🥳 Introducing Test Monkey
In my seemingly endless journey of yak shaving, I decided to port Tap Monkey¹ to node:test and make it into a test reporter.
https://codeberg.org/small-web/test-monkey#readme
> Displays test runner status using a static single-line spinner (hint: it’s a monkey) and only fills your screen with text on failures and with your coverage report.
>
> No dependencies.
>
> Did your tests pass? Excellent! Here, have a banana :) 🍌Note: this is for when you’re running your unit tests manually and you want a calm, quiet, and monkey-filled experience. It’s not for CI.
Enjoy!
💕
¹ A tap formatter that’s also a monkey (see https://codeberg.org/small-tech/tap-monkey).#NodeJS #testing #unitTests #nodeTest #Node24 #Node26 #test #dev #JavaScript #TestMonkey

🤖 AI Broke Your Test Suite?
Klassische Unit Tests setzen deterministisches Verhalten voraus.

Unit tests should not pay for our whole app launch ritual: persistence, analytics, network calls, first-screen setup, all the stuff that makes test feedback slow and weird.

I wrote about how to improve legacy tests in 6 steps on the company blog. Although the examples use Java, only the last step is specific to the language (or rather, the testing library).

When does quantization, context window, and weight format matter more than model size? Simon Willison's August 2026 test on a 27B Qwen shows one task succeeded on one machine—but operational success rates depend on settings that shift between launches. What acceptance tests must pass before production. https://www.implicator.ai/qwens-8b-and-27b-models-make-local-routing-practical/ #AI #MLOps #Testing

Asked for a small change and walked away. Came back and it was still going. The test harness was lying to it, so it spent thousands of iterations repairing code that was never broken. I eventually ask what if it is not the code. A model never does.

@vitest killed Jest
As per the [first graph], we can see :
* the number of downloads of Jest are stable
* the number of downloads of Vitest is increasing fastlyThe [second graph] shows the relative decline of Jest compared to Vitest

💰 Need a site that costs nothing while no one uses it ?
I made a #serverless one on #AWS following #BestPractices with a minimal approach to #testing and #deployment 🏗
🔮 Spoiler: it's practically all #MadeInAWS, even though it wasn't my first choice
In the article I describe alternatives, choices and why, investing in #savings and #performance 😄
