  2. Okaaay, survived the first day, here is the summary:

    - Got 2 incoming calls with working audio
    - Emergency cell broadcast worked
    - Browsing with 4G and Firefox very nice
    - Chatty did not sync Matrix messages from 4G, only wifi
    - Had to do one hard reboot because the login screen malfunctioned
    - Battery duration was approx. 12h with medium usage
    - Pretty nice handwarmer, though

  3. cell broadcast works on #postmarketos (didn't expect that, but good to know as I started daily driving it on my personal phone half a year ago)

  4. I recently got an #AppleWatch to help improve my sleep quality. I've also been wearing it on daily walks, and when meeting people.

    But with the news that Apple Watch is becoming a creeper device, I don't want to appear to endorse that, nor be insensitive, by wearing it around others.

    So the Apple Watch is staying at home now

    And I'm feeling more urge to move from #iPhone, to a more privacy-respecting device. Probably back to #GrapheneOS. But viable #PostmarketOS with #Phosh would be nice.

  5. GrapheneOS is slop, blah blah blah... i know, i'd like to do something about it

    codeberg.org/posthardenedOS specifically this, it's supposed to be postmarketOS (duranium) but hardened

    the issue is that the project has barely started and i dropped it for now

    i'm mediocre at cybersec at best and would need some help with the project (i.e. port linux-hardened, make SELinux policies, sandboxing, systems hardenings, etc.) just to keep the project rolling as i feel i'm not enough to get this job done properly

    anybody interested? pls contact

  6. I worked on improving my #Blokus app Pentobi (pentobi.sourceforge.io) to support #postmarketOS better. It should now work a lot better on both #Phosh and #PlasmaMobile. The new version will be released on Flathub once Debian/Sid made the transition to Qt 6.11 (hopefully in a few weeks)..

  7. @linmob Seeing all the progress from TheMightyCat kind of pisses me off. They Vibe-mainline everything with AI and don't do it correctly. I've only looked at sensors but there they use bit-banged i2c to talk to the sensors directly instead of using the SLPI coprocessor which is made for this and already has mainline infrastructure.

    PostmarketOS has a AI policy that explicitly forbids it so these changes won't be merged and it just kinda sucks seeing someone build a vibe-coded project ontop.

  8. 📸 Wow, rejoice! The Fairphone 6 now boasts a "working" main camera on PostmarketOS—because nothing screams innovation like finally catching up to 2010's camera quality standards! 😂 But hey, at least they're acknowledging the graininess; maybe one day they'll discover the magic of JPEG alternatives! 📷✨

  10. Question of the day.

    If I flash an older mobile ROM with something like PostmarketOS, am I also going to lose existing files in the storage system i.e. photos?

    #mobileLinux #postmarketOS #plasmaMobile

  11. I wish there was a crowdfunding campaign somewhere to get a reasonably modern phone up and running reliably with real Linux.

    I'm talking something with PostmarketOS / Mobian + Phosh/Plasma Mobile / Gnome Mobile and the basics made reliable:
    * wifi
    * mobile data
    * calls
    * suspend/wake
    * camera

    Maybe make Waydroid integration a stretch goal, but not a core requirement.

    I would gladly throw a bunch of money at something with the promise to get the basics to work reliably.

    Maybe the issue isn't money, but it sure seems like pooling funding for some of the highly talented people working in the space couldn't hurt.

    Anyone know of anything like this?

  12. Hello everyone after a long time! Hope you're all doing great, I've missed this community :)

    My internet is finally back to a relatively stable state, which means I can jump back into my old passion projects!

    I recently saw that a native ARM64 beta port of the Steam client was released, and I knew it was the perfect time to test it on my Linux phone.

    I'm currently running #postmarketOS with #PlasmaMobile on my PocoPhone F1. Since pmOS is based on Alpine, it uses musl libc, which doesn't support running these binaries natively. To bypass this, I set up an Ubuntu 24.04 #Distrobox container and installed the ARM64 Steam client along with box64 and box86. The process wasn't as straightforward as some guides suggest (like the one below); I had to do some extra tweaking. I'll definitely write a detailed blog post or a postmarketOS wiki entry about it soon!

    🔗 interfacinglinux.com/community

    I managed to boot Steam into Big Picture mode and went straight to setting up Proton.

