This is a #grass‽ From giant bamboos to maize and the common lawn ryegrass, #Poaceae can be quite variable. #Panicum cupressifolium from #Madagascar has minute leaves, making it look like a #cypress (hence the name).

Mangoes are known for their delicious fleshy #fruits. The #mango #fruit is not large berry but a so-called #drupe. He encouraged #Farmers to #Plant rubber #Trees & devised #Ingenious ways to #Tap for #Latex without harming the #Tree.
By 1920, #Malaya produced over half the world's rubber.
And to think it all started with #Seeds Henry collected from 22 #Plants...

#OTD John Tyndall, #Irish experimental #Physicist, died.In 1859, he discovered the #Greenhouse effect - 3 years after the American #Scientist, Eunice Foote.
Tyndall is #Remembered for learning why the #Sky is #Blue: #Light scattering through #Molecules suspended in the #Atmosphere creates the #Color, which is sometimes referred to as #Tyndall #Blue.

#OTD Andre #Michaux made his way into #SouthCarolina by crossing the #Tugalo River.
He wrote in his #Journal:"I recognized the #YellowRoot, #MountainLaurel, #Hydrangea, & #Hemlock #Spruce...."
It was the first time Andre saw Yellow Root (Rhododendron minus), also called the #Piedmont #Rhododendron, which is native to #Tennessee, #NorthCarolina, South Carolina, #Georgia, & #Alabama.

#OTD Gottlieb Haberlandt, #Austrian #Botanist, born.The #Father of #Plant #Tissue #Culture, he was the first #Scientist to point out the possibility of #Totipotentiality ("to-'ti-pe-tent-chee-al-it-tee"), which Gottlieb defined as "the theory that all plant cells can give rise to a complete plant."
During the 1950s, scientists proved that any part of a plant grown in nutrient media under sterile conditions can create a whole new plant.

This crew consumed 65 species for #PlantsGiving today. The youngest ate roughly .8 lbs of Vaccinium macrocarpon sauce.
33 families. Lamiaceae and Poacaeae tied for the lead. The Trader Joe’s 21 Seasoning Salute my bro-in-law injected the turkey with was a clutch player.

Alexander Pierce Anderson, an American #Botanist, is born.His work at the #NewYork #BotanicalGarden (#NYBG) led to a fantastic discovery.
Alex suspected that microscopic amounts of water existed inside the #Nucleus of #Starch crystals in #Rice. Once he found a way to extract the #Water, he created #PuffedRice... and #Breakfast #Cereal was changed #ForeverAlexander sold over 20,000 lbs of puffed rice at the 1904 #St.Louis #WorldFair.
