Honestly, I've probably left this too long:
I'm saying goodbye to #Windows and my curated 10+ year install that has travelled from spinning rust to ssd to nvme to bigger nvme, and has lived 3 different pc configurations, of which one was a notebook.
Yes I am a little nostalgic. I've been told a Windows install gets messy and needs a fresh start and I should be at at least my fourth install. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yey, well done, me(?)... I guessToday, I switch to #Manjaro after 3 years of experiments with my old notebook (yes the one that had my original Windows install)
Currently: backing up my files.
Next: I'll test some compatibility and app profile imports, and see if I can actually get everything I need. -
I never thought this would pay off, but here we are.
My date of certificate expiry is now automation actually triggered.

Zum heutigen #DiDay möchte ich auch einen Beitrag leisten. Linux как гитарная рабочая станция
В далёком 2001 году я впервые увидел Linux и понял, что это моё. Шли годы, менялись дистрибутивы и мои требования к ним, но вот недавно я решил закрыть гештальт и научиться играть на электрогитаре. Покопавшись в интернете, наткнулся на кучу обзоров гитарных процессоров, комбиков и программ-эмуляций. Как это часто бывает, крутые коммерческие продукты есть под Windows и Mac, а вот про Linux как-то снова забыли. В принципе, это нормально — иметь две системы под разные нужды. Но иногда очень не хочется перезагружаться, и я решил попробовать настроить свой Manjaro под работу со звуком. Мои первые эксперименты с JACK во времена 4 рубля за мегабайт закончились неудачей, а вот сейчас и знаний, и терпения хватило. Моя система: Manjaro Linux, KDE, Wayland. Аудиоинтерфейс Motu M2.

If you're looking for an immediate move away from Manjaro Linux, or were about to install a fresh copy of Linux and now don't know what to do, I would suggest EndeavourOS as an alternative.
EndeavourOS will work on any hardware that Arch Linux supports. This is my recommendation for those wanting an easy Arch Linux installation without needing to configure everything — the same way Manjaro Linux was easy.
Alternatively, there is also CachyOS, but its hardware support is more limited (for example, you'll need a newer CPU). If you have newer hardware, it is optimized for your system; if not, it may not work, and you should consider EndeavourOS instead, as it supports a wider range of hardware.
Lastly, if you're looking to try something outside of Arch-based distros and are feeling a little adventurous, there are Fedora and Mageia Linux, which use RPM packages. They are both independent distributions and not based on each other. I recommend trying the newer Fedora 44 Beta or Mageia 10, which is currently a rolling release in development.

I regret to say, Manjaro Linux, maybe no more.
@[email protected] did a great job explaining the current drama (see YouTube URL, below). But the summery is there is a bad faith individual who claims to hold 50% (half) the rights and is not playing well with others (not working with the developers or the community).
About 1 hour after this video was made public, that individual has changed the Manjaro website to be more corporate and has remove the URL to the community forums. That seems to be their public, but passive reply to the thread (see URL).
I would encourage the development for fork Manjaro since clearly someone is on a power trip, and it does not seem like they're looking to work with people in good faith.

I've had quite an interesting time over the last few days with #ManjaroLinux. It has a beautifully put together KDE plasma desktop, and it's really slick. However, it's definitely not for the beginner. For me, the experience has been like going back in time a few years, but with the advantage of having #Claude and #Gemini to help me.
Thanks to AI (and a lot of prior knowledge, an essential when using AI in my opinion), I was able to get a number of things working that didn't just work out of the box, including:
- an Epson printer/scanner
- a Brother laser printer
- a Bluetooth mouse
- KVM virt-manager
The mouse was the most interesting. I'd read that my MediaTek chipset isn't well supported, and through the UI it detected the mouse but refused to successfully connect. However, using the command line bluez utility all is good.
One final thing to work out is why it's not going to sleep. It'll sleep when triggered manually, but not when left idle. I suspect the web browser might be at fault, but that's tomorrow's challenge.
All in all, despite my reservations about #Linux distros with systemd, #Manjaro has greatly exceeded my expectations. Isn't #FOSS great? -

La dernière mise à jour de Manjaro (et probablement toutes les dérivées d'Arch) fait planter Antidote 10.
La coupable est la libxml2.
Il suffit d'installer la libxml2-legacy (l'ancienne donc) à côté de la dernière version et tout rentre dans l'ordre.
Rappelons que la V10 d'Antidote est la dernière version sous Linux.
Autant tout faire pour la faire durer et éviter le désormais abonnement ! -

- بعد تعديل الملف، قم بتحديث GRUB لتطبيق التغييرات:

3. إعادة التشغيل:
- أعد تشغيل النظام، وسيتذكر GRUB الآن آخر نظام تشغيل قمت بتشغيله.

- إذا كنت تستخدم systemd-boot بدلاً من GRUB، يمكنك تعديل إعداداته عبر ملف

I have been #swearing 🤬 at my Manjaro v24 powered laptop, for forcing me to use the finger pointing thing. Not a keypad. #Touchpad or #trackpad. Or rubbish as it should be called. Prefer the #mouse which was working then suddenly #hiccuped.
I will try again shortly to see if it has #learned any #sense. Or better still if I have. #Manjaro and #GNU-Debian (using that at the moment) are both using #Gnome desktop environment. I always tended towards xfce due to speed and minimum #resources. Never really liked KDE too may options/fiddling about. #Puppy #Linux which I am more familiar with, used some very minimal windowing systems. :blobcatstrong:
I am quite happy to work in black and white if it gets me more speed. Every second counts. That is why I use the fastest software, simple enough for Donald Trump or stupider. Because I am as 'thick' as two-twenty slices of bread. Do Americans use the term 'thick'? Dunno. :ablobcatpeekbreadfast:

Another #linux another complication. I tried #MocaccinoOS the rebranded #Gentoo #Sabayon. Installed well, but couldn't do updates or install anything. It's still new, so no great surprise. Then tried #manjaro Fastest install ever, but first OS to decide a refresh rate of 60 is too much for my monitor, wouldn't update because of a missing encryption key and will only boot up once after installation, second boot just freezes. Guess it's back to #linuxmint for now

Die letzten Jahre war meine Lieblingsdistro immer #Sabayon, da gibt es jedoch im Moment einige Probleme und die Devs scheinen gerade ziemlich abzuspringen. Daher brauche ich etwas neues.
