Daher: Hat jemand noch Tipps, was man ausprobieren sollte? Habt ihr "Selling points" für KDE? Vielleicht übersehe ich ja einfach was. 🙂

    This is a hilarious #Linux distribution + #DesktopEnvironment chooser #game 🤓

For my preferences, Debian/KDE won. Just the environment I'm currently working with. 👍

Finalists were Kubuntu (I've been using it for 15-20 years!) and Hyprland (which never crossed my path so far).

  12. I've been following the development of a new #DesktopEnvironment, and I gotta say…

Why is it.that as soon as someone makes something that's different, people swoop in and say "You have to add this feature so it works like #Gnome / #Plasma /Whateverthefuck"?

Like… let's take the Minimize button. Useful in Windows, but far from the only way to deal with setting stuff aside. #Niri handles it with Workspaces and Columns. Gnome (by default) handles it with Overview and Workspaces plus limited snapping. I like that about Gnome and Niri (with #Noctalia or #Dank added in, Niri's my favorite).

DEs work without minimize buttons. If someone's designing a #DE without it, and you need it, maybe you're not the target audience. Maybe it's designed for Owlbears.

And that's just one example. I dunno. It's obviously not a big deal and everyone's entitled to their opinion. It's just weird to me to insist that a DE needs something it was obviously designed to work without.

  17. I recently switched to #kdeplasma. I'm impressed! I even managed to get #Wayland working with my #Nvidia card (with the help of an #LLM). I stopped using KDE over 20 years ago, but it was my main #Linux desktop for years. It's the complete opposite of #Gnome or light DEs like #XFCE. I'm really enjoying it. It's refreshing to have a #desktopenvironment that doesn't treat me like I'm too stupid to deal with options. Anyway, KDE is really good!

  21. I feel that #GNOME efforts on mobile are wasted.

Probably my biggest argument to NOT donate to @gnome when you see resources wasted on that.

  30. You can choose one desktop for your collection of Linux and BSD computers, a mix of laptops and desktops. Your only choices are MATE or Xfce. All of your computers will use that same desktop.

Your computers are at most ten years old, and their operating systems are no more than a year old.

    What do you install?

Feel free to add nuance below.
