Annoyance-driven development:
A practice where you fix bugs once they've annoyed you one too many times.
Or in other words, I just "fixed" a really annoying bug in #GNOME #Papers that would have cost me more time if I had to work around it each time I encountered it and that has been bothering me for many months.

So I have been asked surprisingly a lot lately about #gnome extensions and which I recommend newcomers. The honestly I recommend none. Even on #ubuntu.
I recommend that you remove all extensions and try to use Gnome as is for the first month maybe even two.
Instead take the Gnome Tour, learn Gnome. Then if you think you need any extensions after a month or so you can add them back. After years and years running with very few extensions

#GTK & #libadwaita on #Linux (setup) is as simple as typing some commands.
Since you don't want IDEs and want something simple, I wouldn't recommend #GNOME Builder.
Gtk apps can run on Windows, but the process is quite a hassle. I recommend you use "gvsbuild" since I also use it.
Since I'm using Python, I had to setup "pyinstaller" (again a hassle for the first time). If Python, use "uv".

So much for '#SystemD is not a monolith' guilt tripping. It's modular in theory alone. #Flatpak is the next critical software to introduce a hard dependency on systemd, after #Gnome. Those of us using #Runit, #OpenRC, #GNUShepherd etc are looking at a situation similar to #elogind.
What's common among them? A corporate #OpenSource ecosystem that only they can maintain. Meanwhile, those who question this are treated with contempt!

GNOME Calendar 51 will be able to recognize Microsoft Teams meetings links in events, surfacing them with a convenient "Join" button (instead of gibberish) like other videoconferencing systems known to us: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-calendar/-/work_items/1312
Daily-drive the nightly flatpak like all the cool kids and you'll be able to immediately hop onto calls to circle back and synergize with your clients or colleagues who use this… thing :blobmiou:
