Sonda Voyager 1 pořídila 14. února 1990 při pohledu zpět ze vzdálenosti 6,4 miliardy kilometrů slavný snímek Země známý jako Bleděmodrá tečka. Planeta na něm zabírala pouhých 0,12 pixelu, krátce nato byly kamery sondy kvůli úspoře energie vypnuty. Fotografii prosazoval astronom Carl Sagan, který v ní viděl připomínku toho, že všichni lidé sdílejí jediný křehký domov. Článek ji spojuje s takzvaným efektem nadhledu a s dnešní dobou digitálního spojení, jež nemusí automaticky znamenat menší osamělost. Pohled z velké dálky podle autora stírá společenské i politické rozdíly a zdůrazňuje vzájemnou provázanost lidstva.
