  6. * "Weed management
is Australia's most expensive land management problem – for both the environment and agriculture."

"Recent research found that the cost of weed management made up more than three-quarters [81 per cent] of the total cost for recovering Australia's threatened species." >>
    abc.net.au/news/2025-03-15/aus

    * Gardeners, pastoralists and the horticultural industry love imported exotic flora. Some are illegal but plant retailers and hobbyists continue to sell these weeds.

Some have "a dense shrub layer which excludes native plants, mainly on and near the coast, but it also transforms the habitat and, through that, deprives native wildlife of important resources. It's leaving future generations an immense burden because a lot of plants still have a long way to spread." >>

  7. This is a very long shot (and has nothing to do with history & co :sadness: ), but does anyone know of a database/book/compehensive list, or someone who might know one, about crop responses to deficit irrigation?

    Also: accessible without academic affiliation.

  8. #CamdenME - #Workshop#NeedleFelted Mushrooms with Sam Coon

    Ages 12+
    Class fee: $27 Members, $30 Non-Members
Materials fee: $5 paid to instructor
    Beginner+

To Register, please call (207) 236-2239. Registration fees are non-refundable. Children under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.3

    Description:

"Whether used as a lovely sculpted display, an ornament, or even as a pincushion, needle felted mushrooms are a fun project to create for all levels: those starting out, and those already familiar with the process. Class instruction will include wool types used, needle safety precautions and proper use, how to create a form using core wool, and adding exterior details with #DyedWool. Examples will be provided, such as fly agarics, boletes, chanterelles, and russulas. Students will be able to complete 1-2 mushrooms by the end of the class session, depending on the size and details.

"Sam Coon is a self-taught #FiberArtist, and has been making felt since being introduced to both needle felting and wet felting in 2009.

"Much of her inspiration is gleaned from the natural environment, particularly patterns, colors, and shapes. From there, various types of items are created including vessels, wall art pieces, sculptures, jewelry, and wearable felted items that are nuno felted. In these art forms, she uses wool fibers that have not been spun or woven, such as Merino or Corriedale. In many instances, fabric, silk and viscose fibers are incorporated to change the textural quality of the felt and for added dimension.

"What particularly stands out the most to her, when working with wool to make felt, is that the sculptural qualities of wool are impressive, making creative possibilities seemingly endless. Along with working in the studio, she also regularly teaches needle and wet felting classes at varying locations and age groups.

"This workshop is generously co-sponsored by Camden Riverhouse Hotel.

"#Merryspring is your community nature center offering #WalkingTrails, cultivated #gardens, #wildlife, and #ecology and #horticulture educational programs all year round. The park is located at the end of Conway Road, just off of Route 1 in Camden behind Hannaford Shopping Plaza."

  9. Pesticide spray drift from intensive horticulture on the the mid-north coast NSW -
    Discontent in the region.

Home owners, dairy and beef producers among those concerned about how pesticide use affects their land as well as water quality on the mid-north coast

“Between 2001 and 2016 blueberry farming expanded 400% – mainly around the Coffs Harbour region.”

“This monitoring showed the continued detection of pesticides in most waterways sampled, highlighting the need for ongoing monitoring in the region.”

“Monitoring in the Nambucca valley by the EPA has detected three different pesticides in low levels in three creeks, suggesting water quality in the area is not being impacted by excessive amounts of pesticides.”

  12. "Child's Golden Japanese Mayberry", _Mayflower_ magazine, May 1896, Floral Park, New York, USA. Likely Rubus palmatus (or a hybrid): the plant is native to Korea and Japan and sets golden yellow or orange fruit in May. The leaves are more less the same as in the print, the only bit that doesn't quite match is the picture of it as a small tree with a single trunk - R. palmatus is a shrub with biennial canes.
