I’ve had a weird bug with my NixOS install lately (albeit it’s on an old version, updating would most likely fix) and I thought it could get worse

At first, it was just the tty entry spamming ‘username: ‘ multiple time after booting

Then, hyprlock started crashing when hypridle would kick in

And now, my central monitor doesn’t even come back from a hypridle trigger, it just stays inactive
Moving to another tty then back to the hyprland one fixes that issue, but that’s such a weird escalation

I’ll see to update tomorrow, let’s see if that fixes it or somehow makes it worse

I have always liked the look/feel of hyprland/quickshell implementations, but never had the patience to debug, configure and tweak them.

However, I decided to give it another try using OpenCode to set up my dot files and do the configuration (and debugging!)

For some people the configuration is the fun of hyprland, but I could never get into it. Outsourcing it to AI makes it a lot more enjoyable.

I switched from #neovim to #helix this weekend. This is less of a political move and more of a "jfc why does everything that DHH touches feel so icky all of a sudden".

Also ported from #hyprland to #niri but that's purely because I only ever use a scrolling layout, and I wanted a Rust-based WM.

@Purplegengar25 what people often refer to/mean when they say #Linux actually works well as a daily driver. It just doesn't have the market share, and sadly, the ones that come optimised and with a #linuxdistro pre-installed cost just as much as a MacBook Pro.

I'm not dissing Linux, I use #Hyprland over an Ubuntu server 26.04 minimal base with containerised apps via docker.

We just need the general public to better understand how easy Linux is to use.

Then it will for sure be our year!

Switched from Hyprland to Niri, and for how I like to work, Niri gives me a great balance between tiled, scrolling and floating windows.

For a developer that uses multiple desktops, Niri is as closest to sliced bread as anything I've seen in a long time.

Так кто же из них прав? Сначала приведу короткую информацию о дистрибутиве, аргументы обеих сторон, которые видел, и в конце приведу своё мнение по поводу полезности дистрибутива для сообщества. Сразу скажу - я не пробовал Omarchy, но настольным Linux пользуюсь больше 10 лет и вопросы, поднимаемые в этой дискуссии, не специфичны для дистрибутива, просто он спровоцировал новый виток их обсуждения.

Yes. So, when I got Hyprland going on FreeBSD, there was more to learn.
Decided to use ashell as a bar, rio-terminal, wezterm, nwg-drawer, walker or good ol' rofi, neovim, you name it🤣 Rust and lua.
The curious mind can be a burden, as well as a pleasure 😄
It'll take some more time, but everything is up and running. Having a great time!

Native gesture support on Hyprland has gotten so good. I still remember having to fiddle with Fusuma not too long ago. Keybinds can be cumbersome on laptop. Why not key "swipes" for core operations? #hyprland #linux

Been using #Linux as my daily driver for almost two years now. Still interact with #windows at work from time to time, could never go back to it for my own computer though!

People need to understand that it can break from time to time, especially when you're using a Linux distro with a rolling release. if you're looking for something stable, try #debian.

If you're looking for something more 'bleeding edge', I can't recommend #arch enough (obligatory 'I'm using arch btw'). You'll get

- a great wiki with plenty of details, tutorials and explanations
- a big user base
- a system that is customizable to your needs
- a system that lets you run up-to-date software

Don't expect smooth sailing though. you will learn a lot during installation and setup. things that 'just work' on windows, might need you to tinker/research a bit on Linux. Things will break with updates because software dependencies might break when using more recent and not-so-battletested software.

but it's a learning curve you wouldn't want to miss IMO. You'll need a weekend or so to set things up in an efficient way for you.

I recommend checking out the various Desktop Environments available and see which one appeals to you. Been using #gnome #kde #xfce #hyprland and switched to #niri recently. It's just so efficient and the work flow is perfect for my needs.

Вам не нужно вручную подключаться к вашему wifi, не нужно размечать и монтировать диски. А установку всех нужных именно вам пакетов за вас сделает сама система, нужно только подписать соглашение ... как же пользоваться Hyrpland и стоит ли делать свой Rice?

А установку всех нужных именно вам пакетов за вас сделает сама система, нужно только подписать соглашение ... как же пользоваться Hyrpland и стоит ли делать свой Rice?
