For the past four years I have been trying to come up with a way to train in the various martial arts I am familiar with (principally American #Kenpo and #Kyusho Jitsu). While shadow training works up to a point, there is no substitute for a physical training partner — for too many reasons to get into here.

My problem is that I moved away from my training cohorts 18 months ago to what seems to be a martial arts desert. I know of only two schools within reach one is in #Aikido, the other is a #KungFu school I’ve never heard of.

Given I’m 76 yo, even if a relatively fit one, what would either school do if I told them I was looking for a training partner? I know what i woud do if it was my school but then I’m not your average martial artist, and I’ve expereinced some instructors who would not take kindly to such requests.

I’m exploring some solutions, but none that would provide me with a uke.

I’m not expecting anyone to come up with a solution for me, I’m just journaling my pain.

It sucks when you wake up wanting to go to work and you can't put weight on your foot cause you find out you've sprained it. I've been doing better and went for my usual lesson in #karate today and did fine till I had to spin in the air for a kata and it hurt pretty good. My instructor asked what happened and gently scolded me (which, for him, is being nice), and we adjusted. Long story short, I'm doing better, just don't be a dumb ass like me...

Did you know that 8,000 kids in Canberra live in poverty? That’s shocking and awful. Fortunately organisations like Roundabout Canberra at working to provide families in need with essentials. The families from Astra Martial Arts and I have been collecting goods this term and today worked to sort the donations and give them to Roundabout. It’s a small action we can take to help our community. Thanks to everyone who helped by donating goods and helping today ❤️

You want to align the wrist bones to the bones in your forearm, to avoid any injuries to your #Nazi Smacking Gear.

In my spare time, I also study two martial arts: American #Kenpo karate and #Balintawak #Eskrima. I decided to start this server with a focus of hosting individuals interested in either #kenpo or #balintawak.
