  5. Mysteries unravel,
    In the sorcerer’s cold stare,
    Human folly concocts,
    Yet gods’ whispers vanish,
    Drowned in magic’s deceit.

    Wisdom’s obscure maze,
    Navigated by the reckless,
    In darkness they stumble,
    Divine truths they chase,
    But grasp fleeting shadows.

    Silence holds sway,
    In sorcerer’s domain,
    Human ambition ensnared,
    By cosmic machinations,
    Gods’ presence, distant.

    Between realms they wander,
    Sorcerer, chasing illusions,
    In twilight’s suffocating grip,
    Faith wavers, clinging to illusions,
    Magic’s tangled deception.

    In the occult’s hold,
    Soul finds no solace, torment,
    Humanity’s folly laid bare,
    Divine essence obscured,
    In sorcery’s unyielding grasp.

  7. Is Atheism A Choice?
    answers-in-reason.com/?p=47

This is a question that I hear often, and isn"t necessarily as black and white as it sounds. Although we all like to have a simple 'Yes/No" answer to these types of questions, the problem is often much too deep for that kind of simplicity. The question can also be approached...

  8. We really need to stop calling obvious schizophrenia, manic delusions, and psychosis ‘unverified personal gnosis.’ A person whom I knew 15 years ago has persistent beliefs, regardless of facts, that they knew me in a past life and we made some pact to alter the future to save the world from Nazis. It’s insane, but everyone in the occult Discord is nodding their heads and validating it.

A delusion is a persistent belief regardless of facts. This person has dreams and hallucinations that they believe are gods, spirits, and telepathy. In these hallucinations and delusions, the spirits tell them who random strangers were in a past life. A lot of these delusions are obviously paranoid and inevitably roll into a conspiracy theory about Nazis. This is very terrifying. This means, based on a random occurrence with a person, they will create a parasocial narrative that manifests as them knowing this person.

Most schizophrenia delusions emerge from noise and thus have no actual information. You can uncover that it is a delusion by asking the person for details. For example, if they make a claim about remembering a past life in Egypt, you can do the equivalent of asking them who the President of the United States is now. I did that with this person. They were claiming to have known me and other people in a past life in Egypt 3000 years ago, so I looked up what was going on around that time. I asked them who the high priest was, who the pharaoh was, and what they remember happening around that time. All of it was wrong.

That caused most of that Discord to jump all over me and imply that it was fine because it was their personal gnosis. To be clear, this person is creating parasocial relationships and narratives based on delusional narratives that they are applying to random people they meet.

Phrasing things as they happened in a different reality or a past life is a way to avoid the falsification of and is a way to rationalize the delusion. Claiming that you knew a person in a past life is a way to justify the parasocial relationship. It is not unverified personal gnosis. It’s mental illness. There is nothing magical about mental illness. If I had a nickel for every time a schizophrenic occultist spun up a delusional narrative to justify an adversarial parasocial relationship with me, I’d be rich. This is a major problem.

  10. I am so tired of this shit… Look, the world is on fire, and things are just going to get worse from here. I am tired of occultists dealing with this by creating the same type of grandiose narrative where they are part of some mystical order tasked with using magical powers to stop a dark conspiracy. Apparently, every occultist on social media is Batman, The Scarlet Witch, and John Constantine.

Yes, fascism and authoritarianism are very real threats, and there are fascist esoteric orders out there. However, they are not setting up a telepathic network or using dark, eldritch reality-warping powers. They are using regular old, mundane, typical political corruption – the arcane magic of Machiavellianism. You fight that with the illumination of science and reason. Not more superstition and propaganda.

I’m not saying that we are helpless in the face of fascism, but forming parasocial relationships with random people online and LARPing into the astral world on some weird campaign or doing magical rituals alone in your bedroom won’t help anything. It is a coping mechanism. If you want to help people because it is the right thing to do and you just don’t want to feel helpless, find ways of being of service in your community. Honestly, I think we are past discourse. I think some real physical violence towards fascists is in order and not arguments online. LARPing as a witch casting curses won’t cut it. It is merely a way to avoid feeling helpless and managing existential dread, and it helps no one. I mean showing up with metal bats. There is a difference between altruism and coping.

Every magician on social media apparently has gods on speed dial; though, they are just as subject to the bullshit of everyday life as the mundane person is. Every magician on the Internet apparently has reality-warping powers on the Internet, though we all live in one of the worst-shared realities possible. I am over it.

  11. The thing about practical applications of magic and psychic phenomena is that they’re falsifiable. The existence of spirits isn’t. The existence of psychic phenomena makes it so that the belief in spirits can create effects attributed to spirits.

I think that many people involved with skeptical paradigms of psi, magic, and the paranormal have become obsessed with gods and spirits because they can’t disprove them. However, you can disprove if your magic to shift the odds worked and was due to chance or not, whether the object moved, whether you’re still sick, etc.

I think most people would face reality and tweak their beliefs accordingly, but they do not. I think these people are so obsessed with this stuff that they moved the goalposts from what could be scientifically studied and disproven to what can’t, which means it has no factual support, to avoid a mental and existential crisis. Essentially, they’re couching their beliefs in things you cannot disprove to avoid reality because it causes them to spin into a crisis.

I think what causes all of these once skeptical magicians to converge on animistic paradigms and idolatry is the realization that they have no real paranormal influence on events. They’ve turned to creating idols and running on pure delusion and faith to avoid facing reality. And there’s an evangelical slant to it. They then wish to communicate about these allegedly autonomous or intelligent entities, so they end up trying to recruit people into cults that center around idolatry.

Over the years, I’ve seen that wave of spiritual desperation completely destroy occult and paranormal spaces devoted to skepticism and rigor. Scientific paradigms are inherently adversarial and skeptical. You support your hypotheses and theories by you and your peers trying to disprove them.

It’s horrifying watching them get sicker and sicker. I think what’s driving this is the realization that what they wanted and what they spent their whole lives chasing isn’t real.

The main problem I have with these people is that they constantly crave external validation, and they only get that validation if others share the same beliefs and culture. So, they’re constantly trying to recruit or antagonize you in every interaction. They have the tendency of trying to change whatever space they’re in if it’s intolerable to them, and if people refuse to conform to their beliefs, they project and call that person insufferable.

For example, there are atheists who believe in materialism and don’t believe in the paranormal in a space. Instead of speaking to people who share their beliefs and leaving the atheists alone, they will obsessively try to coerce or persuade the atheists. When that does not work, they default to harassment and antagonism. I think what’s under that is the loss of control. By believing in the paranormal stuff that they did and seeing it debunked, they are forced to admit they don’t have control, so they spin narratives that align with the chosen trope. It’s sad.
