I'd been using my instance as a PWA (inasmuch as PWAs are supported on iOS) and found it to be ok but not terribly satisfying. I appreciated the existing clients, but didn't love them. I'd tried them all, but ended up generally using a Safari extension and the web...

Ich nutze seit einiger Zeit https://linkding.link. Ein feiner Bookmark Manager mit einigen guten Extras.

Nachdem es einige Updates gab probiere ich auch mal https://readeck.org/en/ aus.

Schon jetzt kann ich sagen, dass die Sicherung von Seiten als HTML Seite und die Verbindung mit https://www.getsinglefile.com für mich sehr für #LinkDing spricht.

Aber auch #Readeck hat so seine Features.

Ich probiere es mal parallel weiter. Wechseln werde ich wohl nicht, aber vielleicht beide nutzen.

I'm starting to share links I found on the Internet and have stored in my #linkding instance to my Fediverse account. For that I'll use the #linkdump hashtag.

I use #Linkding a lot, but it's a bit frustrating that it doesn't have an #Emacs interface. I already wrote a few Emacs Lisp functions about a year ago to add URLs from Emacs and now I also added some additional functions for opening a bookmark in my browser of choice or EWW (which is ideal for many personal blogs). 2025 self-hosting wrapped

Let’s review which self-hosting service really worked for me in 2025.

I rarely talk about the one that just work. That’s the problem with good work … if something just works, and doesn’t bother you… you tend to forget about it even exists because using it is more a habit than an effort.

Paperless NGX

My almost daily work horse is Paperless NGX. It’s my default for all documents. My local printer-scanner has the Paperless Inbox set as default scanning target. All incoming snail mail that is worth archiving get’s scanned and sent to Paperless.

Paperless does the tagging automatically (with local machine learning models). Sometimes I have to correct a correspondent or a tag. But mostly it get’s it right.

Immich

This is my Google Photos replacement. A client on my iPhone constantly backs up my photos to my self-hosted Immich instance. It archives and indexes the photos (also with local machine learning models) so that I can search for faces and other objects.

NextCloud

My document sync backend. Mostly using it share files between devices and host contacts. Not using any fancy features or plugins. Really just for file sharing.

Occasionally sharing files with 3rd parties via temporary links.

My Joplin notes and OmniFocus files are synced via the NextCloud WebDAV interface.

Mastodon

Of course… one of the most widespread Fediverse software out there.

LinkDing

Hosting my own Bookmark service for years. Using the robust Links software for this.

BookWyrm

Another Fediverse service. This one around sharing books one has read or wants to read including reviews and quotes. Very lovely developer with great support for his community.

Wallabag

Wanna read an article later in a distraction free interface? Use Wallabag!

FreshRSS

This is my default RSS-Reader. Rock solid, self-hosted RSS fetcher.

Forgejo

Quitely serving all my public & private git repos. Simple, elegant, robust. Don’t need more

Peertube

being able to host your own video streaming to embed videos in various websites … awesome. And it’s also able to fetch and archive videos from various sources (online mediatheks, YouTube etc.)

WordPress

Of course WordPress … this is what you’re currently reading. And with the ActivityPub Plugin it’s even part of the fediverse.

Pixelfed

The Instagram alternative in the Fediverse. There is a bit of a love/hate relationship with this. It works. But there is not really much development going on for the self-hosted version… despite the buzz around it.

linkding is one of my favorite applications that I self-host and the place where I save everything I want to read later. The catch being that what little time I can dedicate to actually reading is spent on books. What I do have is time where I can listen to things while doing chores around the house, out on walks or otherwise engaged...

Spent way too long finally learning #Elixir #Livebook techniques to do some data processing. I wanted to upload all my old bookmarks, with some munging from two different sources and cleaning, to my #selfhosted #Linkding instance at https://links.odaeus.eu/.

Ended up writing out a Netscape bookmarks format file to upload as the direct API doesn't support setting the created date, which would be quite the mess for 4000+ entries.

Linkding is a nice replacement for Pinboard (which I left years ago). It just needs federalisation support now. 😆

Хранить тысячи закладок в браузере — совершенно неблагодарная задача. Там отсутствуют даже офлайн-предпросмотр и автоматические теги, не говоря о полнотекстовом поиске и автоматическом скачивании/архивировании по RSS. Для нормального управления закладками нужно специализированное решение. Тут много вариантов, а одно из лучших — это опенсорсное приложение Hoarder («Копилка информации»). Оно устанавливается на сервер и выступает единой БД для доступа из любых клиентов: Android, iOS, Chrome, Firefox и т. д. Рассмотрим базовые функции этого приложения и как установить его на машине, где хранится личный информационный архив. Это может быть или домашний сервер, или VPS.

@nikolasdi Thanks for the hint. I tried @readeck now as well and it is great. But I'm still missing the #singlefile integration or at least need to understand how to add it. For my common tasks I may stay with #linkding for now. I also use @obsidian clipper to store really important stuff I need for my active knowledge base and mark and modify the content as needed. #obsidian #pocket #getpocket #bookmark

I built an #iOS app for #linkding using #IonicFramework. It's very nice and simple. If you use linkding, give it a try!

An update on #LinkThing (my work in progress #linkding app): it now supports infinite scrolling, toggling read/unread via swipes, and basic editing. #IonicFramework (with #react) is really a joy to work with.

I still need to support deleting and searching. I also want some way to surface the info that linkding scrapes from URL on the edit page. But it’s coming along nicely.

I’ve wanted to make a #pinboard app for a long time now, but the API was always so weird and there was always a promise of a new API soon (I still don’t think it’s out). #linkding is nice and self-hosted but lacks an iOS app. So I threw something together with #ionicframework and I think this will be a fun side project for me. I’m calling it LinkThing.

This version introduces an improved syncing algorithm that greatly reduces the load of the extension on the browser and adds a setting to choose the Bookmark folder where the Linkding bookmarks should go (for example the Bookmarks Toolbar)
