Okaaay, survived the first day, here is the summary:

- Got 2 incoming calls with working audio
- Emergency cell broadcast worked
- Browsing with 4G and Firefox very nice
- Chatty did not sync Matrix messages from 4G, only wifi
- Had to do one hard reboot because the login screen malfunctioned
- Battery duration was approx. 12h with medium usage
- Pretty nice handwarmer, though

I recently got an #AppleWatch to help improve my sleep quality. I've also been wearing it on daily walks, and when meeting people.

But with the news that Apple Watch is becoming a creeper device, I don't want to appear to endorse that, nor be insensitive, by wearing it around others.

So the Apple Watch is staying at home now

And I'm feeling more urge to move from #iPhone, to a more privacy-respecting device. Probably back to #GrapheneOS. But viable #PostmarketOS with #Phosh would be nice.

I dislike Android and Samsung only makes it tolerable. At least the version I'm on. I don't know what I'm going to do when I decide to move to a new phone. Hopefully Linux on phones is far enough along for my needs and pmOS Duranium is stable enough by that point. Not going to get a newer iPhone because they're all gesture-based now and I prefer the surety of a button press.

I've followed an article to setup #docker on #PostmarketOS on #oneplus6t but I can't start Docker like stated.

The error message when running "sudo systemctl start docker" is just simply
"Failed to start Docker Application Container Engine."

Any idea how to solve this?

Today I tested navigation on #OnePlus6t with #postmarketOS and #PureMaps.

The start wasn't promising. It took about 2 minutes for the device to pinpoint my location via GPS.

After that slow start, it was smooth sailing. GPS tracking was very precise and comparable to OsmAnd. Although while stationary the GPS isn't the most accurate, I can confirm that once moving, navigation works perfectly.

@privacyguides I think #LinuxMobile is the only real path forward for freedom.

Instead of hoping in #Google, it would be better in the long run if concerned users rallied behind #Linux options (mainline or #Halium-based), and there are quite a few now, existing and upcoming.

@senderolinux Thank for that info. I don't actually use unencrypted voice calls, just need 4G. The real issue is the carrier kicking your device off the network where 3G is disabled. @ati1 @linmob Depends what the user wants from a personal device, how they use it and what their priorities are. If someone's priorities are a modern camera, running proprietary Android apps and their money is held hostage by banks requiring #Duopoly apps, they should check back later, perhaps when the Librem 5 "Fir" model is released.

On the other hand, if #FreeSoftware, #privacy, #modularity, #repairability, #ecofriendliness, #decentralisation, #digitalindependence, etc. are valued above other things, the Librem 5 and the higher-spec model, the #LibertyPhone, can absolutely work in 2025 and beyond.

I am daily driving a #Librem5 with #postmarketOS and everything important to me works: VoLTE calls and SMS (although I avoid them due to #SaltTyphoon), 4G data, Wi-Fi, camera with OK quality photos (see: #ShotOnLibrem5), GPS with #PureMaps, web browsing with #FirefoxESR, web apps (including banking) using #GNOMEWeb and #BraveBrowser, email using #Geary and #DeltaChat, audio calls on #SignalMessenger, #Matrix ( #ElementMessenger), #XMPP ( #DinoIM), #JitsiMeet, etc.

There are occasional bugs and quirks, and the device itself has limitations but nothing that I can't work around.

Not sure if I missed anything. Let me know if you have a specific use case that you absolutely require and I'll see if I can test...

Here's the rubbish photo I took to test the camera app in postmarketOS running on a OnePlus 6T. The hardware is definitely capable of better. Reminded me of the early days of analogue colour photography. Not to be mean about PMOS, as I expect that in time it will get much better, although perhaps too slowly to be much use to this old phone.

On the upside, logging on to Mastodon via Firefox has been as easy as it should be.

I've been wanting to try out postmarketOS on my old phone (a OnePlus 6T) for a while now, but kept putting it off because I expected it would require a lot of time and fiddling. It didn't! Breakfast experiment was to flash PMOS, using the UBports installer. This was very quick and easy, although turned out not to be the best way to do it. (1/n)