    Note: The Proton 11 ARM64 mentioned in the link didn't work for me, so I used Proton Experimental instead.

    I paired my PS4 controller via Bluetooth, and it worked flawlessly out of the box! For the gaming test, I downloaded Crab Game (kept it lightweight due to my strict data limits).

    Against all odds, it actually launched! Running via Proton Experimental + Box64/86 inside Distrobox on my phone, I managed to get a relatively playable 20-30 FPS. Linux mobile gaming is getting wild! 🐧🎮

  14. Reading a bit on #PostmarketOS, #PlasmaMobile, #Halium etc.

    There are lots of pieces in that puzzle, and I'm not likely to spring for the PinePhone hardware. But PlasmaM may be a viable option for a side project – I could pick away at it to vent frustrations with Android. I even see one of my old phones mentioned - the MotoG6 on which some have had some porting success.

    (GrapheneOS sounds nice, but it's all Google Pixel hardware :frownyFace )

  17. Lilbits: Lenovo’s rollable laptop screens, LibreOffice simplifies naming, postmarketOS 25.12 released

    Display makers have been showing of rollable screens for years, but this year Lenovo was the first company to actual bring a laptop with a rollable screen to market with the launch of the Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 6, featuring a 14 inch display that can extend upward to become a 16.7 inch screen with 50% more screen space.

    Rumor has is that Lenovo will double down on rollables during CES in […]

  18. Lilbits: Raspberry Pi hikes prices due to rising RAM costs, Netflix ends (most) Google Cast support, and MyArcade launches two Sonic the Hedgehog-themed game systems

    With tech companies investing heavily in building out the infrastructure for AI systems that you may or may not have asked for, prices for certain PC components have shot through the roof as manufacturers struggle to keep up with demand. GPUs were the first casualty, and now RAM and SSDs are seeing major price hikes as well.

    While that’s most likely to take a toll on your wallet if you’re […]

  19. @Luigi311 There is also maui-shell that uses the from the developers of .
    I tried it 3 Years ago and found it really interesting.

    There is a feature branch for that one can try. But the branch has not seen any updates since 3 Years.
    Also the development of maui-shell seems to have slown down. As it has not seen any changes in the last 7 months.

  20. @ati1 @linmob Depends what the user wants from a personal device, how they use it and what their priorities are. If someone's priorities are a modern camera, running proprietary Android apps and their money is held hostage by banks requiring #Duopoly apps, they should check back later, perhaps when the Librem 5 "Fir" model is released.

    On the other hand, if #FreeSoftware, #privacy, #modularity, #repairability, #ecofriendliness, #decentralisation, #digitalindependence, etc. are valued above other things, the Librem 5 and the higher-spec model, the #LibertyPhone, can absolutely work in 2025 and beyond.

    I am daily driving a #Librem5 with #postmarketOS and everything important to me works: VoLTE calls and SMS (although I avoid them due to #SaltTyphoon), 4G data, Wi-Fi, camera with OK quality photos (see: #ShotOnLibrem5), GPS with #PureMaps, web browsing with #FirefoxESR, web apps (including banking) using #GNOMEWeb and #BraveBrowser, email using #Geary and #DeltaChat, audio calls on #SignalMessenger, #Matrix ( #ElementMessenger), #XMPP ( #DinoIM), #JitsiMeet, etc.

    There are occasional bugs and quirks, and the device itself has limitations but nothing that I can't work around.

    Not sure if I missed anything. Let me know if you have a specific use case that you absolutely require and I'll see if I can test...

  21. CW: mobile-config-firefox, happiness, alpine

    @linmob This was unexpected for me, ancient Debian Bullseye-based #PureOS Byzantium getting the latest #FirefoxESR long before comparatively bleeding-edge Alpine-based #postmarketOS. I've been checking it's packaging status in #Alpine 3.22 every few days!

  22. Lilbits: Europe’s new Ecodesign rules for smartphones and tablets, Samsung’s new Exynos 2500 processor, and postmarketOS 25.06

    The European Union’s Ecodesign rules for smartphones and tablets took effect on June 20th, which means that devices in those categories will need to meet certain repairability, upgradeability, battery life, and software update requirements. Some critics say the rules don’t go far enough, but we’re already starting to see some device makers announce updates in order to meet the new […]
