  5. Me:

    * Spend like half an hour setting up my keyboard shortcuts on #MangoWC and #Noctalia on my Odyssey Linux install on my laptop

    * Realize that I've configured it to work exactly like my #Niri setup on my Desktop

    * Think about how every time I install #Plasma desktop, I immediately tweak the settings so that it works as close to #Gnome default as possible

    * Wonder why I bother trying new things.

    Also Me:

    * Oooo! The dev behind #vanilla_os has made a new DE! I should immediately check it out!

    ...

I might be a magpiebear instead of an owlbear.

  6. I've been following the development of a new #DesktopEnvironment, and I gotta say…

Why is it.that as soon as someone makes something that's different, people swoop in and say "You have to add this feature so it works like #Gnome / #Plasma /Whateverthefuck"?

Like… let's take the Minimize button. Useful in Windows, but far from the only way to deal with setting stuff aside. #Niri handles it with Workspaces and Columns. Gnome (by default) handles it with Overview and Workspaces plus limited snapping. I like that about Gnome and Niri (with #Noctalia or #Dank added in, Niri's my favorite).

DEs work without minimize buttons. If someone's designing a #DE without it, and you need it, maybe you're not the target audience. Maybe it's designed for Owlbears.

And that's just one example. I dunno. It's obviously not a big deal and everyone's entitled to their opinion. It's just weird to me to insist that a DE needs something it was obviously designed to work without.

  8. 🎉 Another "groundbreaking" release from the galaxy of niche OSes nobody asked for! 🎊 Enjoy the riveting #updates like 'Hyprland Noctalia' and the all-important 'GCC #branch #misprediction tuning'. 🚀 Because if your operating system doesn't predict branches, is it even computing? 🤡

  11. KaOS 2026.06 RC: التوزيعة المستقلة تتخلى عن systemd وتتبنى Dinit و Niri

  12. Getting my desktop set up on an old laptop while I navigate RMAing the SSD from my Framework, I figured I'd give #Noctalia's v5 alpha a go alongside my usual #Niri, since Quickshell might be a bit hard on this slightly more mature hardware. I've gotta say, it's _very_ nice and pretty snappy, even at such an early stage.

  14. Just found out about shell - now using it for my setup. Looks really nice (using the alpha v5), but one major thing is missing: Custom launcher options for usage in scripts - I still need to use for my custom selection menus :/

  16. Yeah, back to Fedora and Gnome. As nice as Cachy and Niri and Noctalia are, I just work too much with other RHEL systems daily to make this workflow change right now. It’s been a week and I’ve had so little time to even get basic things setup that just work out of the box in Fedora/gnome and elementaryOS/pantheon.

  20. Great news y'all !!!

Work on the #XeroLinux TUI has concluded. We have added better support for #BTRFS with snapper n and Grub-BTRFS pre-configured out the box.

We have also added option to install #Hyprland with the #Noctalia Shell slightly pre-configured for a good starting point.

  22. Stayed up too late installing #Niri and #Noctalia on my #Linux device.

    First impressions?

A lot of me saying: Neat… now what shortcut keys did I hit to make it do that.

  23. Who out there is using #Noctalia these days? Been hearing more about it but curious if anyone has any stories about their experiences with it. #Linux
