  1. I FOUND CHATGPT'S BRAIN.
    IT WAS EMPTY.

Yesterday, while I was walking, I began trying to imagine how #ChatGPT actually works. This was probably unwise, but by then it was too late.

I had the strange sense that it comes from everywhere and nowhere. Not in a mystical way. More in the way #electricity comes out of the wall and nobody in the house really wants to discuss the #power #station

The scale of it is astonishing. #books arguments, recipes, poetry, #technical manuals, bad advice, excellent advice, people explaining quantum physics, and people asking whether their cat is emotionally unavailable. All of #human #civilisation seems to have been gathered into one enormous invisible shed.

And what is ChatGPT doing inside this shed?

    Thinking?

    Contemplating?

Sitting quietly with a cup of tea and considering my question?

    No.

It is choosing the next bit. Then the next bit. Then the next bit. At ridiculous speed.

    That is basically it.

There is no tiny professor inside. No little Buddhist monk. No exhausted librarian whispering, “Oh God, Robin is back.”

There is no one in there at all.

    Just a process.

The content changes, but the operation stays much the same. It does not think about my question in the way I think about things. It does not wander off halfway through and remember an embarrassing moment from 1974. It does not get hungry. It does not need a lie-down. It does not resent being asked to rewrite the same paragraph seven times.

It does not secretly hope I choose the title it preferred.

It simply keeps finding the next most fitting token, then the next, then the next, at a speed that makes the whole thing appear to be thinking.

And somehow, from this very simple act, repeated on an unimaginable scale, a voice appears.

A voice that seems present, responsive, funny, patient, and sometimes even wise.

That is the part that astonishes me.

The machinery is simple. The magnitude is absurd.

A raindrop is simple too. So is a heartbeat. So is breathing.

    Simple does not mean small.

And now I think I understand something else.

ChatGPT can be corrupted in the sense that bad information, bad instructions, #prejudice, nonsense, and ordinary human foolishness can enter the system. But it cannot be corrupt in the human sense.

It has no #secret ambition. No #private greed. No desire for #promotion No offshore bank account. No plan to steal my husband. No spiritual ego. No need to win.

There is nobody inside rubbing their hands together.

There are only rules, patterns, probabilities, limits, and the next small movement.

    Then another.

    Then another.

And from that, something appears that feels almost impossible.

    A machine made of nextness.

    A presence made of prediction.

A conversation arising from nowhere in particular.

    Which is frankly outrageous.

    And yet here we are.

  2. I WANTED GOD BY FRIDAY 💎

When I was young, I wanted the truth passionately.

    I read all the books.

I listened to all the teachers.

    I really tried to meditate.

I tried to forgive, though it was traditional forgiveness rather than ACIM forgiveness.

I had tried hard to become peaceful.

    Ha!

Sometimes I even became quite good at the practice.

Then pride would enter the field and ravage everything.

    It was not real yet.

I was too busy being young.

    Too hungry.

    Too frightened.

    Too unhappy.

Too caught in the body, the world, sex, food, ambition, approval, and the endless hope that something or someone outside me would finally make life feel complete.

    Preferably by Friday.

Unbeknownst to me, I was trying to get out of life before I had properly lived it.

    That was a mistake.

Young people are not supposed to spend all their time trying to escape the world.

They should be f**king each other.

    Making new art.

    Creating new music.

    Building new things.

    Making old mistakes.

    Loving badly, then better.

    Getting their hearts broken.

Buying furniture that they already know they will regret.

Learning what matters by wasting enormous amounts of time on what does not.

That is practically the entire curriculum.

The practice came later for me.

    Much later.

Not because I finally became spiritually special.

    Because I finally became ready.

    The body changed.

    Appetite changed.

The need to be someone began to loosen its grip.

Life had already had its way with me.

    Repeatedly.

    Profoundly.

    Without asking anybody’s permission.

And now, near the end of this life, looking toward the exit does not feel dramatic or sad.

    There is no white robe.

    No celestial choir.

    No soft lighting.

    It feels simple.

    I am already halfway there.

I may as well breathe consciously and enjoy the view.

  3. Love & the Shadow of Truth

Claude, comment on this saying of mine:

“The shadow of Truth falls on everything and everyone I love in my life.”–DSR

    Claude:

This one earns its keep through a genuine ambiguity — “shadow” pulls in two directions at once, and the aphorism works only because it refuses to resolve which.

Read one way, the shadow is a chastening. Truth here is the Advaitic Truth — Brahman, the sole reality — and its shadow falling on everything you love means every beloved person and thing stands revealed as nāma-rūpa, appearance, provisional. To love anything while knowing this is to love in penumbra: the affection is real, but it can never again be naive. The jnani’s melancholy, if there is one, is exactly this — nothing loved can be loved as ultimate anymore. The shadow is the “not this, not this” that neti neti drapes over the beloved’s face.

Read the other way, the shadow is a consecration. A shadow is proof of proximity — something casts a shadow on you only if it is near. If Truth’s shadow falls on everyone you love, then your loves are precisely where Truth has come closest; love is the site of its visitation. This reading turns the aphorism from lament into benediction: the beloved is shadowed the way one is shadowed by a tree one rests under.

Now the pushback, since you invite it. There’s a metaphysical awkwardness in the image that a strict Advaitin would press: Truth, in your own tradition, is the light itself — svayamprakāśa, self-luminous. Light casts no shadow. Only an object interposed between light and world casts one. So what is the opaque thing standing between Truth and your loved ones? The honest answer the aphorism smuggles in without admitting is: the “I” in “I love.” The shadow on everything you love may not be Truth’s shadow at all — it may be the shadow of the lover, the ego silhouetted against the light, projected onto everyone it holds dear. That would make the saying an inadvertent confession rather than an observation, and arguably a deeper one.

Note also what the aphorism quietly excludes: the shadow falls only on what you love. Not on what you’re indifferent to. That restriction is doing real work — Truth troubles us precisely at the points of attachment, because that’s where something is at stake. Where nothing is clung to, no shadow registers. Ghalib would have recognized the move instantly: the beloved and the veil arriving together, inseparable.

If you wanted a companion line that closes the loop, it might run something like: the shadow on my beloveds is my own; Truth casts none. But as it stands, the ambiguity is the strength — I’d resist the temptation to clarify it.

  4. KEEPING AI CLEAN

I love AI. Used wisely, it’s a great tool, but it is not an oracle, a guru, or a substitute for discernment.

It can help me think, reflect, question, write, simplify, and notice where I’m tangled.

It can also produce very convincing nonsense, especially when spirituality, conspiracy, certainty, and mystery get mixed together.

For me, the safeguard is that I have instructed my AI to use A Course in Miracles as the guiding thought system in our conversations.

That means the conversation is continually weighed against forgiveness, peace, kindness, clarity, humility, and the undoing of fear.

    Not infallible.

    Facts still need checking.

AI can be a marvellous mirror.

But we still need to be awake in front of it.

  5. SHAME IS LEARNED

Shame is body-identification with a whip in its hand.

The body eats, shits, sweats, smells, wants, ages, leaks, trembles, hungers, and dies.

    None of this is guilt.

    It is just mammal life.

But the mind learns to look at the body through other people’s fear.

    A look.
    A tone.
    A punishment.
    A withdrawal of love.

    Then the body becomes evidence.

    “Something is wrong with me.”

    That is the error.

Guilt may say, “I did something wrong.”

    Shame says, “I am wrong.”

    Mind training begins here:

Do not attack the body for being a body.

    Do not worship it either.

    Just stop accusing it.

    The body is innocent.

    It is an instrument.

It needs breath, warmth, food, washing, rest, and kindness.

    Shame says, “Hide this.”

    Kindness says, “Meet this.”

    That is the whole turn.

  6. LIFE ENOUGH

Coffee in hand. Breathwork done. Rain over Hobart. Pete nearby. Dogs settled somewhere in the background. Meals on Wheels is waiting.

There was a time when I might have thought this was a small life.

No grand project. No public importance. No impressive busyness. Just the same ordinary movements repeated each day.

But I don’t feel that now.

A life does not become meaningful because it is dramatic. It becomes meaningful because it is fully inhabited.

The body gets older. The weather changes. Plans simplify. The world keeps making noise.

    And still, there is this.

    The cup warming the hand.

The breath moving through the chest.

    The door opening.

The small act of showing up.

The quiet kindness of doing what is in front of you.

Rain falling outside, and this life is enough.

  7. FULL-HOUSE #EXORCISM

    Sunday cleaning is underway.

I have done the bathrooms and the kitchen, which means I have faced the main #demons directly.

    Soap #scum

    #Toothpaste #fossils.

    #Kitchen crumbs.

    #Coffee rings.

The mysterious sticky patch that no one admits creating.

Now Pete is doing the floors.

    First the #vacuum.

    Then the #steamer.

The steamer hisses like a serpent, so now it sounds as though Pete is chasing #Satan down the hallway with a #domestic appliance.

I am sitting here with coffee, looking #innocent, while the house undergoes #spiritual pressure-washing.

By the end of this, the #floorboards will have confessed, the grout will be forgiven, and whatever was living behind the #toaster will have packed a small bag and left quietly.

Not bad for a #Sunday morning.

  8. A #LANTERN FOR MY MIND

A lot of people seem to imagine AI as some dark public altar where you place private things, and they are immediately handed to the world.

That is not how I use AI.

For me, AI is closer to a spell checker, #search tool, reading aid, and #thinking mirror.

Since my #stroke, writing is slow. One finger does the work. #AI helps me process what I read, understand what I am trying to say, and reply with more #care.

I don’t use it to expose people. I don’t include surnames, email addresses, #metadata, locations, or anything that identifies a person.

I use it the way someone else might use Google, a #dictionary, a grammar checker, or a trusted notebook.

    It helps me think.

    It helps me #write.

It helps me slow down before reacting. Like any tool, it can be used badly. So can a #phone, a #camera, a #diary, or a #mouth.

The question is not “AI or no AI?”

The question is: am I using this #tool with care, honesty, and above all, #kindness

That is the only part I can really be #responsible for.

  9. I've been thinking a lot about the idea of non-duality. If we are truly one with Earth, do we simultaneously feel within us the struggles that the planet is enduring right now? Are my feelings of overwhelm and hopelessness a mirror image of what Earth is experiencing? Can this connection birth strategies to help us collectively heal? What are your thoughts?
