Facebook/Messenger – Facebook stopniowo zamieniam na Mastodona, ale znajomi jeszcze tam są, więc Messenger niestety pozostaje
Przeglądarki – zarówno Quiche jak i Brave to WebKit pod spodem, ale przynajmniej Quiche jest transparentny

Dodatkowa warstwa ochrony: Wszystkie aplikacje mają wyłączone śledzenie, dostęp do lokalizacji i Siri. Dodatkowo używam NextDNS do filtrowania na poziomie DNS.

To nie jest idealne, ale każdy krok w kierunku privacy ma znaczenie. Kompromisy są nieuniknione na iOS, ale świadomy wybór i wiele warstw ochrony to rzeczywiście robi różnicę.

Even running many Android apps with #Fdroid and #Obtainium work via #Waydroid although I tested that on #PureOS, not #postmarketOS.

1. Getting a device that simply does not have #Whatsapp / proprietary messaging apps, i.e.: #Linuxmobile: #Flx1, #LibertyPhone, #Librem5, #Jolla2c, etc. People typically won't care enough about #privacy but they will understand if WA simply does not work on your phone.

2. Kids: They don't have phone numbers (or phones in many cases) but want to be included in family group chats. Once kids got in on it, #DeltaChat spread like wildfire among our extended family, relatives, inlaws and friends. Even a kid with #downsyndrome onboarded their grandpa in seconds while I had earlier struggled to get him on #Signal!

A great thing about Delta Chat is that, unlike #ElementMessenger and other fully-featured #Matrix clients, there's no search and discovery feature so kids do not stumble upon untrusted groups and strangers' profiles.

Was excited about this project/company but just an FYI for others following the #LinuxMobile space, #Furilabs founder's position on #FOSS in his own words:
"i don't really care about stuff being foss"
Caring about stuff working and having a FOSS-only or a FOSS-first approach are not mutually exclusive, of course. Still hopeful though that they will benefit the ecosystem.

My goal for 2024 is to get 12 people to switch to an open source thermostat!

It doesn't even have to be one I built, or even a #HestiaPi for that matter, it could be some #DIY solution.

That's an average of 1 per month. I think more people would be interested if they only knew about it.

Open tech, be afraid. Be very afraid. Microsoft owns both Visual Studio Code “VSCode” and MS-GitHub, two intertwined and utterly proprietary product-service ecosystems with a bit of open-source in their core to lure us in. Because they love open source? Yeah, no.

Soon after leaving GitPod whose technology links the two, Geoffrey Hunt last year explained their strategy and what it’s doing to our open tech world, in a great and “harrowing” article, “Visual Studio Code is designed to fracture” https://ghuntley.com/fracture/

This is why MS-GitHub is not our friend.

This is why falling for their trick, disguising MS-VSCode as a neat “free” editor, will come back and haunt and hurt us.

Vendor lock-in double-whammy. Using open source as “a financial weapon”.

If we have a grain of public spirit, if we are motivated at all by the Freedom that’s supposed to be afforded by Free-Libre Open-Source Software, we must #GiveUpGithub, we must recognise the trap, we must choose truly open #FreedomTech.
