I'm not usually a video guy (I mostly edit photos as well as some light audio clips from time to time) so I'm probably not used to it, but... it feels so difficult to get #video editing rolling on #Linux with an acceptable level of performance.
#Blender has no h/w video decode/encode whatsoever as far as I could tell. #Kdenlive has video encode but not decode. #Openshot supposedly has video encode/decode but I could never catch it using the GPU at all (and audio doesn't work).
I'm probably going to try DaVinci next ; otherwise Blender VSE with proxies seems like an acceptable choice.

Ten days ago, my daughter & I almost got into an argument because she claimed that there wasn't any video editing software for linux. She said she had searched, I almost called her a liar because this was a rehash of a previous conversation and I had searched and found numerous types of video editing software. We've been watching Knight Rider recently and although I have lots of critiques about the show, KITT rocks. She finished this video today.

I just began using Openshot. It's a familiar video editing workspace, a lot like iMovie, but no data bloat. I'm on a new win11 pro setup with 32gb ram. It's sweet, easy to use, very logical and quick. Lots of export format options. I was intending to get Resolve but for the time being I'm happy with this for my needs. Resolve will have to wait! It's now added to my donation list.

Wenn dann liebäugle ich mit CAD option, obwohl eigentlich erst mal @FreeCAD dran ist.Das #iDenTheater Projekt ist Teil des @studi0 Forums.
Das Forum selber hat zum Ziel audioviuelles #learningByDoing plus Kooperation durch benutzen der gleichen Programme im #fediVerse zu initiieren und zu fördern.Der link mit der media.tupambae.org Projektseite (Projekt CC-BY-SA-NC: Simple-html Sites and pages) ist das Endergebnis. Wenn du dir das ganz durchliest wirst du sehen das du im Prinzip das gesamte Projekt als ZIP Archive runter laden kannst und direkt in KDEnlive öffnen könntest um es zu verändern.

Samstag - was gestern angefangen wurde, muss heute beendet werden. Also stehe ich ziemlich früh auf, damit ich gemütlich den Tag beginnen kann. Ein bisschen Musik, dann ist auch schon die Familie da zum Frühstücken. Danach muss der ganze Krempel, den mein Vater und ich noch aus der alten Wohnung geholt haben, aus dem Auto raus. Ein paar Kisten schleppen, ein paar Bilder jonglieren - es ist nicht mehr viel, was da noch aus der Wohnung kam. Zur Belohnung besuchen meine beste Ehefrau von allen und ich danach den Bücherdealer unseres Vertrauens. Ich finde einen historischen Roman und drei Comics für mich. Das Regal ist eigentlich schon voll, aber... Wie dem auch sei, der Alltag holt uns ein mit Hausarbeit, einem störrischen Staubsauger und verführerischen Düften in der Küche. Das Mittagessen ist ein Highlight: Spätzle mit Spitzkohl und Huhn, in einer feinen Sahnesoße. Ich könnte drin baden!
Der Nachmittag gehört den Hobbys. Meine beste steht an der Staffelei, während ich mich mit meinen Bildern und Platten beschäftige. Filmclips mit #openshot zu basteln ist gar nicht so einfach, macht aber Laune!
#amEndedesTages dreht sich erstmal der Plattenteller noch einmal, und dann steckt die Nase wieder im Buch. Es neigt sich dem Ende zu, und im Regal stehen noch so viele Bücher, die gelesen werden wollen. Und weil heute #worldwhiskyday ist (hab ich gelesen), gibt es auch ein wenig flüssiges Sonnenlicht dazu.
Morgen hoffe ich auf besseres Wetter, denn wir wollen den Hafen besuchen. Vielleicht hab ich Gelegenheit, einige alte Segler vorteilhaft auf die Speicherkarte zu bannen. -
Samstag - so mag ich mein Wochenende! Genüsslich ausschlafen (was eine knappe Stunde mehr Schlaf bedeutet), gemütlich frühstücken (was ein knappes Kilo mehr Hüfte bedeutet), nahtlos übergehen in ein oppulentes Mittagessen (was einen erheblich runderen Bauch bedeutet). Der Nachmittag gehört dann der schweren Arbeit der Verdauung und der multimedialen Beschäftigung. Mit Handy, Gimbal und viel Enthusiasmus erstelle ich kleine Clips mit Schallplatten, alten Tapetenbürsten und einem noch nicht so alten Plattenspieler. Es ist gar nicht so einfach, die Hände ruhig genug zu halten, dass der Zuschauer nicht zur Kotztüte greift!
Das Zusammenstellen der Clips in #Openshot und #audacity ist auch nicht gerade einfach, macht aber Spaß. Und am Ende steht ein nicht unbedingt perfekter, aber ganz netter Clip, mit dem ich meine Scheiben vorstellen kann. Für heute mag es genug sein. Aber ich denke mir da noch was aus!
#amEndedesTages lesen wir noch ein paar Zeilen im Licht der untergehenden Sonne, pflegen unsere kleinen, runden Bäuche und genießen das Bewusstsein, morgen noch einmal ausschlafen zu können.
Morgen gibt es nur einen Plan: Essen - dieses mal bei den Schwiegereltern. Das wird reichlich und lustig! -

Just stumbled upon OpenShot video editor, and I would describe it as free, clean, poweful, fast, and highly intuitive.
A few short video tutorials and you'll be ready to do what you've indicated you want to accomplish, FeloniousPunk.
(Versions available for all the popular operating systems. I'm on Linux.)
Also, there are lots of video tutorials available, so don't waste any time on ones that clearly aren't helping.
Justin Brown is an Aussie dude who's tutes I'd highly recommend.
