  1. The #Polish winged hussars, famous for relief of Vienna, saving Europe from a Muslim takeover in the 17th century were a Polish heavy #cavalry units.
They often turned the tide of the battle.
Many a time smashing a much more numerous opponent.

Each soldier had to equip himself from his own wealth, paying 2000 gold pieces for basic kit, and up to 6000gp for a flashy kit. You could buy a building in town for that money, and to equip yourself and your retainers might have been been enough to build a bridge.

They had heavy armour (though early firearms were a thing), but their main weapon was their heavy long pike, giving them range on anything on the battlefield and a heavy war horse.
In addition to superior armaments (including rider flint pistols), they employed psychological warfare, their wings, when galloping in a charge made a furious, fierce and frightening sound and many wore exotic animal skins like leopards and lions over their armour.

A galloping charge from the #Polish Hussars was the equivalent of a modern heavy tank attack.

The Poles maintained strong cavalry tradition well into 20th century, with #Poland fielding cavalry units when Germans and Russians started WWII with an attack in Poland.

  3. I've been using #affinity and #cavalry more than #adobe recently. Not out of necessity, but it's just a nicer experience for a lot of work. And the software is faster.
First time I've been mainly out of Adobe since I switched from Quark Express in 2002
