  8. Hot take that might not be that hot...

If you are a self-proclaimed teaching channel, you have the duty to do your due research.

Case in point, you do NOT tell people to use an alternative #SBC to the RPi whose OS was last updated mid-2025, is still running Debian 12, its vendor is stuck on Kernel 6.1, and the SBC has been unavailable anywhere (because thank you very much AI) when you post the video (today!).

And you don't even bother talking about #Armbian, which would remediate at least part of those issues, because let's face it, if it weren't for Armbian, most of the non-RPi SBCs would not have an even remotely proper OS support.

And lack of proper OS support will only lead to bad experiences for the users sooner or later.

    Do better.

  26. Now that I’ve successfully avoided FPGA-hell (thanks Quentin!) I used my copious free time to slide into GPIO-hell. I don’t have a screen or serial console at the moment on the Rock 4 SE, but whatever magic @armbian is trying to do in the fixup script to get 1Wire configured didn’t work here (see also github.com/MichaIng/DietPi/iss) and turned my GPIO4_D2 into "gpios = <0x8a 0x04 0x00 0xae>;” instead of “gpios = <0x1a 0x1a 0x00>;” that I need. Yay for handwritten DTSs!

  27. ok, so I installed ubuntu 24.04 from Joshua, because #armbian is not yet decently installable on my Orange pi 5b version.

armbian works as it should from an SD card but I have to tweak to have wifi, I CANNOT install armbian to EMMC within my orange pi, the emmc is visible only when inserting the sd card with the previous os(ubuntu) installed on emmc, but once you try to install on emmc it just disappear and never be shown again.

If they solve the #emmc install I'll put it on my #orangepi

  28. Funny thing about SBCs.. you never truly know what uboot and kernel combination is gonna be stable and stay online until you run it.

(I actually have this thing running in a colo 1000 miles from me--hence my hesitancy to update)
