I recently bought a #oneplus6 and successfully installed #postmarketos on it. However, the phone died a few hours later (black screen, responding only to EDL commands), and I couldn't reset it, even with MSM Download Tool. I managed to flash Android back but it won't restart. Do you think it's an error related to my installation or just bad luck ? I really want to try #mobilelinux, so should I buy another OnePlus 6 or 6T and try again ?

For people who still maintain digital music collections: what do you use to manage your music collection and get either all of a subset of it onto your mobile device of choice? I'm particularly interested in iOS-compatible options that don't require a Mac, or solutions that help motivate dogfooding a #PostmarketOS solution.

Okaaay, survived the first day, here is the summary:

- Got 2 incoming calls with working audio
- Emergency cell broadcast worked
- Browsing with 4G and Firefox very nice
- Chatty did not sync Matrix messages from 4G, only wifi
- Had to do one hard reboot because the login screen malfunctioned
- Battery duration was approx. 12h with medium usage
- Pretty nice handwarmer, though

I recently got an #AppleWatch to help improve my sleep quality. I've also been wearing it on daily walks, and when meeting people.

But with the news that Apple Watch is becoming a creeper device, I don't want to appear to endorse that, nor be insensitive, by wearing it around others.

So the Apple Watch is staying at home now

And I'm feeling more urge to move from #iPhone, to a more privacy-respecting device. Probably back to #GrapheneOS. But viable #PostmarketOS with #Phosh would be nice.

I'm thinking about offering some informal mentoring to someone who wants to get into #postmarketOS development (packaging, #duranium) or other projects I'm heavily involved with. I've been contributing to pmOS for a while, and I'm happy to help someone get unstuck. In return I'd ask for patience (I make mistakes and I don't have infinite time), and some self-motivation and comfort with Linux, the command line, and git. Would anyone be interested in this?

I wish there was a crowdfunding campaign somewhere to get a reasonably modern phone up and running reliably with real Linux.

I'm talking something with PostmarketOS / Mobian + Phosh/Plasma Mobile / Gnome Mobile and the basics made reliable:
* wifi
* mobile data
* calls
* suspend/wake
* camera

Maybe make Waydroid integration a stretch goal, but not a core requirement.

I would gladly throw a bunch of money at something with the promise to get the basics to work reliably.

Maybe the issue isn't money, but it sure seems like pooling funding for some of the highly talented people working in the space couldn't hurt.

Anyone know of anything like this?

This took me quite a bit of time, but I managed to boot postmarketOS on a currently unsupported devboard (commonly available for €25-30 where I live).

Little bit proud, but it's not a proper port yet, I ripped the kernel and other parts of the pre-init bootchain (fip.bin, u-boot, ...) from a pre-made Debian image for that device. I have a (mostly working) APKBUILD for that device's userland though. :)

EDIT: I was able to resolve this by switching my icon theme to hicolor, then back to adwaita via gnome tweaks.

Finally got around to replace #GnomeMobile with #Phosh on my OnePlus 6T with #postmarketOS. Thanks to @agx and @linuxmobile for the hints. I expected to just add the postmarketos-ui-phosh package but it complained about some conflicts. I had to manually del some postmarketos-ui-gnome-mobile packages and dependencies before I could add phosh.

While doing this I also did a postmarketos-release-upgrade. It's not really end user friendly at the moment but I consider pmOS still in development. After the reboot, I encountered a "Qualcomm Crashdump Mode" message for the first time in my life. A little disturbing, tbh, but after resetting the phone booted into tinydm+phosh as planned.

While GNOME Mobile isn't bad on a small screen, phosh is a little bit more optimized. I could imagine to give GNOME Mobile another try on my Mi Pad 5.

Linux mobile people, you can make decent screen recordings with Kooha. So share some videos, and let's demonstrate how amazing Linux smartphones are! Settings that work best for me on OnePlus 6t are mp4 + 30fps. #postmarketos #gnomemobile #mobilelinux

9 personnes se réunissent pour cette première expérimentation. Nous avons plusieurs smartphones volontaires.

Laurent de @yauternet nous fait une présentation de l'état de l'art de #Linux sur #smartphone.

Nous nous lançons ensuite dans les installations.

Bilan: 1 téléphone qui démarre sous #UBports (anciennement Ubuntu touch), 2 téléphones qui progressent vers #postmarketos.

Et qui ont fini par démarrer avec le nouveau système après encore quelques travaux.

Très enrichissant à refaire.
