I'm looking for a replacement for MS Publisher. It has been my go-to application for anything that needs a detailed layout for printed materials (e.g., #academicPosters, #flyers, table tents, #businessCards). Now that #Microsoft will stop supporting it in October, I need a new idea.
What is everyone else using for desktop publishing?
#Canva is great for some projects, but the translation to printed materials has issues (like not being able to set margins). I've also tried #InDesign, but that has a steep learning curve and is overkill for what I need.
And no Word or PowerPoint. I've tried those too. This is not what they are designed for.

Anyone know how image background removal by 'ai' works?
I'm wondering if it's full-on theft-gen-ai or if it's some lesser sin? Perhaps standard machine learning?
Asking because fam member uses #Canva a lot and she uses that background-removal all the time.
(It takes me hours to do the same thing that canva does in ten seconds. Very depressing.)
Any word of such tools in floss?
(ETA, I know about the various manual methods already.)

Jesus fuck. You have to install every fucking app on your phone because ZERO websites are mobile optimized "anymore" (you've had 20+ years, fuckers - I was learning about these "new developments" when I was FIRST LEARNING HTML & CSS in ~2005.)
BUT some "applications" (looking at you, Canva! why do all the relatively useful services like Canva and Spotify have to be so capitalistic and morally base and AI-enshittified?!) aren't compatible with a phone UI. I'm trying to RESIZE the text box, not move it, you goddamn fucking stupid useless garbage app.
