🚀 Holo Core: Valve și Collabora aduc nativ Arch Linux pe arhitectura ARM64!
Pentru a alimenta viitorul dispozitiv Steam Frame (bazat pe un procesor Snapdragon 8), Collabora și Valve au dezvoltat Holo Core — o inițiativă masivă de a porta nativ Arch Linux pe arhitectura AArch64 (ARM64).
🛠️ Provocarea tehnică:
Limbajele precum Rust și bibliotecile de bază au necesitat "reconstruirea istoriei". Echipa a trebuit să creeze o infrastructură automată de Integration Continuă (CI) capabilă să parcurgă tot arborele istoric de dependențe Arch și să recompileze pachetele pas cu pas.💡 Ce aduce acest proiect ecosistemului Open Source:
• 🏗️ Infrastructură CI nouă: Un sistem capabil să reconstruiască de la zero orice snapshot al distribuției.
• 🎁 Cadou pentru comunitate: Întreaga infrastructură CI va fi donată proiectului Arch Linux pentru a ajuta la oficializarea portului AArch64.
• 🧪 Versiune de test disponibilă: Proiectul include un snapshot din noiembrie 2025, pachete precompilate și o imagine de container Docker pentru developeri.

I've ended up with #Bazzite #Gnome, modern #AMD and it works great. 2GB VRAM allocated on #iGPU with latest BIOS update (set to auto). Until I bring in more DDR4 and a dGPU SFF, this will do. O is extremely happy, game controller from #Stadia has a new life, a second hand monitor for 20€ and wired network. It boots into #SteamOS, desktop mode Gnome is available for homework. #Windows is so last decade. Current gen will game on #Linux. Work on Linux. And #Microsoft will try to enforce Windows for corporate, sweeten the #Azure licenses to have IT migrate to self-hosted Linux servers.

So far, none of my problems I have with the Steam Deck have been solved by using a cleanly installed Arch instead of SteamOS, meaning they are all either coming from KDE, Linux drivers etc which have been unchanged by Valve, or they are hardware issues (looking at you, official dock).
So a) SteamOS is fine and replacing it is only for nerds, and
b) fuck you Arch forum people, I still don't believe your "surely it's just your distro" mantra. -

Какое-то время использую Steam Deck как рабочую машину.
В целом, за исключением того, что на иммутабельном дистрибутиве чтобы собрать рабочее окружение приходится использовать некоторые костыли, особо и не хочется жаловаться - всё отлично. Особенно если подключать его через док к большому монитору.
