The #Wiltshire #WildlifeTrust reserve at Lower Moor farm is known for its dragonflies and they were good yesterday, but I also make a point of an annual visit to the colony of Welted Thistle near the iron age hut. All thistles are beautiful IMHO but these are quite special. #WildflowerHour #Bloomscrolling #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers #photography

I tried to tell the Large Skipper #butterfly it was late for the #PollinatorPals challenge, but it insisted on posing on this rather nice Marsh Thistle at Ravensroost Wood #Wiltshire #WildlifeTrust reserve at lunchtime, so I wasn't going to argue. #WildflowerHour #Bloomscrolling #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers #photography #UKWildlife

Welted Thistle at the #Wiltshire #WildlifeTrust site at #LowerMoorFarm. Just look at the spines on that. #WildflowerHour #Bloomscrolling #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers #photography

Because of the #HarebellChallenge I went to a nearby #Wiltshire #WildlifeTrust reserve which I expected to have them, Clout's Wood. It has a nice chalky grassland hillside which I'm sure I've seen them on before. Not a hint of them. However the Woolly Thistle population was having a good year and there were hundreds of those. Incredible things. #WildflowerHour #Wiltshire #Bloomscrolling #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers #photography

Late for the UK- but since I'm home/not yet outdoors on a Sunday afternoon *and* just at the edge of the growing season, here's a post for #WildflowerHour ! Photos from last week, #FirstFlowers of the season: #Aspen -Populus tremuloides +Willow- one of our several native #Salix species. Bonus #pollinators non-native #honeybee on the Aspen- supposed to be wind pollinated! + one of several types of #flies seen on the Willows (along with honeybees) #Alberta #Spring #Canada #bees #florespondence
