So I decided to create a self hosted search engine on my NAS. Turns out its not as difficult as you might think.
I also get to opt out of who I use in my search engine. And best of all I own my own data.So what do we think? I'll just keep it private of course on my internal network. I'll access it via tail-scale remotely.

Being able to block sites (almost all of which dominate top results on #Google, because Google is no longer a search engine but a slop dispenser) is indeed very gratifying. I moved to a self hosted #SearXNG a long time ago, though.

La instalación de Pangolin en #VPS ha sido muy fácil, pero no ha sido trivial la migración de los subdominios, aunque una vez entendida la mecánica y un poco de paciencia a la hora de que se refresquen los DNS, he podido hacer que todo funcionara (#SearXNG, #WordPress, #Mastodon, #Matomo, #Nextcloud, #Wikijs, #Vaultwarden, #Excalidraw, #DrawIO, #Umami y #Mealie).

2nd playthrough was back in August 2023. I used a 13 year old laptop (now 16) as a dedicated streaming machine because I was also running PiHole, OPNsense and also SearXNG, Libreddit (which is replaced by redlib), and Invidious on the same gaming rig, still with same specs, all of it in a vm.
I was still finding a suitable, reasonably powered device to run them all but yeah. Times were hard, kinda.
