One #accessibility issue I mention frequently is web designers, presumably for aesthetic reasons, making low-contrast colour choices. It also frequently goes along with selecting a #font so small that only people with excellent vision (and no #presbyopia) can read them, even if the #contrast were higher.
Here's an example. I'm not pointing out the software in question, even though you could identify it easily, because this isn't a dunk on that project, specifically.
This is the reference #documentation for an API, a small excerpt from the navigation links that run down a column on the left side of the page. The #text is darkish #grey on a lighter grey background. The contrast is terrible, particularly ignoring the highlighted entry because that's bolded as the current selection.
If you have #cataracts or any other #vision problem, you're going to have trouble with this. But it gets worse.
That text is 7 pixels high. On my monitors, it's 3 mm high. Ridiculous. Note that if you have fine motor-control problems or use alternative input devices, these are also extremely difficult to click on.
Here's the kicker: for this site, I have Firefox set to #scale the text up to 133%. That 7 pixels / 3 mm is *after* enlarging it.
#Web folks, please try to remember that not everyone is a twenty-something able-bodied person with zero accessibility issues.

Junge Frauen bauen DIY-Mini-Computer: Repair, Freedom Tech, Feminismus, digitale Souveränität.

Why is phpMyAdmin the worst DB manager?
Well, that's easy. It's a mess of server and Ajax functionality that does not respect standard browser navigation like Back and Forward, forgetting searches etc.
Their change to AJAX fetch just plainly fucked up good app. I don't understand how 10 years later it still is the same unusable shit.
(Yes, I use adminer when available, but some hosters offer only phpMyAdmin and no remote connections)

It's been quite a while since I've used the stupid goddamn shitty useless asinine idiotic trumpy Zoom app.
IT ISN'T ANY BETTER
In fact. IT'S WORSE.
Give me a break - I can't minimize it. I can't move it to a different workspace. I can't go to a different workspace while it's open, because it shrinky-dinks and FOLLOWS me!
That, on top of NO READABLE FONT SIZE OPTIONS, makes it a prime contender for worst app I know of.

@dgoodkin wow. Thank you. I haven't seen as good an overview of a complex project, and its context, in a long time. Years.

🐰 SECUSO Wishes You a Happy Easter! 🐣
This year, the Easter Bunny paid #SECUSO a visit and left behind eggs for us to paint—the creative results of our painting activity now adorn our hallway. In addition to traditional designs, we’ve also incorporated our research into our Easter decorations.
💪 After Easter, we’ll be kicking off the summer #semester. This semester, SECUSO will be offering the Applied Computer#Science – #Cybersecurity lecture for the Bachelor’s program as well as the #Security, #Usability, Society lab course (Bachelor’s and Master’s) and will be represented in the Economy and Hashtag#Technology team project. Additionally, some of us will present their work at the #Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (#CHI) in Barcelona the week after Easter. But first, we wish everyone a Happy Easter! -

Another newcomer-friendly UX papercut enhancement idea for GNOME's "Document Scanner" (Simple Scan) app: providing the page cropping aspect ratio presets directly as a split menubutton for the cropping action in the toolbar: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/simple-scan/-/issues/553

Finally realized what has been bugging me for years with the GNOME "Document Scanner" (Simple Scan) app's cropping feature: it doesn't set the mouse cursors to indicate where and how you can interact to adjust the cropping rectangle.
I filed this issue with some hints, so that any newcomer can contribute a fix for it: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/simple-scan/-/issues/552
(BTW, there's a similar papercut in GNOME Calendar: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-calendar/-/issues/963)

Just realized one thing I like about my color #Kobo device:
The sparing use of color reminds me a lot of the way color was used in early OSes, like Macintosh System 6.Color is used for a splash, but the core interface is stark black and white for maximum contrast and readability (although with apropos use of antialiasing for font rendering when possible).
Modern desktop OSes really, really need to rediscover the wisdom of using color sparingly.

"The #userinterfaces of the late ’90s were the last ones designed by people who actually cared, by people who approached the whole process with the end user in mind, rooted in scientific data collected by simply looking at people use their ideas. They were optimised for the user as best they could, instead of being optimised for the company’s bottom line.
It’s been downhill ever since."From:
