  1. Orientalism and the Denial of Muslim Political Agency

Western political discourse often treats Muslims as politically illegible, interpreting Muslim societies through secular or liberal frameworks. This critique examines how Orientalism embedded in Western political thought denies Muslim political agency and frames Islamic resistance as a threat rather than a response to imperial violence.

  3. "Hegel ... sees things in terms of a 'principle of Idealism' ... It is a teleological or quasi-teleological principle, according to which things must be seen as if existing on account of, or as if tending towards, certain consummating experiences, experiences where there will cease to be a barrier between the self and other persons, or between the thinking mind and the world confronting it."

  4. "We say that β€˜mistakes happen’. But that’s not true. Mistakes are always made by individuals at specific times and places. This means that mistakes are not simply failures or malfunctions.

  5. "Bifidobacteria metabolize lactulose to optimize gut metabolites and prevent systemic infection in patients with liver disease” nature.com/articles/s41564-023 – very interesting study and data, but the title seems a bit teleogical. I don't think the bacteria woke up one day and decided to prevent systemic infection…

  6. #Afterlife usually refers to some form of "life after death". Various proponents of the idea envisage it as "eternal life", "reincarnation", or something more abstract or weird. Common to most versions of an afterlife is the belief in a soul (or similar concept) which, being the spiritual part or analog of the body, will live forever (or at least for a very long time) without the need for a corporeal body. Purveyors of vague abstractions often offer the idea of an afterlife to believers or to would-be believers as a comforting answer to fears of death, and as a response to esoteric questions like "Why do bad things happen to me?" or "What is the purpose in life?"
