  6. `Here we fabricate a single-molecule quantum #sensor at the apex of the metallic tip of a scanning tunnelling microscope..we measure the magnetic and electric dipole fields emanating from a single Fe atom..Our method enables atomic-scale quantum sensing experiments of electric and #magnetic fields on conducting surfaces and may find applications in the sensing of spin-labelled #biomolecules and of spin textures in #quantum #materials`

Formation of extraterrestrial peptides and their derivatives: science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv -> Peptides on Interstellar Ice: uni-jena.de/en/240417-peptide- - international research team led by physicists at Friedrich Schiller University Jena observes formation of #biomolecules under space conditions.

  8. #Biomolecules such as #amino acids and sugars occur in two mirror-image forms – in all living organisms, however, only one is ever found. Why this is the case is still unclear.

  15. Research into the nervous system, brain disorders, and general biological functions has often relied upon inserted electrodes to act as stimulators.

These mechanical parts, however, are inherently incompatible with organic tissues and can be finicky.

Now, Swedish researchers have used polymer gel to allow self-assembly of biological electrodes within the body.

  17. After a day trying this out I decided to do a proper #introduction. I never was an active twitter user but this is looking much more interesting to me.

I'm 26 years old. I'm a PhD student at the #UniversidadDeValparaiso , #Chile While my native tongue is Chilean Spanish I tend to keep my online accounts in English.

    *Research topics* I study #Biophysics and #ComputationalBiology. I do #MolecularDynamics simulations of #CarbonNanomaterials and #BioMolecules, mostly with #GROMOS .

*Computer stuff* I'm an #Emacs enthusiast running #doomemacs . #linux daily driver. I know #python and some #julia and I'm learning a bit of #C++ and #elisp . Recently got into keyboards and switched to a moonlander (split kb) and the #colemakdh layout .

*Hobbies* As you might've guessed, I'm into nerdy stuff. I dabble into #ttrpg (prefer #pathfinder 2e rather than #DnD) and #tcg (Primarily #digimon, and recently #marvelsnap). I read a ton of #manga and sometimes watch #anime. I play videogames on both #pc and #nintendo #switch

#Chirality of #BioMolecules (left/right-handedness) is central to life. Light can be chiral too, a tool to interact with them. Light can also excite spins in #2dSemiconductors and rotate objects. #Nanophotonics can enhance these very weak effects. We surprisingly found that different phenomena, all relying on chirality of light, are incompatible! And found design rules for #metasurfaces for enhancing different chiral interactions (led by @albertogcurto).

  23. I have just set up a Twitter (is it even allowed to mention the Blue Bird over here?) account for the Textile Resources in Viking Age Landscapes-project of which I’m part. If you’re interested in #Viking Age textiles, #sheephusbandry and all sorts of cool #biomolecules then give us a follow and we’ll keep you posted as everything progresses.
