Ich finde #Calibre ist eine schreckliche Software, aber leider schafft es #Audiobookshelf nicht, bei meinem Büchern den Fortschritt richtig zu speichern. Also schweren Herzens wieder zurück. 😞

Ich überlege mir einen e-book reader zu kaufen.
Ich weiß kindl ist ungeil aber was nimmt man stattdessen?Ich hätte gerne etwas das funktioniert und wo ich e-books von überall her drauf nutzen kann.
Ich habe zb einen Calibre-Webserver.
Seit meiner Teenagerzeit lese ich fast gar nicht mehr und würde das gerne ändern.
Cool wäre vllt wenn es einen Sync zum Hörbuch (Audiobookshelf) gäbe?!

I use Wallabag to save articles to read later, typically on my phone when I find spare moments. It works well, but it's not the most pleasant experience reading long-form on a phone.
After seeing a post from @benbrown showing his xteink e-reader, I picked one up hoping I could somehow use it to read my Wallabag saves. Turns out Calibre can subscribe to the "undread" RSS feed Wallabag exposes, and export them to the device.
Much better, I love this little thing!

Amazon zmusza do wymiany czytników. Miliony sprawnych urządzeń straci wsparcie
Gigant e-commerce postanowił zrobić wielkie porządki w swoim ekosystemie, co natychmiast wywołało słuszne oburzenie wśród najwierniejszych użytkowników.
Od 20 maja 2026 roku Amazon oficjalnie przestanie wspierać swoje starsze czytniki e-booków. Ta decyzja to bolesny dowód na to, że w erze cyfrowej nigdy nie posiadamy sprzętu na własność – jesteśmy jedynie uzależnieni od łaski jego producenta.
Zmiany uderzają w posiadaczy urządzeń wprowadzonych na rynek w 2012 roku i wcześniej. Firma poinformowała w oficjalnych mailach, że po 20 maja nie będzie można na nich kupować, wypożyczać ani pobierać nowych tytułów bezpośrednio z wbudowanego sklepu. Owszem, to bardzo stary sprzęt, ale mówimy o czytnikach e-booków, czyli urządzeniach. które – o ile wciąż działają – z powodzeniem mogłyby jeszcze posłużyć.
Rzecznik korporacji tłumaczy ten ruch względami bezpieczeństwa oraz tym, że starzejące się maszyny nie są w stanie obsłużyć nowych, bardziej wymagających usług. Brzmi to jednak jak wyjątkowo słaba wymówka. Mówimy przecież o sprzęcie, którego jedynym i podstawowym zadaniem jest wyświetlanie statycznego tekstu na ekranie ze znikomym użyciem energii. Czytelnicy słusznie punktują w sieci, że prosty czytnik to nie jest najnowszy smartfon i nie potrzebuje potężnych aktualizacji oprogramowania, by po prostu działać.
Ekologia schodzi na dalszy plan
Z biznesowego punktu widzenia ruch Amazona jest twardy i bezlitosny. Producent chce zmusić klientów do przesiadki na nowsze modele, w ramach „rekompensaty” kusząc ich specjalnymi zniżkami na nowy sprzęt. To zjawisko obnaża jednak potężną hipokryzję branży technologicznej. Zamiast pozwolić świetnie działającym urządzeniom spokojnie dożyć swoich dni i chwalić się ich legendarną trwałością, korporacja stosuje klasyczne, programowe postarzanie produktu.
Swoją drogą „miliony” w tytule niniejszej wiadomości to nie clickbait, lecz rynkowy fakt. Dotychczas Amazon sprzedał na całym świecie około 90 milionów czytników Kindle. Z samych przecieków z firmy wynika, że zmiana dotknie „zaledwie” 3% obecnych, aktywnych użytkowników, których całkowitą bazę szacuje się dziś na niemal 66 milionów. Prosta matematyka nie kłamie i pokazuje jasno – na naszych oczach około 2 milionów sprawnych urządzeń zostaje pozbawionych wsparcia. Ale co tam, pal licho ekologię i niepotrzebne elektrośmieci, liczy się wyłącznie sprzedaż nowych modeli.
Jak uratować swój stary sprzęt?
Na szczęście dla zdeterminowanych użytkowników, starsze modele nie staną się z dnia na dzień martwymi przyciskami do papieru. Wymaga to jednak zmiany przyzwyczajeń i przestrzegania jednej, absolutnie żelaznej zasady: nie wolno przywracać czytnika do ustawień fabrycznych ani wylogowywać z obecnego konta. Taki ruch po 20 maja trwale zablokuje możliwość jego ponownej rejestracji, czyniąc urządzenie całkowicie bezużytecznym.
Aby nadal z nich korzystać, wystarczy:
- Zostawić na urządzeniu książki, które zostały pobrane przed upływem terminu wsparcia.
- Przesyłać nowe pliki ręcznie, podłączając sprzęt do komputera za pomocą tradycyjnego kabla USB.
- Korzystać z zewnętrznych, darmowych programów do zarządzania biblioteką (takich jak niezawodne Calibre), które świetnie radzą sobie z formatowaniem plików na starsze urządzenia.

Wie gut, dass ich mir alle E-Books, die ich mir bei Amazon mal gekauft habe, bereits heruntergeladen habe und lokal in Calibre abgespeichert habe. Ich kann mir die dann auf ein beliebiges anderes Gerät speichern. Neue E-Books werde ich mir dann bei Amazon wohl nicht mehr kaufen. Dann hab ich gleich wieder was, dass ich auf den nächsten #DID anrechnen kann. 🤩 #DUTgemacht

This has (re)opened a can of worms for me over digital book management. Having owned over the years a kindle and now a kobo. Calibre does a good job making ACSM books I’ve purchased available to me on my computer. It’ll be fun optimising them for the #xteinkx4

71 hours later and my NFS cloned itself to an encrypted external drive.. I shrunk it down to 5.2TB before the clone but this external drive is slow 😭 I've been playing with #FreeBSD lately and want to be ready in case I decide to cut the NFS over from #Debian
I migrated a bunch of my #homelab services ( #AdGuard #Calibre #nginx and #Plex ) to FreeBSD running on scrap hardware and spinning disks I had over the weekend, the performance blew me away!

Welp.. Looks like I can scratch "try Booklore as a Calibre replacement" off my to-do list.
It appears that Booklore just got added to the "vibe-coding dev nuked their app after the Internet came 'a-pitchforkin" list...
EDIT: Looks like the GitHub repo is actually still there (for now?). They just nuked their Discord for the project.
