  1. (1/3) For the past three weeks or so, I've been experimenting with #niri for a little while every night.

Initially, I tried pairing it with #dms and #noctalia respectively, but I'd say neither is really geared towards the kind of minimalism, ergonomics, and consistency I'm used to coming from #gnome and I felt like dragged into a battle of overrides. 🫣

  2. I've been following the development of a new #DesktopEnvironment, and I gotta say…

Why is it.that as soon as someone makes something that's different, people swoop in and say "You have to add this feature so it works like #Gnome / #Plasma /Whateverthefuck"?

Like… let's take the Minimize button. Useful in Windows, but far from the only way to deal with setting stuff aside. #Niri handles it with Workspaces and Columns. Gnome (by default) handles it with Overview and Workspaces plus limited snapping. I like that about Gnome and Niri (with #Noctalia or #Dank added in, Niri's my favorite).

DEs work without minimize buttons. If someone's designing a #DE without it, and you need it, maybe you're not the target audience. Maybe it's designed for Owlbears.

And that's just one example. I dunno. It's obviously not a big deal and everyone's entitled to their opinion. It's just weird to me to insist that a DE needs something it was obviously designed to work without.
