Nearly everyday, sometimes multiple times a day, I get an email that someone has downloaded my Vital synth presets, which amazes me. Never thought these would take off like they have!

I want to make another Vital pack. I've got a few ideas. Would anyone like to contribute a vote for what to create firstly? Or do you have any other suggestions?

It's actually pretty smart: You can set two settings, one for when tracking live and one when bouncing offline.

My latest musical foray has been learning how to use music trackers, like #SunVox and #FurnaceTracker, both #foss (as well as #DefleMask legacy). I've had successful results doing some transcription. Next step is composing my own stuff. :) It's wild hearing the things people can create with trackers. There is a whole virtuosity to these instruments.

TIL: IRQ based scheduling in PipeWire is exactly what it says: scheduling based on IRQ. That is the IRQ your audio interface or onboard audio is using. So it has nothing to do with controlling that IRQ.

When using IRQ scheduling with PipeWire you're disabling dynamic buffer switches (timer-based scheduling)¹. Enabling the "Pro audio" profile for your interface or device, if available, should enable IRQ scheduling².

I started using Fedora on my work PC and got involved with the #LinuxAudio community. At home I switched to SUSE Linux and a while later I moved to Ubuntu.

Unfortunately there were very little job opportunities at the UvA at that time regarding Linux. So I moved on, gradually picking up more Linux knowledge and skills.

And now its 2026 and the dream I had about 25 years ago has come true. It's just so cool and amazing that it worked out this way. And there is still so much to learn.

I hereby bring a correction: As I was writing about TDR Limiter, it struck me that I could just disable the modules I didn't need (comp and clipping)!

So, it turns out TDR Limiter G6 is back in the template and I save 1 ms not using the stock limiter in Bitwig. This brings the total plugin latency to 1.6 ms across all the plugins, which is totally doable.

They come from MHB Green (Drumbus comp/saturation), Avalon VT (Mixbus comp+EQ) and TDR Limiter G6.

Rest adds no latency.

On the instrument-side, the new template is setup to use the Bitwig Sampler for close to everything, after my manual “convert the Samples From Mars collection to Bitwig-presets”-project.

This is so nice! My main problem here is, that I have setup the sampler with stock devices, so for each sampler I automatically load 5 devices. Looking back, that was unnecessary and not “low latency”-ready. But I’m not changing close to 1700 presets again 😂

It controls all the low end and bring controlled umf while doing so. Since I have never really cracked the kick-sound code, this was a god send.

Shy Audio’s mastering EQ has taken over the mix-bus together with Kazrogs Avalon comp.
