I've been following the development of a new #DesktopEnvironment, and I gotta say…

Why is it.that as soon as someone makes something that's different, people swoop in and say "You have to add this feature so it works like #Gnome / #Plasma /Whateverthefuck"?

Like… let's take the Minimize button. Useful in Windows, but far from the only way to deal with setting stuff aside. #Niri handles it with Workspaces and Columns. Gnome (by default) handles it with Overview and Workspaces plus limited snapping. I like that about Gnome and Niri (with #Noctalia or #Dank added in, Niri's my favorite).

DEs work without minimize buttons. If someone's designing a #DE without it, and you need it, maybe you're not the target audience. Maybe it's designed for Owlbears.

And that's just one example. I dunno. It's obviously not a big deal and everyone's entitled to their opinion. It's just weird to me to insist that a DE needs something it was obviously designed to work without.

🚀 CachyOS aduce o experiență Hyprland Noctalia rafinată în actualizarea din iunie! 🐧🎮

Echipa din spatele CachyOS – distribuția bazată pe Arch Linux recunoscută pentru optimizările sale de performanță și gaming – a lansat noul ISO pentru iunie 2026. Aceasta este a patra actualizare majoră din acest an și vine cu noutăți extrem de interesante atât la nivel vizual, cât și sub capotă.

Iată cele mai importante modificări din această versiune:
🔹 Hyprland Noctalia: Cea mai vizibilă noutate este introducerea opțiunii de desktop CachyOS Hyprland Noctalia direct în installer. Utilizatorii primesc acum și un video de previzualizare pentru a vedea cum arată interfața înainte de a finaliza instalarea.
🔹 Optimizări extreme de performanță: Python folosește acum optimizări extinse de tip PGO (Profile-Guided Optimization) pentru a rula sarcini de lucru mult mai rapid. De asemenea, a fost adăugat un patch GCC pentru optimizarea predicției ramificațiilor (branch misprediction), ajutând compilatorul să ruleze mai eficient pe procesoarele moderne Intel și AMD.
🔹 Securitate sporită în Pacman: Managerul de pachete izolează acum scripturile (scriptlets și hooks) de rețea, împiedicându-le să acceseze internetul în mod implicit în timpul instalării pachetelor.
🔹 Software de ultimă generație: Noua imagine vine cu nucleul customizat CachyOS Linux kernel 7.1, alături de KDE Plasma 6.7.1, KDE Frameworks 6.27, Qt 6.11 și Wayland activat nativ.
🔹 Schimbări în ecosistem: Utilitarul paru a fost eliminat, fiind înlocuit cu Shelly (un manager de pachete modern cu interfață grafică pentru sistemele bazate pe Arch). De asemenea, aplicația GNOME System Monitor a fost înlocuită cu Resources, iar aplicația de Welcome oferă acum suport pentru DNS-over-QUIC prin blocky.
🔹 Detecție hardware inteligentă: Instrumentul chwd a fost îmbunătățit pentru a rezolva conflictele de drivere pe sistemele multi-GPU (de exemplu, configurații mixte cu generații diferite de plăci video NVIDIA). CachyOS va alege automat cel mai bun driver comun sau va prioritiza placa grafică principală.

Actualizarea rezolvă, de asemenea, diverse bug-uri legate de timpii de oprire a serviciilor (timeout-uri reduse pentru a preveni blocajele la shutdown) și crash-uri ale aplicației de Welcome.

Dacă folosești deja CachyOS, nu trebuie să reinstalezi nimic; un simplu sudo pacman -Syu te trece direct la noua versiune!

Since I found out about #SteamOS session on #linux the shackles have been lifted off #KDE being my daily driver. Now I can finally go wild on my desktop with #twm like #niri. Also wanting to check backwith #labwc and #riverwm. #noctalia is also a nice addition on how to bride the gap.

Just found out about #noctalia shell - now using it for my #nixos #hyprland setup. Looks really nice (using the alpha v5), but one major thing is missing: Custom launcher options for usage in scripts - I still need to use #rofi for my custom selection menus :/

Решил что зачем мне лишние цвета, заменил всё на оттенки розового :blobCatAnon:
И жёлтый как акцентный цвет (ну типа :blobcatamongus: мне уже было просто в падлу эти hex цвета переписывать :pusheen_coffee:)

noch 1/2/3 mal schlafen, dann ist #gpn24 in #karlsruhe *jubel jubel froi froi* schnell noch #noctalia und #niri auf meinem #thinkpad rausschmeißen und durch #dwl und #dwlb ersetzen 😇 Mensch will ja was zum basteln und frickeln haben für die Tage 🔥 hab schon richtig Bock! gleich geht's nochmal schnell in den lokalen #hackspace in #marburg ein paar #c3cat Kadsenohren mitnehmen und morgen früh dann meetup mit dem #LOC und vielleicht ein bisschen #LKW fahren 😇 das wird ein Spaß.
