This story makes me so angry. Partly because I know some of the players, but mostly because how dare a judge demand a woman who is perfectly happy in Colorado be forced to live in an assisted living facility in Dallas for part of the year, just so her greedy children can access her estate more easily.

Peggy is a hella lady, fierce, uncompromisingly efficient, absolute goddess at sales. She made a lot of money selling houses to the very wealthy. Her husband made a lot of money. It’s a goodly estate her eldest are trying to exfiltrate.

Her two oldest children don’t think she has the right to make decisions, As soon as they heard the diagnosis, they got court orders to take control.

All five lawyers in court today are being paid out of Peggy’s estate, that’s what the guardians are doing with her money. Spending it against her wishes. This is obscene.

Today we closed on selling my elderly parent's condo. 6 months ago we moved him to assisted living. The amount of stuff we've needed to do for him in the last 6 months, all apart from his medical care, has been kind of incredible. He probably has undiagnosed ADHD, and aging has not helped his executive function. His problem-solving skills are located in 1985: he would start with the yellow pages, and doesn't really have a next strategy after that. With the sale of the house, I hope we've turned a corner on what kinds of caregiving we're doing. My husband and I got take-out Japanese food tonight to celebrate, because we're very boring and that was the best realistic thing we could think of. #eldercare

Goddamn shitty medical supply company didn't ship Uncle's glucose monitor sensors because of some sort of insurance problem, didn't send any email notifying us there was a problem, so now my Uncle has no glucose sensors and it's going to be a couple days at a minimum before I can get this fixed.
It's the second time in two months one of these companies has run into insurance issues and just not shipped critical supplies, with no notice.
Fucking assholes.

I'm struggling for ideas to make my parents' lives easier. Mum's mobility has deteriorated to the point where she's struggling to transfer herself from her wheelchair. Right now what we need is a service we could call where someone comes and helps... but there doesn't seem to be anything between 'call a friend' and 'call an ambulance'. Ideas most welcome; I just don't know what to do or who to talk to. #eldercare #elderly
