#Alfred #Wegener (died November 1930 in Greenland) was a #German #geologist, #polarexplorer, and #meteorologist. He is primarily known for his #theory of #continentaldrift, which has significantly influenced modern theories of #platetectonics. I have been digging out my old copies of John McPhee's #books, dipping in, remembering what it was like to be a new #geologist, and how it has carried across into #spatial #data, #geomorphology, #geomorphometry, #hydrology, #landcover, #engineeringgeology, #environmentalscience, #landuse, #massmovement and so much more......
This one paragraph reminded me so strongly of that time,, although I cannot of course write as eloquently:

The first Director of the #Singapore #BotanicGarden, Henry single-handedly pioneered Malaya's #Rubber industry. He encouraged #Farmers to #Plant rubber #Trees & devised #Ingenious ways to #Tap for #Latex without harming the #Tree.

By 1920, #Malaya produced over half the world's rubber.

And to think it all started with #Seeds Henry collected from 22 #Plants...
