Our short film's is a bit over 27mins long. But since most local festivals have a limit of 20mins, we had to trim it down a bit.
Wowa and I spent the past few weeks choosing what to cut and what to keep, and now we've landed exactly at 20mins flat. Not a single frame more or less.
It hurts a bit to know there are some shots I'm extremely proud of that won't be seen on the big screen. But nobody ever said it's easy to kill your darlings.

Продолжаю изучать #kdenlive учится, и заниматься цветокоррекцией. В этот раз получилось залезть на один интересный дом рядом с Волгой, даже поснимал на GoPro обкатав новый аккумулятора от enduro который по заявлениям, лучше стокового аккумулятора, но все равно нужно проверять в жару или в холод так как главная боль GoPro это холод и неадекватная работа в жару и его перегрев. Думаю моменты еще будут для проверки, а пока что лайтово. В #GoProLabs нашел еще одну интересную функцию для получения лучшего цветового охвата картинки функция $WIDE=1 в этом видео не использовал $WIDE=1, а использовал просто flat, но результат хороший, возможно стоит править еще баланс белого в некоторых местах, но результат $WIDE=1 и lut взятый с github под данную функцию отлично делают картинку.

I cannot believe that that GPU is not usable for video work. That is what GPUs are made for!
Poorly, there are a few caveats:
- there are always more DEcoders supported than ENcoders. I guess not being able to play a video (it would play but be less efficiently decoded on the CPU) is worse than being bound to #h265 instead of #av1 for recording.
- thus it makes sense that GPUs generally work flawlessly for gaming, as that is just displaying videos (or rendering content, which is kinda different, no idea why video codecs are more difficult than rendering methods)
- for every video format out there exists an encoder. If you use software rendering (on the CPU), you can use ANYTHING. Like encode to modern (and free!) AV1 using #svtav1 on any old CPU.
- if you want to encode videos on a GPU, you need drivers, but also a different encoder. On #NVIDIA you use #NVENC (NVidia ENCoder), for example nvenc_x265 for h265/HEVC videos. On #IntelArc (and afaik AMD GPUs), you use the #QSV (quick sync video) library which builds on top of #VAAPI, which is open source. So you can encode to AV1 using qsv_av1 for example.What encoders are supported depends on the GPU a lot. Intel Arc seems to have supported the free, efficient and future-proof AV1 codec the earliest, but also the older free codecs VP9 and VP8 (also used in webm), like in a GPU I recently bought used. My older NVIDIA GPU only supports H265, which is proprietary and often less efficient than AV1 (not always, video codecs are black magic).
As OBS can use your GPU for video capture (encoding), the issue is purely in software support.
I only have experience with #ffmpeg for re-encoding videos, but that is also in many video editing tools. Try if you can get them somehow.
For NVIDIA I needed the latest proprietary drivers (#NixOS makes this extremely easy, can recommend) and ffmpeg, nvenc worked out of the box.
For intel Arc I used the regular drivers included in the kernel, but after adding the QSV runtime to my "hardware.graphics.extraPackages" I needed to recompile the entire kernel. Using a #longterm kernel (currently 6.18) makes this more viable... longterm XD.

Llevo un par de meses editando con #kdenlive, y la verdad, me ha sorprendido.
Va muy fluido, no crashea, y me ha permitido aumentar mi productividad editando mis videos y cursos.
Como buen usuario de #shotcut, le he cambiado algunos shortcuts para que el cambio sea más fluido, y por el momento, ninguna queja 🙂

I am just finishing up my latest Linux tutorial video. I spent the entire day working on it.
I am getting better at editing. My biggest goal of this video is to remove the "ums" and silent pauses. I am eternally greatful for Kdenlive. The more I learn to use it, the more I enjoy it. It is very accessible. I have a lot more respect for professional video editors. You can spend many hours getting it perfect.
One thing I am trying to remember as I continue this journey is from Hank Green, who popularized the 80% rule. Basically, perfect should not be the enemy of good. It might not be perfect by an "ai's" standards, but it is 100% human made and that is what counts. With that said, I learn something every time I make a video and I believe they are getting better.

El tren de bambú de Battambang, en Camboya
Es un cutrevídeo en @fediversetv No estoy muy suelto con la edición de vídeo y tampoco tenía mucho tiempo para dedicarle.
La historia detrás es que hubo un momento en que los trenes dejaron de circular en #Camboya. La gente del lugar ideó un sistema para reutilizar las vías. Construyeron vagones con plataformas de bambú y los utilizaron para transporte local. Con el tiempo, se dieron cuenta de que era una alternativa turística y los comenzaron a emplear para transportar personas. Que al final fue la opción que prevaleció.
Es lo que solemos llamar una #Turistada. Y tenía mis dudas de si ir o no a verlo. Pero hay que reconocer que es una turistada divertida. 😀 Y he pensado que igual os apetecería conocerla. 🤔
