Reworked Bazaar's search overview provider into a separate little service that does not need the full main application, and so it only takes ~20 MB of ram to work.
The service also auto exits after a few seconds, as restarting it is pretty quick & cheap. (except when it needs to live for auto-updates of course.)

Added a "Similar apps" section to Bazaar today, making it easier to discover alternative or complementary apps.
It works by doing some fancy pre-calculated matrix math on the apps metadata to surface somewhat decent results without having to track any actual user data.

Why is Bazaar so much more performant than GNOME Software? Is PackageKit really that much of a strain performance-wise compared to just using the Flathub API? Or are there other reasons?

RE: https://hachyderm.io/@kolunmi/116800872490013768
I have been lobbying for this feature in #bazaar - in #bluefin we will use this as a develolper portalish area.
"Set this shit up like WSL" or k8s native, all out of the box with some lightweight hooks and links.
@siosm and I discuss this a bunch. The goal here is, app stores are so ... linux, "let's list packages". Why are people talking about packages we solved this lol. We can move on now.
"Give me the S-tier local podman setup" isn't an app. "I work at a k8s shop but I'm just a front end person give me the guardrails" isn't an app.
Experiences aren't apps - we will offer curated choices based on what people actually use -> "I am coming from windows and use WSL" will just get you that experience, chonky #ubuntu container and everything.
Ship it it's userspace.

If you could not find an excuse to use Bazaar instead of straight going with Flatpak in the command line, I'll just give one that is now good enough for me.
I wanted to install a given app, and just because it already showed up in the Gnome search list, I just clicked, and that brought me to Bazaar. When I clicked "Install" it gave me a pretty interesting warning to let me know that the application is high risk, and it was very specific about which security concerns there are.
I tried to install the same app using the Flatpak command line and I did NOT get the same warning.
Sold. Bazaar all the way now.

#bazaar (from https://usebazaar.org/) did a lot for the discoverability of apps on the #flatpak repos. The experience has really gotten quite good, with a quality that is on-par with the main platform stores.

we need to talk about these negative reviews in #gnome #software. they're absolutely useless?
I wonder if that's why #flathub and #bazaar don't show them?
even with a bad bug report I'm happy to help track down the problem. this however leaves me with nothing but a bad feeling.
perhaps we can ask to file a report when users select a 1 or 2 star review. the link is right there in the metainfo file...

The Merchant of Four Seasons, Pierre Bonnard
I wish I had this in higher resolution...
I think this level of impressionism is maybe as far as you can go and still create something based in reality. I really like this for as long as I can appreciate it as a whole, the color and the energy, it seems like people milling around buying things in the late afternoon.
But, when I try to examine it, I get really frustrated at not being able to understand any details. I got to point where I thought it was garbage for a minute, but I came back to liking it when I looked away and looked back. 🤔

Deus me livre.
