Me:

* Spend like half an hour setting up my keyboard shortcuts on #MangoWC and #Noctalia on my Odyssey Linux install on my laptop

* Realize that I've configured it to work exactly like my #Niri setup on my Desktop

* Think about how every time I install #Plasma desktop, I immediately tweak the settings so that it works as close to #Gnome default as possible

* Wonder why I bother trying new things.

I might be a magpiebear instead of an owlbear.

Finally a good usable guide on Freebsd 15.1 on my Thinkpad Carbon X1.
I presume it is usable also for other laptops.

Running latest 15.1, with A/C wifi and MangoWC / suspend & resume
The guide uses KDE but with Wayland it is easy to install Mango for example.
Just do not use Ly as login manager (I do not use X11)
Do not forget to install / enable Seatd

TIL: there’s a thing named #DankLinux, which is “a complete desktop shell for #niri, #Hyprland, #MangoWC, #Sway, #labwc, #Scroll, #MiracleWM, and other #Wayland compositors”. This might be a quick and easy way to get all the little details working out of the box, and to get a consistent look’n’feel as a bonus.

Install went smoothly with some help from a howto
Wifi was installed using the Ethernet connection. Needed to download firmware for the iwm driver..

And the move to a desktop on seatd/MangoWC took me some research and some friendly help on Mastodon (thanks @justine )

Wifi speed on the X1 carbon (older config) is remarkly good. Good enough for my purpose and erlated to the older adapter I presume.

Now the customizing starts.

Sweet. #VoidLinux installed to new partition. Dual boot #Arch and #Void is working good. Got WiFi working and void update done. Default font was way too small for my old eyes. Couldn't seem to find any that were larger in the default console fonts folder though. Copied over the HUGE ter-132b from my Arch partition and I can read again.

Next up getting a little more familiar with void and maybe checking out #MangoWC

My Slackware Tilers setup runs Sway, with the nwg-shell. And Mangowc with Noctalia. And Niri with Dank. Hyprland is available, but not installed. And Slackware Current. All from one iso and repository by @jloc0 . Smart thing: package sets are linked by symbolic links. Type "slackpkg install dank" and you'll see all related packages before they're pulled in. Way less 'dependency hell'. And very much up to date 😄 Thanks Jay!

There have been a lot of package updates and new packages added this cycle all helping flesh AerynOS out into something more usable for our current testers.

Long time friend of the project, Fabio has rejoined the fold and has hit the ground running with a number of fixes and code refactors to moss and boulder with more in the pipeline.

Seit längerem auf meinem Arbeitsrechner von #mangowc auf #niri umgestellt.
scratchpad fehlt nun leider, aber dafür kann ich die unterschiedlichen SAP-Systeme (Produktiv, Test) wieder anhand der Fensterrahmenfarbe erkennen. Die Möglichkeit verschiedene Tilings, je nach Tag, einzustellen nutzte ich kaum.
Und die Übersichten sind bei niri schon Klasse, sowohl die Workspace-Übersicht als auch die Fensterübersicht!
Hier kann man sehr schön justieren, ob man nur die Fenster des Monitors, des Workspaces oder alle Fenster sehen möchte.

Updated the codeberg.org/thesaigoneer/freebsd-mangowc repo. Still a lot to do, but at least the most relevant things are there, including the mango configs itself 😆 Also the sw selection has been amended, including yazi and foot now.

Just noticed there's a Slackware Cosmic iso available ( previously it was the packages, add the repo etc). Also saw the patch for Mangowc on FreeBSD being committed. Or I'll compile it myself 🤔 Then it can be added to my Slackware Tilers box. Leaving the NUC for that Cosmic thing. Coffee ☕ first.

W czasie moich peregrynacji/kombinacji z różnymi window managerami, natknąłem się na #mangowc, całkiem przyjemny kompozytor korzystający z Wayland-a. Trochę podobny do dwm/dwl, ale prostszy w konfiguracji(zwykły plik tekstowy toml), do tego ma zestaw predefiniowanych layout-ów(czego mi brakowało w sway i hyprland) i łatwo go oskryptować via IPC.
