As some of you already noticed #Ardour 9.8 has been out since last Wednesday.
But due to life and circumstances, release notes and download links, announcements, etc have only gone out today. The longest gap yet.
So get it while it's lukewarm :)

This release is good mix of new features, small improvements and bug fixes.
It is also the first version that can be natively built with MSVC using waf and xmake.

@rzeta0 I don't know anything about music/sound...
Have looked at this? https://ardour.org/

I just realized that an older track of mine fits perfectly for today:
Spotlight Kyd - Parta Eklipso
https://soundcloud.com/spotlight-kyd/parta-eklipso
I created this track using only free and open source plugins for my presentation at the #Sonoj Convention in October 2023.
You can also buy this track on BandCamp:

The #Ardour project of this track is available in this repository:

Arrrrrgh; I am getting crazy (or almost - I better simply go to bed now)
#Ardour 9.7
I want simply to split a stereo audio track into two mono tracks and pan each mono track hard left / hard right to have it again in stereo, just in separate tracks.
The most easy thing , right? RIGHT?
Well, except... its not.
All tutorials say, Region --> Edit --> Make Mono Regions
In Region View (good luck finding it, I finally did) then instantly the two mono clips appear, drag n drop 'em into your mono tracks.
NOPE! They do not appear. I can click and click and click and click and click on Select Stereo Clip (not the track btw.) with RMB - there is an edit option but with nothing interesting in the pulldown, but the pulldown also has again the name of the Clip, there is another pulldown level when choosing this with much more options, again with edit. The Edit pulldown (3rd level now) has the "Make Mono Regions" option, click it... nothing.
Again and again and again and again. Also from the Regions menu on top, also rightclicking the region in the region list view (there is evenutally the "Make Mono Regions" entry somewhere). No two mono clips. One stereo clip, that is all.
Checked those bloody lengthy 5 years old Youtube tutorials, really bad explained forum threads, its basically all the same. Select, edit, Make Mono Regions.
I could load the stereo track twice and pan it hard left and hard right, but I refuse to do that because it hurts thinking this way.
If anyone good with Ardour 9.7 knows what to do, I'd appreciate the hints :)
Sorry if I might appear slightly aggressive, it's just one hour without productivity wasted - that's the mood... I'll calm down eventually. :) -
DRM (digital rights management, or more appropriately, digital restrictions management) is ironically what introduced me to Linux-based operating systems in the first place. I was unhappy with the proprietary shit show and decided to look for an alternative. It was then that I found #ardour and I've been using it ever since. https://ardour.org/ #daw #digitalaudioworkstation #linux @ardour

@unfa Sojuzstudio on #ardour IRC reminded me that there is already a GUI for it:
https://github.com/huddx01/audiowmark-desktop
Looks like it has a database for keys as well. Go figure!

🧵 … but anyways, always make sure to have #Ardour with you for some multitrack recording… via #Dante Virtual Soundcard (DVS), this time… Dante Controller took almost 50% of the CPU of this old #MacBookPro 2017. Due to some unforeseeable changes I had to switch DVS to 32 channel mode in order to record 19 channels.
I'd feel much safer with my #RME #Digiface Dante setup running with a #MacMiniM1 (and Ardour), but budget-wise not even a MacBook Pro 2017 is properly paid on this gig.

We want to use the recordings as a pre-production that we can give to any studio where'd we'd like to record a possible full length so that they get an impression of what we do and what we sound like.
The first track that is more or less finished is Working Drone, our denunciation of corporate culture. Here it is. Recorded, mixed and mastered with #Ardour on #Debian #Linux with #FOSS plugins only.

I spent the afternoon fixing #ardour to correctly convert sessions that were created with Ardour 2.x in 2006.
A user found a nice forgotten song. Ardour 9.7 loaded the session, but external sends to busses were not connected. Fixed now in in Ardour 9.7.120.
If you also find some Ardour jewels on some old backup disk, and they don't correctly load, you know what to do: We strife for backwards compatibility. So file a bug report!

A little "Lunatics!" 2026 status update:
This has been a long, hard road -- over a decade, in fact, with many bumps, side excursions, and detail that will require several chapters in a book I plan to write to actually explain, but...
:ani_dab_r: ANIMATION ON EPISODE ONE IS FINISHED! :ani_dab_l:
:smug_dance:
I AM NOW TRANSFORMED INTO A "SOUND GUY".
:ab1nzyblob2::kermit_shout::microphone::audacity::freesound::archive:
At least for awhile.
