Using the gravity assist and planetary alignment to visit the big 4 gas giants of our Solar neighbourhood. Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune and then to the edge of our System away from Sun's influence.
Voyager 2 (the first of the twin spacecraft) was launched on this day. And the only spacecraft to visit Uranus and Neptune.

Bei der Regelung der Nachfolge lehnt Andreas Gayk ab, als Stellvertreter des neuen Parteivorsitzenden Erich Ollenhauer nach Bonn zu gehen. Manchen galt Kiels Oberbürgermeister selbst als der offensichtliche Nachfolger von Kurt Schumacher, dessen Linie der konsequenten Abgrenzung vom Kommunismus und Festhalten am Ziel der Wiedervereinigung Deutschlands er teilte.

Rǫgnvaldr Kali Kolsson (c. 1100–1158), Earl of Orkney, died #OTD, 20 August.
Rǫgnvaldr was a skilled poet (& after his death – slightly surprisingly – canonised as St Ronald of Orkney – f.d. 20 August). Ian Crockatt has translated many of his poems; this one is from CRIMSONING THE EAGLE’S CLAW: The Viking Poems of Rǫgnvaldr Kali Kolsson (Arc Publications, 2014)

Heute ist der 30. Todestag von Rio Reiser . Seine Band - Ton, Steine Scherben - hatte vor 56 Jahren, im Juni 1970, ihren ersten Auftritt. Außerhalb der radikalen Linken ist Rio mehr oder weniger in Vergessenheit geraten oder wird, wie in Teilen der Salonlinken, lediglich auf sein Spätwerk (König von Deutschland, Junimond usw.) reduziert. Pass gut zur aktuellen Tendenz, die eigene Geschichte zu vergessen und nur noch Politik an marginalen Randzonen zu machen. Die Scherben hatten da noch das revolutionäre Subjekt im Blick. Höchste Zeit also, den ersten TV Auftritt Rio's und seinen Scherben mit dem richtungsweisenden Barrikadenschlager "Macht kaputt, was Euch kaputtmacht" nochmal aufzuführen.
