Just a small life update.
After losing my good phone in the robbery, I currently have to rely on my old device again, and it’s struggling badly. The battery barely lasts anymore, so I need to reduce power usage and keep things as lightweight and minimal as possible. Because of that, I’m stepping away from some platforms and rethinking which communication networks I truly want to depend on in the future.
What I will continue using and keeping are open and decentralized networks like XMPP, Matrix, SimpleX, Nostr, and the Fediverse. Those spaces feel far more independent, resilient, and aligned with the kind of digital future I want to support.
Step by step I’m rebuilding my setup, simplifying things, and focusing more on privacy-friendly and decentralized technology again. Sometimes losing a device really changes the way you think about communication, ownership, and dependence on centralized platforms.

Unannounced usage of audience response tools with questionable data privacy policies in a presentation: By the time I am done reading the privacy statement, everyone else has already happily answered the ten questions. Addressing my #USA readers I want to show how #EU legislation to #USBC can reduce waste by extending the live cycle and hence also save money.
The attached photo show newer and older devices that can still be loaded with the legacy USB-A loader. But also devices that can be supplied with my 67W PD Loader. In the bright sun of #labourday in #GermanyThis is also a way to #digitalIndependence of as even #apple had to change its loading port due to EU-legislation

Wie vor kurzem Berichtet und Angekündigt habe ich jetzt ein #tutorial im #kuketz Forum veröffentlicht, das die Einrichtung einer #android VM in #proxmox zeigt.
So lässt sich z.B. WhatsApp nutzen, optional mit Auto-Responder oder #matrix Bridge.Wer noch eine Schippe oben drauf legen möchte, kann das ganze durch einen #tor Proxy leiten, wie ich in einem anderen Beitrag beschrieben hatte.

when you use "free" websites and services you will end up paying for it one way or the other, with your data, with dependence, once you depend on something you are more vulnerable to be exploited for it
besides normal web services, even in places like #Telegram, the mini-apps are just websites that you can open right inside the app, but remote websites controlled by 3rd parties in the end, you depend on them to keep operating the service, they have access to all the data you enter and use inside their mini-app
with #ArcaneChat and other #DeltaChat clients it is a completely different story!
YOU are in full control of the data you enter and use inside the in-chat mini-apps
there is no 3rd party with access to it, all data exchange works peer-to-peer between the chat members
there is no dependence in any website or service at all! it is just a normal attachment you send in the chat
they work #serverless! you can even use them while being #offline, so they are offline-first out of the box
yet even your grandparents can use them without even realizing there is a lot of power and freedom you get under the tips of your fingers!
this shouldn't go unnoticed!

To defend our society against fascism, and win our separate-yet-connected struggles, we need **all** anti-fascist orgs and movements to maintain and build their organizing capacity.
If you're part of an organization with values, goals and methods which oppose the values, methods and goals of fascism; read on. Digital Sovereignty Collective is an international network of a few dozen orgs like yours, digital hosting co-operatives/collectives, and tech workers' co-ops; collaborating, helping and sharing knowledge to liberate our own and eachothers' orgs from the clutches of fascism-vulnerable tech.

Yesterday was the "Digital Independence Day", which I only learned of, today. Coincidentally yesterday I wrote my first blog post in years! I used to be on wordpress.com for nearly a decade, then moved my blogging to #g+ #facebook, #linkedin and co.
With the process of shutting down all my #ustech and #bigtech accounts, I felt the need of having a place to myself again, where I could share my thoughts. For now, I've decided to use #zola as a static site generator, which gets hosted to @Codeberg
Here's my successful "Hello, world!" that'll allow me to further my journey towards #digitalindependence as this static site will not only replace my old blogging software, but I plan to replace with it so much more! What a fitting coincidence, to have that post see the light of day on the Digital Independence Day :)

WhatsApp hat auf meinem degoogled Android jetzt endgültig den Dienst blockiert. Ich zum Gatten: Dann nutzen wir halt Signal. Der hält das für einen Quatsch, alle nutzen Whatsapp. Ich so: Aber wenn Whatsapp bei mir streikt, kannst du mich trotzdem nicht erreichen. Also muss Ersatz her. Signal hatten wir schon. Nach etwas hin und her hat er es sich eingerichtet.
Aber eine Diskussion. Niemand nutzt Signal, keiner kennt es. Kann dir sagen, warum. Niemand macht sich Gedanken, einen Plan B zu brauchen. Whatsapp wird gefühlt überall als Kontaktmöglichkeit angeboten.
Der Dame von der Bank ist zum ersten Mal eine E-Mail-Adresse von Proton untergekommen, nämlich meine. Was kennen sie: Google, vielleicht noch Yahoo. Sonst das in Israel einheimische Walla, und Firmenadressen.
Es ist ja eher so, dass die Leute Paranoia haben in Israel, etwas illegales zu tun oder verdächtigt zu werden, wenn sie auf Datenschutz achten und nicht permanent getrackt werden wollen. Oder wenn sie es wagen, etwas zu tun, was nicht alle tun, dass du plötzlich verdächtig bist. In Wahrheit ist das Quatsch, aber die Leute glauben das allen ernstes in Israel.
Wie kann man diesem Mindset entgegnen, ohne für bekloppt gehalten zu werden oder für oberfromm, die alles moderne verweigern - eins von beidem? Und nein, ich benutze aus Prinzip keine #GAFAM. Bevorzuge Textkommunikation über anrufe (und hasse unumgehbare Hotlines). Man kann mir immer noch SMS schreiben, wenn man keine Messengerapp installieren will - oder klassisch E-Mail. Hrmpf.

@ati1 @linmob Depends what the user wants from a personal device, how they use it and what their priorities are. If someone's priorities are a modern camera, running proprietary Android apps and their money is held hostage by banks requiring #Duopoly apps, they should check back later, perhaps when the Librem 5 "Fir" model is released.
On the other hand, if #FreeSoftware, #privacy, #modularity, #repairability, #ecofriendliness, #decentralisation, #digitalindependence, etc. are valued above other things, the Librem 5 and the higher-spec model, the #LibertyPhone, can absolutely work in 2025 and beyond.
I am daily driving a #Librem5 with #postmarketOS and everything important to me works: VoLTE calls and SMS (although I avoid them due to #SaltTyphoon), 4G data, Wi-Fi, camera with OK quality photos (see: #ShotOnLibrem5), GPS with #PureMaps, web browsing with #FirefoxESR, web apps (including banking) using #GNOMEWeb and #BraveBrowser, email using #Geary and #DeltaChat, audio calls on #SignalMessenger, #Matrix ( #ElementMessenger), #XMPP ( #DinoIM), #JitsiMeet, etc.
There are occasional bugs and quirks, and the device itself has limitations but nothing that I can't work around.
Not sure if I missed anything. Let me know if you have a specific use case that you absolutely require and I'll see if I can test...
