    Looking at alternative light desktop environments as even trusty #Xfce seems headed down the slop abyss. Trinity Desktop (based on #KDE 3) is also using LLM code. Was reminded of Equinox, but looks like it hasn't been updated since 2014 :(

    🖥️ GNOME lucrează la salvarea și restaurarea sesiunilor, dar funcția nu va ajunge în GNOME 51!

    Echipa de dezvoltare GNOME face progrese importante în crearea unui sistem nativ de Session Save & Restore (salvarea și restaurarea automată a aplicațiilor și ferestrelor deschise după repornire), însă implementarea completă mai are nevoie de timp.

    ✨ Detalii despre nouă funcționalitate GNOME:

    🔄 Ce va face Session Restore:
    • Va permite sistemului să rețină aplicațiile deschise, poziția ferestrelor și starea acestora înainte de oprire sau repornire, redeschizându-le automat la următoarea autentificare.

    🛠️ De ce durează mai mult:
    • Arhitectura modernă bazată pe Wayland și izolarea aplicațiilor prin Flatpak (sandboxing) necesită noi protocoale de securitate și API-uri speciale (portals) pentru ca aplicațiile să își poată salva starea în siguranță fără a compromite confidențialitatea.

    ⏳ Lansarea este amânată:
    • Deși lucrările sunt avansate, funcționalitatea nu este suficient de matură pentru a fi inclusă în versiunea GNOME 51, echipa preferând să prioritizeze stabilitatea și funcționarea impecabilă în locul unei lansări grăbite.

    Un pas mare înainte pentru mediul de desktop GNOME, care va aduce o experiență de lucru mult mai fluidă pe Linux! 🚀

    Noul update pentru mediul de desktop creat în Rust de către System76 a fost lansat, punând accent pe controlul proceselor, monitorizarea hardware-ului și optimizarea experienței grafice pe Wayland.

    ✨ Ce este nou în COSMIC Desktop 1.4:

    📊 Aplicația System Monitor actualizată:
    • Opțiuni direct din interfață pentru oprirea normală (Quit) sau forțată (Force Quit) a aplicațiilor care nu mai răspund.
    • Grafice interschimbabile pentru CPU și GPU, cu vizualizări îmbunătățite.
    • Monitorizarea în timp real a frecvenței GPU-ului.

    🎮 Compositor și experiență de joc mai bune:
    • Reconstruit pentru a rezolva probleme de afișare: jocurile care aveau dificultăți la trecerea în modul fullscreen funcționează acum corect.
    • Eliminat efectul de pâlpâire (flickering) la navigarea prin meniurile aplicațiilor tiled.

    • Corectată grosimea inconstantă a bordurilor de fereastră la scalări non-întregi.

    🛠️ Corecții pe întregul sistem:
    • Stabilitate crescută în COSMIC Panel și COSMIC Settings (rezolvată o problemă unde schimbarea volumului pentru surse afecta dispozitivele de ieșire).
    • Portalul de desktop rulează acum ca serviciu de sistem nativ, având jurnalizare mai clară prin journald.

    Ich habe jetzt seit ca. einem halben Jahr #KDE im Einsatz. Insgesamt finde ich es echt nett, viel besser als früher, aber… bis auf die Widgets (die schon nett sind), sehe ich bisher echt keinen Gewinn gegenüber #Xfce.

    Ich komme von jahrelanger Xfce-Nutzung und sooo viel anders ist KDE jetzt irgendwie nicht.

    Daher: Hat jemand noch Tipps, was man ausprobieren sollte? Habt ihr "Selling points" für KDE? Vielleicht übersehe ich ja einfach was. 🙂

    I've been following the development of a new #DesktopEnvironment, and I gotta say…

    Why is it.that as soon as someone makes something that's different, people swoop in and say "You have to add this feature so it works like #Gnome / #Plasma /Whateverthefuck"?

    Like… let's take the Minimize button. Useful in Windows, but far from the only way to deal with setting stuff aside. #Niri handles it with Workspaces and Columns. Gnome (by default) handles it with Overview and Workspaces plus limited snapping. I like that about Gnome and Niri (with #Noctalia or #Dank added in, Niri's my favorite).

    DEs work without minimize buttons. If someone's designing a #DE without it, and you need it, maybe you're not the target audience. Maybe it's designed for Owlbears.

    And that's just one example. I dunno. It's obviously not a big deal and everyone's entitled to their opinion. It's just weird to me to insist that a DE needs something it was obviously designed to work without.

    I recently switched to #kdeplasma. I'm impressed! I even managed to get #Wayland working with my #Nvidia card (with the help of an #LLM). I stopped using KDE over 20 years ago, but it was my main #Linux desktop for years. It's the complete opposite of #Gnome or light DEs like #XFCE. I'm really enjoying it. It's refreshing to have a #desktopenvironment that doesn't treat me like I'm too stupid to deal with options. Anyway, KDE is really good!
