Bah écoutez j'utilise #gimp #Inkscape et #scribus et j'en suis très heureux.

Je n'en ai plus une utilisation aussi intensive, mais lorsque j'utilisais AI ou Topshop c'était bien 70/80 % des fonctionnalités.

Et bien on sert sort sans. c'est pas aussi facile (InDesign étant quand même hautement ergonomique sur la création), mais qui veut faire de la bicyclette sans transpirer hein ?

I've been producing a twice-yearly newsletter for the Dartmoor Tinworking Research Group since 2015. I started with Windows Publisher and continued out of reluctance to learn to use anything else (i.e. laziness!). Now support for Publisher is being withdrawn (just like that) and I need to find an alternative. I've had a go at Scribus but does anyone know of any freeware more similar to Publisher?

Concernant #INDD, c'est une toute autre affaire que #IDML... INDD est un format obfusqué, super mal foutu, et la seule personne qui à ma connaissance s'est frottée à sa rétroingénierie en est pas ressortie indemne. Selon lui c'est le pire format sur lequel il avait jamais bossé.

Une bonne pratique pour les utilisateurices de #InDesign reste d'exporter leurs fichiers en IDML... Qui peut être ouvert par #Scribus, avec un support partiel (mais meilleur que #OutDesign).

#Scribus is supposed to have a very steep learning curve. I find this interesting because really, it doesn't -- if you're used to 1980s-90s graphical production. Same logic, just more power and automation.

A little searching in the Sribus forums reveals a history of posts telling people looking for help with tables that they "aren't quite ready for production" going back to around 2012.

So it looks like Scribus tables don't work properly, they have never worked properly, no one is interested in fixing them but no one feels the need to remove broken features either, so they just fester there as a trap for new users not savvy with the table lore.

Most popular suggestions for workarounds are make your tables in LibreOffice instead and put a picture of it into your document, or telling people asking for help that tables are lazy, bad design and you should use charts or manually laid out text boxes instead.

This is not a serious attempt at DTP software, and the old farts in the forum are too rusted on to realise.

Es ist allerdings weniger intuitiv nutzbar, als Canva, dafür freuen sich Druckereien wie Bolle, wenn Du ihnen Scribus-PDFs schickst. Die laufen nämlich im Gegensatz zur viel mächtigeren Konkurrenz regelmäßig problemlos durch.

I've recently watched some of your #cmyk update videos and I can see it coming

The #Krita docs look very helpful. It at least answers my question about "double applying" a profile if you have one at the OS level already. Krita can ignore that and manage itself.

(everything below is me shouting into the wind to help me understand what it is that I want and even answer some of my own questions)

I think I'm coming at this from an #engineering system diagram pov where I want to visualize and control each subunit to understand what's happening.

We have some underlying "image data". To display that, we put it through an ICC profile conversion box. (Although in #scribus there are *four* boxes here for reasons that aren't at all clear.)

For print we have a similar thing. If you think of the printer itself as a "monitor" we have two more hidden variables for ink and paper type. I don't see any way in scribus, krita or #debian to even see those ICC conversion "boxes" let alone control what they are doing if I knew what adjustments I wanted.

Ohhhhh wait! I take a lot of that back. The argyllcms/displaycal stuff I installed to calibrate the monitor(s) has a lot of tools to visualize this and even build iccs by hand.

I’m going to spend some time getting to grips with Scribus over the next few days. There are already some differences between the Windows 7 version 1.4.8 and the current LMDE Scribus version 1.6.5.
One difference, for example, is that I can only use .png files. Let’s see what else is different.

Ya des gens qui ont tenté d'apporter l'ergonomie et la gui d'indesign dans #scribus ?
Parce que c'est super pénible tous ces petits bouts de fenêtre pas foutus de se mettre dans une seule, et des parcours absurdes pour juste définir des styles de textes à appliquer à une portion de bloc de texte, ou sélectionner une typo avec une preview.

C'est une des rares communautés qui n'a pas migré son forum vers discourse, donc pour échanger avec c'est un saignement de plus dans les yeux. Bref grosse galère.
