  1. @dbtechyt try some stuff, get your docs on an internal only website and spider with yacy and then rag pipeline with pydantic? I think things will keep evolving even in the next 6 mos - see what you can deliver for token gen per day, consider localai and dist inference. make a fedi instance and donate some time to the federated enclave #custom weights #open source local ai models #air gap #ai traphouse ipo

Many people have switched to #bentopdf , they say it's better . I'm still using Stirling Pdf for now, but I'll try it soon bentopdf .

I also installed the application Stirling Pdf on my laptop (Ubuntu Desktop) and it works fine.

  3. @dbtechyt I need to go national and feel less imposter syndrome - business consulting, migrating people to linux or just enabling them is so great -one of my goals is to get a working lib of ansible scripts #what can you do concrete examples #vetted howto #pihole #opnsense #debian #malcolm

  4. @dbtechyt , because while it's a bit of a pain I have yet to find anything else that works *everywhere* - and I need to monitor all kinds of weird OSes.

  5. @dbtechyt Those would be #ShellNGN and #vaultwarden to start with #mattermost following close on 3rd place. About 80 more containers afterwards

  6. @dbtechyt you know what I haven't seen, a comparison of setting up basic networking (SDN simple zones vs old-style Linux bridges) in terms of features and performance.

I'm interested in SDN because I'm doing at least 4 things at once with my #CouchLab: personal "live" boxes including virtualized dev machines; personal 24/7 services which may or may not be exposed to the internet; fedi-related "work" services which are exposed to the internet; and "work" services for a mom & pop Wordpress business I have with a friend. my main concerns are security in the event somebody cracks in to one of the internet-facing services, and isolation such that work on one set doesn't affect the others.

even so, networking is one of my weaker skills and I'm not using VLANs or anything like that (yet) ... that's probably happening soon, but for now it's physical separation and Linux bridges, and I'm just starting to explore SDN. the built-in DHCP service would be another good focus if you do make another video at any point!

  7. @dbtechyt #patchsaturday for the last few months.
Saved my ass from 0-day updates breaking things.
A little bit of patience and a LOT of self-control.
Updating everything on Saturday, with the rest of the weekend to fix if something breaks.

Also, having a PVE+PBS safety net is a great thing.
Backup everything, and then start messing with things.

    Recently I have found: Gatus

A simple status page solution. There are many like this out there but Gatus is very simple to configure (just a YAML configuration file) and it's very easy to deploy, just a Docker image or single Go binary, as you like.

It offers a nice status page without any bloat but still let you configure checks beyond classic ping or HTTP get checks.
One of such extras is checking the expiration time of a TLS certificate sent by the monitored HTTP server. Very handy and super easy to configure.

(The developer provides Gatus as FOSS but also as a hosted solution in case you do not want to deploy it yourself)
