It sucks when an app could not be made available on #Flathub/as #Flatpak due to wtv incompatibility reasons that Flatpaks somehow still cannot/haven't address, but it sucks more when an app used to work as a Flatpak, but for wtv reason no longer does. In this case, #RaspberryPi Imager.

I'm sorry but #AppImage simply isn't and will never be an option. I know some devs prefer that, but AppImage as a format just seems too hacky and clunky, needing manual management of it and such. Might as well just install from your distro's package manager, though that isn't ideal for various other reasons. All in all, I just wish for Flatpaks to be able to cater to 'every app under the sun'.

Hm, so there is not a clear, straightforward way to build AppImage in a user-friendly style.

What a strange way to define format, but not provide any tools... If Timothy Berners-Lee defined a format, but didn't build a server/browser, nobody would use his early web.

Linux people have lot to learn.

PS: Yes, bunch of people have built their AppImage builders that don't work (tried 3 (!) of them).

FYI there's a big trouble these days with synchronization between the FlatHub version (3.6.xx) and the new 3.7.xx version on smartphone.

It seems that the #Flathub version is not the official one and you choose only #AppImage installation (weird choice indeed).

I hope the people who are responsible for the Flathub version are soon to be advised!

I just noticed that the Signal messaging app (@signalapp, https://signal.org) finally has an official AppImage binary to support all Linux distros 👍

I installed it. It seems to work fine, but I didn't sync the QR Code with my phone yet.

I had been using the Signal RPM binary provided by openSUSE, but availability of this ended after Fedora 43.

Dear people who distribute AppImage builds of their software:

Have you ever considered that since an AppImage is a squash filesystem, that archiving only this file doubles the amount of hard drive space required for download and extraction, even if only temporarily? If a README or other documentation needs to be included, that is one thing, but please stop archiving only the AppImage itself.

Dopo i grattacapi su Arch Linux, risolti con un aggiornamento, ora su Void non riesco ad uscirne.
