  7. #PopOS #Cosmic had been going okayish for the last couple months but something recently regressed pretty bad and is making me crazy again. It's hard-locking my laptop multiple times a day, and my Bluetooth mouse doesn't work anymore despite it finding and connecting to it. Really feels like alpha software again.

Just installed the latest updates and will continue doing so until it stabilizes. Maybe someday I'll learn to not update it if it's not broke 🙄

    I'd try:
    - #LinuxMint
    - #PopOS

Based on Ubuntu (or Debian), but no snaps. Both work great with flatpak *if you want that*.

I've had fairly good luck running Steam on PopOS, but I also used AMD GPUs. YMMV.

  30. Is anyone already running @pop_os_official 24.04 with the new #COSMIC environment instead of Gnome? My laptop is my daily driver, I'm currently running #PopOS 22.04 on it. I told myself I would wait this summer and COSMIC Epoch 2 release to have some stability, or maybe when they rebase to 26.04, but I don't know when that will be and 22.04 is quite an old base, maybe outdated packages...
    More specifically:
    - Are Steam and Proton running well?
    - Is WireGuard working?
    - How is battery life?

  31. Carl Richell, founder of System76 and Linux version Pop!_OS, is proposing an amendment to Colorado's age verification bill to exempt open source software.
The amendment would exclude open source operating systems and apps, code repositories like GitHub and GitLab, and containers like Docker and Podman.
Richell is scheduled to appear before Colorado lawmakers today, April 23, and asks for backup in the form of stories about kids who have built or made things thanks to unhindered use of open source software.

  32. Upgraded my PC at the office to the new #PopOS with the #COSMIC desktop. It did solve some video driver issues I was having, but at the same time it feels like using an alpha product at best. The new desktop surely needs some refinement before I can recommend it to others.

  33. As a respite from all the awful news, can I just point out how enormously happy I am with my fresh install of #fedora 43 with #Gnome? It's beautiful, very usable, and I've succeeded in getting it working *very nicely* with both Citrix and Zoom (even if Citrix did take a bit of effort).

I previously used #popos which was great for ages (22.04) but 24.04 just had too many problems to be usable for me. Being back to something really usable is a tremendous relief.

  34. CW: linux laptop suspend

I have a Lemur Pro from System76. A week or so ago I finally updated to Pop 24.04, including the new COSMIC environment (which is fine. still missing some features, and i’m getting used to the differences, but overall seems smooth and stable).

Since then, my laptop doesn’t seem to suspend when closing the lid. Opening the lid, i have to unlock the screen, but the battery use is still high. And at no point does the power light do its slow blink.

I looked at systemctl status systemd-suspend.service, and the only thing that stuck out was a failure of the bluetooth daemon to suspend. I default to bluetooth being disabled. Enabling it before closing the lid seemed to fix that.

But the power light remains on and the battery continues to drain much faster than expected.

Any ideas for next steps, fediverse?

  35. Ended up replacing #PopOS with #Fedora (KDE Plasma) on the gaming PC today.

Could not be happier! Dual screen, mouse focus, fullscreen... Everything I struggled with gaming on Pop!_OS works out of the box.

Not sure if its because of Fedora or KDE Plasma.

Wasn't to much hazzel setting up proprietary Nvidia drivers either.

Całe życie ja i większość ludzi miało do czynienia z Windowsem - na nim Defender albo inne Avasty, AVG etc. dawały poczucie bezpieczeństwa.

  45. Okay, so after using Cosmic full-time for like 3 months via Pop_OS!

    • This is a beta product that should not have been released as an LTS
    • This has great potential, 6-24months from now.
    • This does not have remotely the community engagement necessary for it's ecosystem to function as intended (like Gnome or KDE does)

  46. So with 26.04 around the corner, I been prepping to use besides . Nothing wrong with , but the new 50 release hits all my buttons. 😅

  48. I almost decided to upgrade my 22.04 to #PopOS 24.04...was so close to clicking the button...
But then I learned the #cosmicDe
    does not support drawing tablets...
Which is essentially the only thing I use my laptop for nowadays. Oops.
I hope it gets implemented soon, it is kind of a deal breaker, and I don't feel like having to reinstall and rice gnome as the first thing after an upgrade
