I recently bought a #oneplus6 and successfully installed #postmarketos on it. However, the phone died a few hours later (black screen, responding only to EDL commands), and I couldn't reset it, even with MSM Download Tool. I managed to flash Android back but it won't restart. Do you think it's an error related to my installation or just bad luck ? I really want to try #mobilelinux, so should I buy another OnePlus 6 or 6T and try again ?

For people who still maintain digital music collections: what do you use to manage your music collection and get either all of a subset of it onto your mobile device of choice? I'm particularly interested in iOS-compatible options that don't require a Mac, or solutions that help motivate dogfooding a #PostmarketOS solution.

seems like i overstated things a bit :/

existing installs don’t switch to u-boot and systemd-boot. when i flashed an img that had this, chainloading didnt work, but upgrading via apk does because it retains prior configuration

u-boot version: stuck until dd/fresh install

there is some talk regarding fwupd and partitions but that’d require another fresh install to get u-boot auto updating

a fresh install will likely prevent future problems

just tried two different update methods (apk upgrade and fresh install) and it seems like only fresh install is using u-boot and systemd-boot whereas apk upgrade installs u-boot during upgrade, but doesnt actually use it?

maybe because resizing is not a safe operation on an existing install?

unsure if this will become problematic later on

edit: im just getting confused now. seems like tow-boot can chainload uboot? time for a break…

edit: hmm… updated and it seems like tow-boot is fine? strange… maybe updating via apk preserves existing boot method?

The funny thing is that the battery of my Palm actually lasts longer than the PinePhone Pro battery, despite of the form factor.

This #ptyxis terminal looks pretty sweet. I installed it on my #PostmarketOS box, but it was kind of heavy for such a low-power machine. It also didn't seem to come with a fraction of the colour schemes I would want to use and I don't have time to roll them by hand.

But the #podman integration was pretty sweet!

so, i switched from spotify to #qobuz... for reasons... now i own a #hifi device (albeit entry level). for the price, the #hiby #m300 is pretty solid with my #koss #portapro headphones. especially since i've had my porta pros for like 3 or 4 years.

i'm all in bro

Daily driving a Pixel 3a while on a three week holiday wrap-up

Picked up an old #Nokia #N900 for cheap, turned out to the micro USB port was broken.

So I had the opportunity to learn SMD soldering. Both harder and easier than expected, does require proper tools.

The plan was to install #PostmarketOS or #maemoleste and use it as a portable mini-computer.

Might still try but I kind of remembered why I don't play around with Linux on old hardware...

It takes too much time and I have too many other things I want to do, and in the end there is always compromises when working on old undocumented hardware.

But it's type II fun so I always come back to it after :-)

@colm @alyn @JulianOliver @postmarketOS #postmarketOS won't magically make providers support 3G again but it can definitely bring it back to life if you'd like to use it PDA-style (wifi only). Otherwise I can recommend #MaemoLeste, it even ships with the original UI!

I thought only FairPhone made repairable phones, but HMD does too. They don't do everything that makes FairPhone great, but they're definitely worth consideration.

One problem: only 3 years of updates. 7 years of part availability can't fix that.

Maybe @LineageOS, @e_mydata, or @postmarketOS will support it.
