I think it was Doctorow who said, that if you know what operating system you use, it is a terrible OS. Meaning that they are supposed to operate seamlessly.

I fully subscribe to this, and I think we are somewhat there. I have three linux machines, running #Manjaro, #cachyos and #tuxedoos, and I often forget which is which. Because it feels the same, untill I need to install something via terminal and use the wrong command. So, I get a couple seconds of confusion like once or twice a month. But otherwise, apart from knowing well that this is #Linux, I am happy not to know not to care. Good times.

Honestly, I've probably left this too long:
I'm saying goodbye to #Windows and my curated 10+ year install that has travelled from spinning rust to ssd to nvme to bigger nvme, and has lived 3 different pc configurations, of which one was a notebook.
Yes I am a little nostalgic. I've been told a Windows install gets messy and needs a fresh start and I should be at at least my fourth install. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Today, I switch to #Manjaro after 3 years of experiments with my old notebook (yes the one that had my original Windows install)

Currently: backing up my files.
Next: I'll test some compatibility and app profile imports, and see if I can actually get everything I need.

Es ist durchaus möglich, den fast immer viel zu kleinen Schriften und Symbolen in QT-Apps Benimm beizubringen. Gerade wieder mal gemacht. KeepassXC ist zum Beispiel so ein Kandidat dafür. ;-)

Für Menschen mit Augenproblemen ist so ein kleiner schmutziger Hack eine wahre Wohltat.

Manjaro Linux looks like it's ...

I've had quite an interesting time over the last few days with #ManjaroLinux. It has a beautifully put together KDE plasma desktop, and it's really slick. However, it's definitely not for the beginner. For me, the experience has been like going back in time a few years, but with the advantage of having #Claude and #Gemini to help me.

Thanks to AI (and a lot of prior knowledge, an essential when using AI in my opinion), I was able to get a number of things working that didn't just work out of the box, including:
- an Epson printer/scanner
- a Brother laser printer
- a Bluetooth mouse
- KVM virt-manager

The mouse was the most interesting. I'd read that my MediaTek chipset isn't well supported, and through the UI it detected the mouse but refused to successfully connect. However, using the command line bluez utility all is good.

One final thing to work out is why it's not going to sleep. It'll sleep when triggered manually, but not when left idle. I suspect the web browser might be at fault, but that's tomorrow's challenge.

All in all, despite my reservations about #Linux distros with systemd, #Manjaro has greatly exceeded my expectations. Isn't #FOSS great?

Ya no suelo ver muchas series porque odio cuando las cancelan y no les dan un final digno, cosa que pasa mucho, pero también me pueden encontrar en Serializd.

Mi lista de lectura está dominada por la #NovelaNegra (sobre todo nórdica) pero también me gusta leer novelas de terror, de #RomanceQueer, o cualquier cosa que me pique la curiosidad.

Soy una especie de #geek que disfruta mucho del #FOSS, mi sistema operativo principal ha sido #LinuxMint desde hace 5 años, y tengo una laptop vieja en la que cambio de distros, ahora con #Manjaro y #Debian. Mi sistema de apoyo es #macOS.

My reading list is predominantly #CrimeFiction (mainly Nordic) but I also like reading horror, #QueerRomance, and anything that piques my curiosity.

I'm some kind of a #geek and enjoy #FOSS, my main OS has been #LinuxMint for 5 years now, and I have an old laptop for distrohopping, currently using #Manjaro and #Debian. My secondary OS is #macOS.

I also happen to be a #language nerd, I speak #Swedish, #Catalan, and #French. Will mainly post in #English and #Spanish, though.

Manjaro ist ja recht aktuell, aber bei Software wie #OBS Studio und #Kdenlive kommen mir Updates trotzdem manchmal zu spät. Mit dem Wechsel auf #Testing hat das ein Ende. Jetzt hab ich auch das #Manjaro auf dem Gaming-PC auf den Testing-Branch umgestellt.

Until today I haven't used #xfce DE before, as I was attracted by KDE, and I also use (in a very loose term) Cinnamon, as #linuxmint is my #dailydriver .
But as my installation of #fedora42 went wrong somehow and I don't have much time to investigate, I've decided to try some #LightweightLinux on my laptop.
#manjaro with XFCE, so far, it's not bad, a bit different from Mint, sure. But I hope the usefulness of the old machine will increase.

I have been #swearing 🤬 at my Manjaro v24 powered laptop, for forcing me to use the finger pointing thing. Not a keypad. #Touchpad or #trackpad. Or rubbish as it should be called. Prefer the #mouse which was working then suddenly #hiccuped.

I will try again shortly to see if it has #learned any #sense. Or better still if I have. #Manjaro and #GNU-Debian (using that at the moment) are both using #Gnome desktop environment. I always tended towards xfce due to speed and minimum #resources. Never really liked KDE too may options/fiddling about. #Puppy #Linux which I am more familiar with, used some very minimal windowing systems. ​:blobcatstrong:​

I click it, and #AppStream-compatible #Pamac GUI opens up on my #Manjaro. My consensus is that many #download pages could make opening #package details on #Linux click-away with the help of such #link, hence faster #setup.

Yes we are unable to see any shortcuts.

Over time this is going to get easier because ppl who see the value in ppl seeing the value, will volunteer their efforts to help ppl see the value.

FOSS is **still** failing on #lookAndFeel (#LaF, #sexiness). It seems intentional, with much money flowing from #dotcons and JEpstein types. While #Manjaro seems sexy, it has unacceptable/proprietary issues.

One of our goals is simple. To make FOSS #lookAndFeel sexy.
