@woltiv @davidgerard I switched the ol' desktop from 2010 and "TV laptop" from 2015 from Win10 to #Q4OS last year, and noticed that Lord of the Rings Online (a Windows game) runs *better* on those than it did in Windows.

For normal use (Vivaldi, VLC, torrenting, file and media server, etc.) things are far better than they were in Windows...

Finalmente, instalei o #trisquel #linux no meu laptop 32 bits de 2008!

Uso ainda esse laptop todo dia, mas o #q4os, antigo sistema, não atualizava mais.

Gostaria de instalar o #puppylinux, mas este sempre tem uma frescurinha ruim de resolver para dummies como eu. Mas há de ser.

Amigos, chegou a hora: não manjo NADA de código, mas preciso instalar um novo sistema #Linux no meu velho laptop de 32 bits.

Algum sistema 1) livre e 2) fácil de instalar, de verdade?

I am looking for a way to do offline backups for Linux filesystems on x64/arm64/amd64 laptops to an encrypted (LUKS) disk.
I tried systemrescue. It works using fsarchiver but I have to manually mount the external disk per several cryptsetup commands.
I have written down the commands for several Linux distros I use but would like to boot from an USB stick on which either the commands are stored in a file or a sort-of automount works out-of-the-box.
I see several choices:
Customize system-rescue. I would have to do it for every new version
or
Use a distro on an USB stick which supports automount of encrypted disks.
Q4OS seems to be a good candidate. I don't know whether both versions of the live images support this automounting.
Any suggestions ?

This long weekend’s #shenanigans with tech outcomes:

1) Nuked the install on the #OrangePiRV2. Seems like it did mot like my poor attempt in switching it over from #Ubuntu to #Debian via sources.list

2) Installed #BredOS on the Opi RV2- it’s okay; super limited repos and graphical issues.

3) On the #orangepizero2w I have switched the DE over to #Trinity from #XFCE. It is now running smoother.

4) #Ebox is updated and running #Q4OS. Was able to get #Steam installed for some light gaming. #Retrodeck was alos installed for some #RetroGaming

#GhostBSD was absolutely not fun with #Gershwin; I am also not that interested with #BSD to bother fighting the OS.

Tried #BesGNUlinux but it has issues with #Flatpak. Has an installer for flatpak built in but its super buggy and the apps do not appear in the system menus or in the finder app. Super lame.

Now in the process of testing out #Q4OS

They were not removed since they will be updated in the next #OS release next month. It would be great if the #Rustlang based #LeftWM was added to #AlpineLinux, but not had luck with requests. #Q4OS 5.4 23.11 was removed. If there's interest for 5.6 to be tested, a new issue can be submitted https://github.com/crftbt/EveryByteCounts.org/issues. Does Q4OS not have a public #code #repo?

Welp, that was a thing. It took 45 minutes to get #LXLE live running, then another 30 to do a full install just to crash and not work.

My expectations were low, but this fell even lower than that.

I then attempted to install LXLE on the bare metal. After boot I just kept getting a black screen.

I booted up #Q4OS with #TrinityDE. It’s fine; it’s just not as exciting as getting Trinity running on my #mangopi #sbc

The same system ran WinXP and Win 7 inside of VMs, allowing use of Adobe software and other Windows apps.
At the time I had been using Linux full-time at my business for about 4-5 years.
Soon I would take a Linux netbook with me for working abroad (running Ubuntu's netbook distro), along with a Nokia n810 as media station. The years 2009-2012 were, in my work, the second big wave of Linux on the Desktop. It was extremely fun and I'm still trying to recapture some of the enjoyment of those days, which faded a bit with the rise of the cloud.

Nueva vida para esta notebook. Hp Compaq nx6320. Intel T2300 centrino duo (del año 2006) x32 bits. 1.5gb de ram DDR2. Disco hdd 80gb (se reemplazo por ssd wd green 240gb). Limpieza total.
Sistema operativo: se le instalo Q4OS (GNU/Linux) base debian 32 bits. Cómo se ve en las imágenes, 230mb de ram consume al inicio, llegando a 1gb con navegador abierto con 2 pestañas, libreoffice, vlc, entre otras apps.
Increíble que aún funcione bien, y con el ssd más un Linux optimizado para equipos amtiguos enciende más rápido que muchas notebooks modernas, nueva vida para ella!!!

My mom gave me an old Dell Inspiron 1720 and I’ve been trying to install #linux. This thing is from like 2007 & basically crushes me while in my lap.
