Two UK candidates for my #FavouritePlant of the #WildflowerHour year. Sea Milkwort at Church Norton in May because I'd never seen it before and while its small size makes it easy to miss it's really stunning when seen up close. And Slender Thistle from the car park at #RSPB #PaghamHarbour seen during the same trip. I'm usually there a bit later in the summer and tend to see this when it's past its best. #Bloomscrolling #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers #photography

No doubt about my #FavouritePlant from this summer - I'd had several near misses with Strawberry Clover in recent years, finding plants that were almost certainly this species but I couldn't prove it. In #Paris in August I found a nice large clump at the Parc Andre Citroen, showing not just the pink-tinged flowers but also lots of the very plain leaves and just one of the distinctive seed heads. #WildflowerHour #Bloomscrolling #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers #photography

Perennial Sow Thistle is very common in the northern part of #Spurn peninsula so I always see lots of it at #Migfest. Enormous, shaggy yellow flowers shouting at you from the road verges. Always a red-letter day when I see Goatsbeard. Not that it's at all rare, it's just I'm not really a morning person and it doesn't open its flowers later in the day. This is an ode to farmer Martin Ritchie in Essex, who cannot bear the thought of spraying his field of barley with weed killers. These are just a few of the wildflowers and their visitors to be found in the field. It was a joy to camp on his meadow.

In the summer of 2015, I spent much of a holiday on Arran documenting as many different wild flowers as I could find on the island, and uploading photos with common & Latin names for each one, along with the location I found them in.
I remember how delighted I was to discover a wee Scarlet Pimpernel...
