    Regarding the price see: mastodon.social/@janvlug/11651

There are no is no monthly fee for the #Librem5 itself. You can use it with the provider of your choice.

You can take a totally optional #PureOS subscription though: puri.sm/posts/pureos-optional- Such subscription will help funding the advancement of PureOS. Which in the end will also help the #MobileLinux eco system.

  3. I realize that yesterday it was exactly four years ago that I started the experiment to use the #Librem5 #Linux #phone as my daily phone.

I have been using it since then, and the software is being improved regularly and in a very transparent way.

Read here about the beginning of this experiment: janvlug.org/blog/one-week-libr

Would you be interested in a blog with an update of the current state of the Librem 5?

  4. @me

Since 2022-05-01. I wrote a blog about this, when I started it as a experiment.

Thanks for asking. I realize now that it was yesterday exactly four years ago.

The software has been improving since then, and it is still improving. The release of the next version of #PureOS for the #Librem5 with the name #Crimson is imminent.

    I use a #Librem5 #Linux #phone. With the default #PureOS operating system.

Enjoy your #freedom, break free from #Google and #Apple.

Have a full Linux computer in your pocket that you can also use for calling.

    Questions? Ask me.

  10. Does anyone know of the general development of #navigation software for #mobile #Linux devices like the #Librem5 ?
#PureMaps somehow runs, but it is not a great experience performance wise and the development is not super active anymore. I saw a discussion once that #OrganicMaps also tries to make a mobile Linux version, but I can't find any update there either. Are there any plans for #GnomeMaps to add navigation features?

  12. RE: chaos.social/@grote/1162570026

Welp. It's been a fun one Android. Once my phone breaks, I'm done having a phone, until I get a job that pays well so I can buy myself a Linux phone.

I know dumb phones still exist and I don't mind typing with the keypads but I'd rather have no phone than have a dumb phone

When that time comes that my last phone breaks, I will probably be the only Gen Z in the whole world who has no phone.

Screenshot of #SignalDesktop I took last year on #Librem5.

Regarding browsers, the default #FirefoxESR does not need any zooming in, and neither does #GnomeWeb, #Kumo or #AngelFish. On #BraveBrowser, I zoom in 125%.

Btw, being able to use desktop apps on #LinuxMobile is generally considered one of its advantages!

  22. @privacyguides I think #LinuxMobile is the only real path forward for freedom.

Instead of hoping in #Google, it would be better in the long run if concerned users rallied behind #Linux options (mainline or #Halium-based), and there are quite a few now, existing and upcoming.

  27. @dos After getting incorrect location throughout the day (due to bad weather?), I finally tried your #aGPS script on #postmarketOS 25.06 (after installing #coreutils), and it appeared to work!

Planning to do more extensive testing in the coming few weeks. Thanks : )

Currently using #PureMaps for navigation mainly and #GnomeMaps occasionally.

  30. @ati1 @linmob Depends what the user wants from a personal device, how they use it and what their priorities are. If someone's priorities are a modern camera, running proprietary Android apps and their money is held hostage by banks requiring #Duopoly apps, they should check back later, perhaps when the Librem 5 "Fir" model is released.

On the other hand, if #FreeSoftware, #privacy, #modularity, #repairability, #ecofriendliness, #decentralisation, #digitalindependence, etc. are valued above other things, the Librem 5 and the higher-spec model, the #LibertyPhone, can absolutely work in 2025 and beyond.

I am daily driving a #Librem5 with #postmarketOS and everything important to me works: VoLTE calls and SMS (although I avoid them due to #SaltTyphoon), 4G data, Wi-Fi, camera with OK quality photos (see: #ShotOnLibrem5), GPS with #PureMaps, web browsing with #FirefoxESR, web apps (including banking) using #GNOMEWeb and #BraveBrowser, email using #Geary and #DeltaChat, audio calls on #SignalMessenger, #Matrix ( #ElementMessenger), #XMPP ( #DinoIM), #JitsiMeet, etc.

There are occasional bugs and quirks, and the device itself has limitations but nothing that I can't work around.

Not sure if I missed anything. Let me know if you have a specific use case that you absolutely require and I'll see if I can test...
