Um relato dos meus sentimentos misturados a respeito do #Manjaro e minha simultânea incompetência e competência:

Nas últimas semanas andei "bootando de um snapshot" no meu micro do dia a dia, e hoje finalmente quebrou tudo e bootava mais. Aí, tome de bootar de um pendrive, e acessar anotações que eu tenho pra fazer o chroot... acho tudo muito difícil pq tenho que decriptar o hd, e montar partições diversas, não manjo exatamente o que estou fazendo, sigo a receita anotada, muitos passos.
Em seguida, reinstalei kernels com pamac -S linuxXX e mhwd-kernel, reinstalar o grub, e usei o mkinitcpio -P pra recriar as "imagens" dos kernels pro boot. Não sei o que resolveu exatamente o problema (tinha tentado esse mkinitcpio -P faz algumas semanas, sem ser bootando do pendrive, e não tinha funcionado)
De um lado sou grato por ter conseguido fazer as coisas funcionarem, grato pelo esforço de muitas pessoas voluntárias fazendo o Manjaro ser teoricamente "mais fácil" pra algumas pessoas, por outro lado acho tudo muito difícil e não consigo imaginar outras pessoas do meu convívio fazendo essas coisas, nem eu consigo entender o que estou fazendo!
Será que não teria como ser mais fácil? Será que um dia vou achar fácil?

Honestly, I've probably left this too long:
I'm saying goodbye to #Windows and my curated 10+ year install that has travelled from spinning rust to ssd to nvme to bigger nvme, and has lived 3 different pc configurations, of which one was a notebook.
Yes I am a little nostalgic. I've been told a Windows install gets messy and needs a fresh start and I should be at at least my fourth install. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yey, well done, me(?)... I guess

Today, I switch to #Manjaro after 3 years of experiments with my old notebook (yes the one that had my original Windows install)

Currently: backing up my files.
Next: I'll test some compatibility and app profile imports, and see if I can actually get everything I need.

Ja, der Desktop meines alten Acer-Schätzchens sieht fast genau aus wie die Tage. Aber unter de Haube ist alles neu. Man beachte das Menü-Logo. :-)

Hier haben wir #Manjaro #XFCE bei Arbeit. #SparkyLinux war nett, aber das Bessere ist der Feind des Guten. Und ich habe nun mal eine Schwäche für #Arch. Schon des mit #yay, #pacseek und #pamac leicht zugänglichen Softwareangebots wegen.

#Fooyin hier zu installieren, war eine Sache von Sekunden, unter #Sparky (#Debian) leider wie berichtet ein Graus. Mag ein spezieller Fall gewesen sein, aber sei's drum.

Egal. Nun ist wieder alles so wie ich es gern habe. Nur noch schnell den #Server per #NFS ins Boot holen und ein paar hilfreiche Links setzen.

Dann ist auch der 16 Jahre alte #Travelmate #7740G wieder ein vollwertiges Mitglied meiner Rechnerfamilie. 🤓

I've had quite an interesting time over the last few days with #ManjaroLinux. It has a beautifully put together KDE plasma desktop, and it's really slick. However, it's definitely not for the beginner. For me, the experience has been like going back in time a few years, but with the advantage of having #Claude and #Gemini to help me.

Thanks to AI (and a lot of prior knowledge, an essential when using AI in my opinion), I was able to get a number of things working that didn't just work out of the box, including:
- an Epson printer/scanner
- a Brother laser printer
- a Bluetooth mouse
- KVM virt-manager

The mouse was the most interesting. I'd read that my MediaTek chipset isn't well supported, and through the UI it detected the mouse but refused to successfully connect. However, using the command line bluez utility all is good.

One final thing to work out is why it's not going to sleep. It'll sleep when triggered manually, but not when left idle. I suspect the web browser might be at fault, but that's tomorrow's challenge.

All in all, despite my reservations about #Linux distros with systemd, #Manjaro has greatly exceeded my expectations. Isn't #FOSS great?

Ya no suelo ver muchas series porque odio cuando las cancelan y no les dan un final digno, cosa que pasa mucho, pero también me pueden encontrar en Serializd.

Mi lista de lectura está dominada por la #NovelaNegra (sobre todo nórdica) pero también me gusta leer novelas de terror, de #RomanceQueer, o cualquier cosa que me pique la curiosidad.

Manjaro ist ja recht aktuell, aber bei Software wie #OBS Studio und #Kdenlive kommen mir Updates trotzdem manchmal zu spät. Mit dem Wechsel auf #Testing hat das ein Ende. Jetzt hab ich auch das #Manjaro auf dem Gaming-PC auf den Testing-Branch umgestellt.
