I CAN BE SAD
WITHOUT MAKING IT A PROJECT 💎

Something happened recently in a close friendship. Nothing dramatic. No great argument. No doors slammed. Just that peculiar feeling of someone becoming more distant.

And immediately the mind went to work. What happened? Was it something I said? Should I explain? Should I write? Should I wait? Should I repair something? Have I misunderstood?

Round and round, the monkey mind had me well and truly by the short and curlies.

And then this morning I remembered one of my favourite lines from A Course in Miracles:

“I need do nothing.”

And for once I took it absolutely literally.

THERE IS NOTHING I NEED TO DO.

I don't need to chase anyone. I don't need to work out what another person is thinking. I don't need to manufacture an explanation for their behaviour. I don't even need to make myself feel better about it.

That last bit matters. “I need do nothing” isn't a clever way of getting rid of sadness. The sadness can be here.

WHAT DISAPPEARS IS THE ASSIGNMENT.

I wonder how much of our lives we spend trying to mentally manage things that are already happening. Other people's feelings. Their decisions. Whether they stay. Whether they leave. What they think of us. What tomorrow might bring.

We call much of this thinking. Quite a lot of it is attempted control.

Sometimes there really is something to do. Apologise. Speak. Act. Help. Change something.

AND SOMETIMES THERE SIMPLY ISN'T.

This morning, there isn't.

The sadness may still be here. But there is nothing I need to do about it.

Avec les progrès de l’imagerie médicale, il est devenu possible de voir, avec grande précision, ce qui se passe dans le cerveau d’une personne en méditation ou d’une autre qui prétend avoir des visions. Lorsque des neurologues s’intéressent à la religion, la proximité entre les sciences dures et les disciplines interprétatives posent de multiples questions.

Depuis une trentaine d’années, de nombreux scientifiques ont étendu le champ des recherches sur le cerveau. Dans l’immense champ de recherches, sont nés les concepts de « neuro-anthropologie », « neuro-théologie » et bien d’autre « neuro-quelque chose ».

L’homo technicus-economicus croit aussi, à sa manière, se suffire à lui-même. Arrogant, démiurge, autosatisfait, il se frotte les mains, dispose de tout ce qu’offre la planète, s’arroge tous les droits, ignore ses devoirs, coupe les liens qui le relient aux autres humains, à la nature, à l’histoire et au cosmos. Il pousse si loin l’émancipation qu’il court le risque de déchirer tous les fils et de décrocher, de se décrocher, de s’auto-expulser de la création. Son idéologie est si simpliste que n’importe quel fondamentalisme religieux apparaît en comparaison subtil et pluriel. Un seul précepte, une seule loi, un seul paramètre, un seul étalon : le rendement ! Qui dit mieux dans la trivialité criminelle d’un ordre unique ? Comment ne pas voir que chaque subside retiré à la culture et à l’éducation devra être multiplié par cent pour renflouer les services médicaux, l’aide sociale et la sécurité policière ? Car sans connaissances, sans vision et sans fertilité imaginaire, toute société sombre tôt ou tard dans le non-sens et l’agression.

Il existe à ce jeu macabre un puissant contre-poison.

A portée de la main, à tout instant : c’est la gratitude.

Elle seule suspend notre course avide.

Elle seule donne accès à une abondance sans rivage.

Elle révèle que tout est don et qui plus est : don immérité. Non parce que nous en serions, selon une optique moralisante, indignes, mais parce que notre mérite ne sera jamais assez grand pour contrebalancer la générosité de la vie !

Christiane Singer (1943-2007) était une femme de lettres française. Qu’il s’agisse de romans ou d’essais, toute son œuvre est baignée de spiritualité. Elle fut disciple de Karlfried Graf Dürckheim. Femme de la rencontre, elle était très régulièrement invitée à donner des conférences dans les contextes les plus variés. Thérapeute, elle conduisait également des séminaires dans la propriété du château médiéval de Rastenberg en Autriche où elle vivait avec mari et enfants. Christiane Singer, nourrissant son récit de souvenirs, d’anecdotes, de contes et de récits mystiques, atteint, avec une grâce infinie, l’intime et l’universel, dans ce livre de sagesse dont on ressort apaisé et radieux.

I don't know for sure but I think I just lost a #friend over being too #forgiving in the moment.

Sorry not sorry. I don't stand for what I can't #become as such.

I do what I can to #embrace all #people who #appreciate who I am. It's all I can do, and if that #means my #contribution towards #friendships isn't meant to #last then so #be it. But if it does, they're really #rare and I #cherish them because they're very easy to #lose over #something you thought you could #understand at the time.

I'll #say this.

All #echo #chambers are the #primary #reason as to why a #friendship falls apart. Because I've seen this #effect everyone to the point of no #return possible, and honestly...you can't get along with people who spend more of their #time invested into something other than what you are doing with that person together. And I don't think I'm alone in wishing that at times, such an #investment cultivates #familiarity over #routine on a continuous basis.

But you know what? I still appreciate the chance to #care for all it is #worth as such. I do my best to live #life with no #regrets to count on #growing without me there to #manage them.

It's my own #fault for putting a bit of my #soul into everything I do alongside my #heart and #mind accordingly. And as afar as I #know there's no #changing that, at least in a very easy way.

If you ever truly #need #friends by your side, you'll know whether they're people you can #count on or not, by the way they #treat your #ambitions as an #individual person.

You can still #respect someone if they do not #acknowledge that you have any. But the chances of you becoming #close, are not as great.

With that being said, you do not need to #support the same #ambition someone else does, in order to be friends. You just need to set your #ego aside so that such a person can fulfill their #desire the best way they know how to.

That's what I do, and I carry a lot of #weight because of it. All of the #memories set aside because the soul wasn't ready to let go of the ones #entrapping their #conscious #focus throughout seemingly more #important issues outside of my #control in all of the #moments they last.

Putting my best #self forward, means respecting that and not forcing the #matter at hand. It doesn't make that #feeling go away, born of lost #opportunity at the #core of #potential #reciprocity as such.

But yes #indeed I know #hope is not so easily broken by #fragile #futility alone. Which is why I continue to #forgive but not #forget all of the ways life makes a different #path #unfold into #being by the #presence of #purpose for everyone.
