So far everything has been pretty ho-hum with the #AsahiLinux. The only thing to note is that #Floorp is having some graphical glitches on the home/search page.
Here is the obligitory #fastfetch that used to be in vogue... -
Apple Silicon MacBooks were not left behind. Fedora Asahi Remix 44 released to bring you totally up to date on Fedora! As with the editions, Plasma 6.6 and GNOME 50 are available, as well as some under the hood changes to switch to upstream packages.

I recently got Asahi Linux to work on my MacBook Air. And I’m really happy, you have no idea how happy and grateful I am for Linux.

😅 Wow, Asahi Linux is finally moving at the speed of molasses with their Linux 7.0 update! 🎉 After three years, they've managed to tweak their Rube Goldberg-esque installer—pat yourselves on the back for that glacial pace of progress! 🚀

@Tutanota
Do you have a desktop client that works for #arm64 #asahiLinux #FedoraRemix? -
But: my second Macbook Pro runs #Linux!

Fedora Asahi Remix 43 released this month! This brings:

* KDE Plasma 6.6
* GNONE 49If you haven't tried it yet, give it a shot!

I tried running #Linux on an #AppleSilicon #Mac and regretted it
#AsahiLinux is the best (and only) way to run Linux on a Mac
The thing about Apple silicon Macs is that it's not as simple as downloading an #AArch64 ISO of your favorite distro and installing it. Yes, the M-series chips are ARM-based, but that doesn't automatically make the whole system compatible in the same way most traditional x86 PCs are. Pretty much everything in modern MacBooks is custom.

#Fedora #Asahi Remix 43 Released For #AppleSilicon #Macs
#FedoraAsahiRemix 43 brings #Fedora43 to #Apple Silicon devices, which at the moment given the #Linux / #AsahiLinux level of support means older M1 and M2 Macs and MacBooks.
#FedoraAsahiRemix43 brings in all notable changes of Fedora 43 itself. New version also comes support for the Mac Pro, microphone support now working for M2 Pro and M2 Max MacBooks, and 120Hz refresh rate support for the MacBook Pro 14 and 16.

Apple announced a kind of budget laptop, the Mac Book Neo, für €699. Is it worth to buy and replace the sh1teOS with Fedora Asahi Remix or would it be smarter to buy from another hardware vendor and have the full spectrum of linux distro possibilities?

Any reason why @lina is blocking me?
I though she went under. Her videos on the Apple Silicon iGPU shenanigans with Linux were so good. :sadness:

UPDATE: The fix did not work, my BT audio is back to stutering, and I need to reboot my machine every time I connect or disconnect an external HDMI cable.
#asahilinux is a seriously amazing project and I love the dedication and hard work that's gone into it, but I'm afraid running it at my dayjob is not in the cards right now.
Time to slink back to MacOS and see how close I can get it to what I'm doing everywhere else with keybinds :P
If anyone else is having problems with #bluetooth #audio stuttering horribly on the latest #asahilinux - I applied this wireplumber fix and it cured my problems.
You can beat me up for using #Claude after you get your audio working again :)

I can't get #quickemu to work in #fedora #asahilinux, is this because I'm not smart or because it doesn't support ARM?
I have it running on an intel Ubuntu install.

Best Apple Photos replacement on Linux?
Must have: view photos based off geotags, view all photos chronologically (adding to the list cause somehow some of the options out there literally don’t do this), and the UI must not look like ass (looking at you DigiKam).
Nice to have: People detection, “Smart Albums” (as Apple calls them).
////
Also, any suggestions on importing photos from Photos to $newApp while preserving the photos marked as Favorites?

Asahi Linux #devs are valiantly #porting Linux to Apple's #M3, a chip so shiny and new, it practically emits a "nope" when approached by open-source devs 😂. Meanwhile, they've decided to sprinkle some #Rust on m1n1, because nothing says "we're not overwhelmed" like mixing up the tech stack just for fun 🤣.

Holy moly I just saw that on my new account they let me have up to 5000 characters for a single post.
This seems like a really bad idea because it's just possible I will use them from time to time. 5000 characters isn't a toot, it's a character assassination!

I'm a 55 year old white fella who survived childhood, got lucky in each of my careers and then married just the most wonderful woman in the world. Sometimes I feel super lucky, sometimes I feel super exhausted from just trying survive on this planet.
I have some geek skills. I am curious about the human brain, and how we fail to make good use of it. I am definitely on the divergent side of neuro, with a life-long speech impediment + ADHD. I used to think I was broken, but now I know better. I am what I am.

Intel hires developer who reverse engineered the Apple M1 GPU, bringing open source Linux graphics to Apple Silicon
When the Asahi Linux team released its first alpha version of a GNU/Linux-based operating system for Macs with Apple M-series processors in 2022, things were still pretty rough around the edges. Thunderbolt, Bluetooth, cameras, and sleep mode weren’t working yet. And neither was hardware-accelerated graphics.
That’s all changed over the past few years. Last fall the team even announced you […]

@ChuckUFarley @david6677 yes, #apple is making it more difficult with each new #hardware #iteration - they offer no documentation and all the #asahilinux Devs can do is attempt to #ReverseEngineer. Needless to say that it’s time consuming and near impossible.

I'll do benchmarks using my own
bzcatand comparing that with bzip2's originalbzcat. All running on an M1 laptop running Linux. The M1 CPU has both performance and efficiency cores. We'll run the benchmark on both, usinghyperfineto do the comparisons. 3/N -
Since @leandrofriedrich sadly didn't manage to finish his #postmarketOS ears last time, I secretly took on the idea, added "idiotic" modularity and took it to a next level. Now with #NixOS and #AsahiLinux support too! + optional AirPods Max support courtesy of @adafruit ❤️
p.s. ignore my sloppy work, this is the first time I'm doing something related to 3D printing
p.s. 2: I'm surprised that it survived my trains and flights all the way from Slovakia to #EuskalEncounter in Spain. -
Regular reminder for anyone who might have an Apple Silicon based Mac that Asahi Linux is a thing and a good thing. It's not just Intel Macs that can play nice with Linux.
I love my little M1 Macbook Air. It's great hardware and never gets overheated. But sometimes I need to play with Linux instead of MacOS.
Asahi installation was able to hive off a small partition during setup to dual-boot. It's very smooth and makes for a great desktop. I've got Firefox and LibreOffice and even Proton VPN running nice. It's ready for prime time.
Am sending this toot from Asahi Linux right now :)
