  1. Mineral Monday! Reticulate Intergrowths in Basalt By Chris Hamilton I went on two science & dredging cruises to the Southwest Indian Ridge in 1984 and 1986 as a petrologist. This sample is the first named, first dredged SWIR mid-ocean ridge basalt. #MineralMonday #MSACommunications #basalt #MORB

  6. "... if we want to solve this problem, planting trees is not enough."

We have basalt in Aotearoa, right? Maybe we need to be importing tech from Iceland for more than just geothermal electricity generation?

    carbfix.com/

But I agree with everyone else you say there. There are a multitude of things we could be doing that the neither NatACT First nor the Hipkins clownshow are likely to support.

  10. #Lava is a mixture of minerals

Harriened lava is called #basalt. It usually contains a small number of visible #crystals, as in this piece. See those flecks of green? They're crystals of a mineral called #olivine

  26. Along the Snaefellsnes Peninsula in Iceland, two impressive sea stacks emerge from the terrain. These are the Lóndrangar formations, ancient volcanic basalt structures that soar up to 75 meters high. They are often described as a natural rocky castle along Iceland’s coast.
