How do I troubleshoot a black screen on #KDE #Plasma? I am able to launch apps just fine, but:
- the desktop is all black (no start menu, global menu etc, and the desktop background isn't getting rendered)
- the window decorations are HUGE.

Is there any easy way to debug this? I had initially suspected this was due to my using #Stylix on stock #archlinux, but no, disabling it didn't change a thing (apart from the theme).

I do have custom desktop effects and window decorations installed; so I suspect that might be the issue. How do I disable them if systemsettings does not launch (for some weird reason)?


It's definitely not a kernel issue (I've tried on the stock Arch kernel and the CachyOS kernel), and it certainly isn't a graphics issue (stock mesa etc, and I don't have a dGPU on this machine).

Has anyone able to change a font on #krita 6.0.1? Before, I couldn't open the dropdown menu. Now I can see my fonts, but cannot change the font of the text by selecting any of the fonts.

Does anybody know of a good way to tell KDE applications "no, I do not want dark mode theme" when you're not using KDE? Preferably without having to actually install all of Plasma just to get the configuration bits.

(I use Konsole and Dolphin with niri, currently on CachyOS with the Noctalia desktop shell. It's set to light mode, but KDE apps are ignoring that, apparently.)

UPDATE: I have _sort of_ solved this by adding the "Window Color Scheme" button to the toolbars of Dolphin and Konsole, then toggling each to light mode.

So... this works OK, but I'm reasonably sure there's got to be an environment variable or something I can toggle that tells _all_ KDE/Plasma apps that they should be in light mode and not dark mode since they're not picking up whatever niri/Noctalia are putting down.

Searching has not yielded any complete list / reference for all valid Plasma/KDE variables.

Pues así quedaría el escritorio y Firefox. He puesto el panel a la izquierda y el panel de pestañas minimizado a la derecha para que así haya más espacio central. Abajo a la izquierda está la bandeja del sistema con el reloj, un panel que se oculta automáticamente cuando una ventana lo cubre. Las notificaciones también aparecen ahí, que para mí es el "lugar natural" donde buscarlas. A priori me parece una configuración óptima.

Ich hatte schon hässlichere Desktops. 🙃

Hauptgrund für Plasma für mich: Vernünftige Skalierung und gutes Fontrendering unter Wayland (das ich nicht leiden kann).

What is there to prevent an upgrade from performing unwanted removals when, for example, a port such as x11/kde is not packaged?
