I was sorry to hear that Penelope Keith has died.
Many people will remember her as Margo in The Good Life, but for me it was To the Manor Born.
Audrey fforbes-Hamilton could have been unbearable in the wrong hands. Proud, snobbish, stubborn, ridiculous.
But Penelope Keith made her human.
She had that rare comic gift of being completely precise without becoming cold. Every look, every pause, every lifted eyebrow seemed to know exactly where it belonged.
She was only sixteen years older than me, which feels close now.
When I was young, eighty-six sounded like another country. Now it feels like someone a little further down the same road has quietly stepped out of sight.
She made dignity funny.
She made fussiness magnificent.
A proper actress.

Dinant is cursed.
Today was the fourth time I tried to run the Descente de la Lesse.
1st time: DNF, fell, sprained my ankle.
2nd time: DNS, injury the week before.
3rd time: DNS, injury after casual run the day before.
4rd time (this time): finished but twisted my ankle 6k before the finish line.Every other run: not a problem. But this one..
So I’m done. Never coming back to this town.

It sucks when you wake up wanting to go to work and you can't put weight on your foot cause you find out you've sprained it. I've been doing better and went for my usual lesson in #karate today and did fine till I had to spin in the air for a kata and it hurt pretty good. My instructor asked what happened and gently scolded me (which, for him, is being nice), and we adjusted. Long story short, I'm doing better, just don't be a dumb ass like me...

Life with an allergy cat:

There have been some seriously tough kilometres this month — November threw plenty at me: sub-zero temperatures, snow, ice, #StormBert, and #StormConall. A run-in with gluten at the start of the month added to the challenge, with fatigue, nausea, headaches, joint pain and more (thanks, #CoeliacDisease).
At times this meant a gentler pace, a couple of extra rest days, and shorter distances when needed — but I kept going. And that’s the main secret to #running… just…keep…going!
November looked like this:
Distance: 229km (142 miles)
Longest run: 11.72km (7.28 miles)
Average run: 9.40km (5.84 miles)
Average pace: 5:16/km (8:29/mile)
Fastest km: 4:31/km (7:16/mile)

They're #smart, they're #stubborn and #persistent, and their teeth and claws can get through almost anything else - the hardware cloth I have is a 1/4" steel wire mesh made of (I think) 19- or 20-gauge steel wire. They can get through anything flimsier than that. So it blocks off parts of the rooms we don't want them in (wires, speakers, etc) and you learn to live with The Rabbit Owner House Look.
Don't get too attached to soft furnishings and carpets either 😜
