sur ma liseuse depuis n'importe où en les ajoutant juste à Calibre dans l'étagère Kobo-Calibre et en lançant une synchronisation.

Наверное, у каждого рано или поздно возникает вопрос: как упорядочить хаос с купленными (да, мы же против пиратства?) книгами в форматах PDF, DJVU и других , так чтобы: - получить к ним доступ как с мобильного устройства, так и с любимого ПК или Mac; - сохранять прогресс чтения между устройствами; - не терять книги в куче папок. Хочу поделиться решением, которое помогло мне организовать библиотеку.
