🪨🔥 #Earth’s inner core reaches about 5,500°C, roughly as hot as the surface of the #sun.
Scientists from UC #SantaCruz and Sun Yat-sen University calculated this using diamond anvil cells and shock-wave experiments that simulate the extreme pressures deep underground. The outer core’s liquid #iron also generates #Earth’s magnetic field, which protects all #life from #solar #radiation.

🏛️📆 By 46 BCE, #Rome’s calendar had drifted so badly that #spring festivals happened in what should have been #winter. Priest-politicians had manipulated the system for centuries, adding or skipping months to benefit allies.
Julius Caesar added 90 days to the year – making it 445 days total – then scrapped the old lunar system for a #solar calendar. The Julian calendar became the foundation of the one we use today, though Roman priests immediately botched the leap-year rules after Caesar’s assassination.
